🔥 TotalAV vs Bitdefender: Malware protection 🔥

Both antivirus providers have excellent capabilities - and we don’t have to look far for proof. On AV-comparatives independent testing, Bitdefender scored a total of 99.98% online protection rate with nine false positives. TotalAV, with the same level of protection, rang just three false alarms. Though, that’s not much of a difference - both got the highest rating of Advanced+.
To get a bit more of a clear answer, I did my own testing - planted 10 malicious files into one of my devices and ran a full system scan. Bitdefender scored a perfect 10/10, though I had to wait for almost an hour - the full scan took a whopping 46 minutes. TotalAV finished in half the time, but it only caught 7 of the files I planted, so while they may have won the race, they lost the battle. Security points go to Bitdefender.

Although most of the features come only with the pricier plans, it’s nice that they both have built-in VPNs, password managers and ransomware protection. I also like TotalAV's Web Shield extension, it’s a free-Chrome ad-on that scans for malicious websites. However, my Bitdefender review revealed a whole mountain of features in comparison to TotalAV - parental controls, anti-spam and even webcam protection. Keep in mind though, you won’t get a real taste of extra features with the Bitdefender free plan, only the baseline protection.
Now, you might be confused, hold up, is Bitdefender free? They had a free antivirus package, then they didn’t, now they have it again, what’s happening? Well, yes, it’s back and it’s still one of the best free antivirus providers on the market. Though, the TotalAV free plan is also something I can whole-heartedly recommend - for the basic stuff, at least. If you want a more feature-packed solution, you’re gonna need to spend some cash.

⚙️Bitdefender vs TotalAV: Device Compatability ⚙️

I’ve set the providers up on a few different devices to check which is easier to use and which is more compatible with different operating systems.
I have to say that Bitdefender’s iOS app is a bit lackluster - it offers protection against fraudulent websites, a VPN with a cap of 200 MB a day, and a personal data leak check - that’s it. The Android version is miles better, with way more features and overall a neat and simple design. And although the installation processes are a bit… lengthy, both Windows and macOS applications work well, with all promised features available.
As for the other competitor - it takes a bit less time to install TotalAV, login process is quick and the desktop and mac apps are nice and uncluttered. Once again, the iPhone version is very.. meh, but at least, through my TotalAV review, I found it has slightly more capabilities on the iOS counterpart than Bitdefender - and their VPN has no data cap.
Overall, both best antivirus providers are equally good in this area, with similar drawbacks as well, so it’s just important to choose which device will be your main.

As for this TotalAV vs Bitdefender comparison, my conclusion is simple - Bitdefender has excellent security features and TotalAV offers a great essential antivirus package - so both won’t let down security enthusiasts. But Bitdefender remains my personal choice for an antivirus - it performed a bit better on my tests and I often use all the extra features.
