By the way, a lot of times cannons can outrange the towers, but mortars cannot. Therefore, try doing a tiered siege attack with cannons breaking towers and crumbling walls first, mortars breaking the foot infantry defenders second, and a tertiary foot assault.

That's a great point! The City Towers can still hit your Mortars so by taking them out first you get even more breathing room. Cheers bud!

Something else that I've discovered when playing Cathayan campaigns was that collision attacks are extra dangerous to wall mounted units. The example that demonstrated this for me were the disc riders charging into my Celestial Crossbowmen, causing dozens of units to fall off of the wall and killing them instantly. Don't know how many units could make this applicable or viable, but interesting to say the least.

Spiteful shot, the spell from lore of the deep, is also great. It heavily increases gun accuracy. This can make it easier to take out towers, or even snipe single targets with your cannons

Great tip! Lore of the Deep has some really great spells and that is super handy for helping keep the barrage up.

When i have mortars i prefer to send in a durable unit (lord, single entity, or infantry at a choke point) to draw enemy infantry in. That way they blob and mortar efficiency can go way up. There is definitely an element of judgement calls involved (i wouldnt yeet a regular vampire lord when there is a dread saurian for example), but overall i find this very worthwhile as mortars can and will run out of ammo far sooner than i like. This can also be comboed with a wall breach and gunners. On another note, i find that archers work pretty well in sieges as long as they are placed with their outer range barely touching the walls. This forces more arced shots and avoids a lot of the physical cover the wall provides.

That’s a great point! A tough hero to get the enemy to blob up would make the mortars so much more efficient! And yeah I find if I get Archers shooting from a side angle they can do pretty well against units on the walls, still tricky at times

Loved this video! Thank you Malleus! The only downside of this army composition I see is its effectiveness in land battles, since it focuses so heavily on the sieges.

Glad you enjoyed it bro and thank you for watching! I do agree with you there, I was running an army like this in a Coast campaign and it did get a little troublesome in field battles, probably late game swapping the cannons out for Necrofex’s would add some serious durability though

@@MalleusGaming57 about fifteen artillery, and the rest filled with cavalry as a emergency skirmishing force. But by its nature it usually starts small and gets split often.

That can be a problem, however they can be a bit disordered when moving out through the gates or wall gaps so you should have time to move some troops to intercept them, plus when they're bunched up they're prime targets for your cannons and mortars. When the Kroxigors attacked my Hand Cannoneers my actual cannons started shooting at them and did some good damage

Thanks so much bro! I haven’t played Pharoah at all but with the updates I’m definitely more intrigued and the Give Ground mechanic seems like it has some cool potential. As of right now I’ll have to play around with the game and get some experience with it but we’ll see how things shake out
