The game was meant for SP in the first place anyway and still shines in that regard. Going by the argument you've just made they could just give it renewed graphics or something, re-release it and call it a day. Not worth it IMO.

The only one that stuck with me was the loading screen one, because it seemed to fit a sort of poignant mood with the quotes. The rest... Fuck if I know, I remember the campaign map ambience from Rome 1 better.

I remember tracks from Napoleon: Total War. The Napoleonic Code, Battle of Austerlitz, Battle of Arcole... not as many as I might in Rome, but the music was still good. I think it's more just a matter of being stylistically different. Both are good composers, but Jeff van Dyke orients more towards the bombastic combat themes and goes heavy duty on them. It helps them both stand out on their own and be more memorable. Beddow, I find, writes really good pieces but a number of them tend to be more subdued and ambient, even in combat, or compliment the battle more than stand on its own or even overwrite it, using a more fluid tempo and only really coming in hard at select points. Neither of these are good or bad approaches, they simply do the same thing differently.

Point taken, you remember a song, but I still think Richard Beddow's OSTs lag far behind Jeff van Dyck's. Europa Universalis's music I'd wager is so much more fitting to the time period. Fitting, but still very memorable and exciting. Listen to something like Stonemasons, or Introductions (from Republican music pack), or Piano Concerto no. 1000, from EU4. They suit the time period but they also stand on their own. In fact, I'd argue that Introductions borders on beauty. And the buildup in Stonemasons is incredible! What gets you more prepared to go to war than a two minute long buildup like that?? Andreas Waldetoft dares to use percussion from time to time, and dares to take fast tempos too. And when he doesn't, what's left is able to stand on its own because he knows it has to. I really don't think Richard Beddow's music stands tall by itself. It requires the game and the sound of canons and horsemen and muskets along with the aesthetic of the gameplay to hold it up. That's what Beddow lacks. It's like watching a movie that is almost good. It's frustrating because you're rooting for it to become something more, to be what it is clearly trying to be, only to set itself back into mediocrity.

You are glad that a game a lot of people were waiting for floped? What kind of person are you? Rome 2 didn't really flop....it was a disaster at launch, but a lot of the problems are fixed (there are more though).....just a bunch of haters left to constantly complain, even for the stuff that is already fixed (yeah there are bunch of those). Shogun 2 is still the best TW IMO, but in no way can I be happy that a TW game floped.

Erduk You know the worst thing is that I feel like we've been scammed. If you look around at all the mainstream gaming reviews. They ALL gave Rome 2 like a 10/10 perfect review (I don't think they even played the game or if they did they've clearly been bribed to say nice things) And they still try and sell their DLC for outrageous prices. They took out some of the main features (such as the Greek states which are probably after Rome the most popular faction) and made you pay like £9 for them. Just about everyone pre ordered this game, they spent so much mass advertising it to look amazing and even people that didn't pre order are still buying it because all the reviews tell them too.

A la Toyotomi Hideyoshi's invasion. Man that would have been awesome. Playing as the Chinese/Koreans would have been cool as well. Their armies would have been weaker/less experienced but they would have superior naval power.

Yeah. But a samurai, let alone an army of them, likely wouldn't beat an equal or even smaller roman legion, primarily because a group of romans would gang up on a samurai. But then again, the katanas are folded a million times. Can't beat that. The heart is in the blade.

The samurai is a type of horse archer, without the horse he would be easily fucked against a legionary...

A Roman soldier would probably kill a Samurai in a 1v1 scenario. But who's to say that the Japanese will fight "fair"? Assuming that the Romans invade Japanese territory, the fight will begin not on the fields of battle, but in the homes and camps of the Roman Legions. The Japanese will probably sabotage the Roman's food, water and might even assassinate generals, severely crippling their performance on the actual battle field.

Kaansky samurai would loose , since their tactics are more or less like the persians : horse archers. and on food they have no chance, 1v1 yes because a roman in itself is no good fighter, they train as unit and this is their strengh...though maybe he would win in 1v1 because he has better gear...samurais used if they didnt used bows spears and clubs, the katana was only decoration because it was utterly useless, in japan steel was very rare and of bad quality making the katana an ineffective weapon thatswhy also the curve not for aerodynamics or some bullshit, but to save iron because it was expensive as shit. the katana is mentioned and featured so often ebcause it looks pretty and no other reason, in reality it was crap. they used spears,bows and clubs with iron spikes instead which is why i dislike shogun 2..... its historical accuracy is absurd even for a total war game. it represents the time very very wrong more wrong when they do in any over tw game
