VIDEO INFORMATION
It’s the spooooookkkyyy season, so what’s better than an 80’s slasher comedy? Well..haha. How about you smash it together with Back to the Future TOTALLY KILLER is just that. So in this video we’re going to break down all of the 80’s time traveling shenanigans, the ending, some subtle killer reveals, and of course our reaction and review
I’m JBuck, Welcome to JBuck Studios. Thank you so much for stopping by, please click that Like button and Subscribe as it really helps out the channel, and supports victims of the Sweet Sixteen Killer worldwide. Now let’s get into Totally Killer
So Totally Killer is if you threw Scream, Mean Girls, Back To The Future, and a few other 80’s gems into a blender together to form this wacky 80’s slasher, featuring Kiernan Shipka as Jamie. An angsty Gen Z highschooler, who of course doesn’t have a great relationship with her mother. You’ve seen this troupe time and time again. But it’s Halloween night, so Jamie’s mom, Pam, is extra paranoid because 35 years ago in 1987, three of her friends fell victim to the infamous 80’s masked killer, The Sweet Sixteen Killer. With their signature mask being a cross of Max Headroom, Johnny Bravo, with a pinch of George Micheal, all formed to look like Patrick Wilson… LOOK! I… I couldn’t get over this, the jaw line and all.
On top of this, their signature calling card is the fact they stabbed each of the victims 16 times. Talk about the WORST episode of MTV’s My Super Sweet 16. Even though this masked killer only struck that night in 1987, they have since become infamous in North Vernon, with townies sporting the same mask every Halloween, and the 1987 incident even sparked a true crime podcast, because why not.
However, like 2am Taco Bell, the past always comes back to haunt you, and the Sweet Sixteen Killer strikes again, attacking Jamie’s mom on Halloween night. Which I’m not going to lie, she is hella prepared like channeling some Laurie Strode vibes, but unfortunately joins her three friends as another victim. Jamie and the townsfolk are distraught, because the Sweet Sixteen Killer has been gone for decades, so why now.
A random abandoned amusement park, science fair exposition scene shows that Jamie’s friend, Amelia, is building a time machine.

None of the time travel stuff makes sense. Her going back in time would mean she changes the past instantly. The future wouldn't see photos of her and then still be able to send someone back in time.

It was pretty obvious that it was Doug. In the original past he was left out of the party and had to kill his first victim in tha garage. The moment Jamie let him in I knew he was the one along with the pink mist easter egg. At first I thought the main clue was him knowing martial arts. He established pretty early in the movie that adult Doug knew how to fight so I thought it was a major hint. But then the Chris reveal came along and screw things up. It made sense that he got the new memory of seeing Angela at the fair so he knew where to find them. But why kill Pam? Why risk attacking him when he surely knew she was an expert in martial arts and a freak with safety.
@beingbeckeroni
@beingbeckeroni 7 ай бұрын
I didn’t think it was super obvious Doug was the killer. On my rewatch I clocked in the present day when he as principal and Sheriff Kara take Jamie aside to talk to her, he says, “She [Pam] was always so nice to me…” which was the clue that she was never a target of THE Sweet 16 Killer. I thought it was a little deus ex machina that we got what was pretty much a monologue from Marisa about how they tortured Fat Trish and caused her to drive drunk home and thus her crash. I didn’t notice that connection with the rock that Pam gave Jamie for protection was the one Jamie mentioned to past Pam and gave her, that Jamie was the “psychic” who gave Pam the rock to begin with… that was a nice touch imo… but the deus ex machina monologue was my only problem with this movie. I prefer the “show vs tell” like when Doug says he took karate at the mall (and I’m guessing makes a show of “struggling” to get over the fence at the party to throw them off the scent?) and I get Chris being the second killer because Jamie talks to past Lauren and says she has a “two killer theory, like in Scream” that was a hint to Chris picking up the killer baton… and the mail gun was literally Chekhov’s nail gun being shown in the first act and going off in the third. I think it was a 7.5/10, they lost the points from the heavy handed monologue explaining Doug’s connection to Fat Trish and therefore his motive.

Jamie called Pam “mom” TWICE, and she overhead the time travel conversation at multiple occasions. I really wish that she at least remembered everything her daughter did for her. It would have made their bond so much more meaningful. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I loved totally killer and I agree about the mandela effect as well as the fish eye lens. Another positive note is they didn't spend too much time on reminding you it's the 80s, which was shocking to me. My negative was the over emphasis of bjs. There were way too many. The one that was in the trailer was all the movie "needed". There were more paradoxes than just the crystal but I'm glad you caught that and mentioned it. The jacket was another. I'm pretty sure there were a couple more but I'd have to re-watch to remember. Oh and I've seen final girls and I'm not sure why people keep comparing the two movies. They are about as similar as big bang is to Friends. Even less similar.

Then she disappears into thin air at night and after some 34 years she suddenly comes back and no one can remember her from their past lives? Well not even her own mother can remember her? As she was the last person to see her and now she is her daughter with different name. But somehow that black scientist girl can remember her. This makes no sense at all.

I didn't think of that. I was too busy mentally screaming over Chris magically becoming a killer at the end and the fact he was the one attacking Pam. Like they were in touch a lot so how did he not know that she was self defense master? Why didn't he pick another girl to murder? Then I'm guessing he knocks out that girl and takes her time machine goes back in time and suddenly kills the other girl ... my head.. it hurts...

For a moment I had the thought that a great twist to the whole thing would have been going with the plot of "that's how it happened in the first place" with the killer actually being brought back with Jamie. It goes like this: Beginning of the movie happens the same. But when Jamie goes back in time, the killer also came with her. The killer in 2023 was someone trying to be a copycat of the original killer. When they go back in time, they realize they can watch the original killings, but when they get to the party they don't see the killer. Then they realize they were the killer all along. So they decide to follow Jamie and make sure her time machine gets fixed they can tag along again. And no matter what Jamie does, she can't stop or change what happened with the killer. After the killer gets all the girls, he leaves the note in her locker because he thought it would be fun to torture her for 30 years and knew he would kill her in the future. Then when he tries to get back to the future with Jamie is when the final battle happens and all is revealed. But Jaime is able to kill him and go back in time early enough to save her mother. Yes it's still convoluted, you would have to explain away bits like she can't change the past because she didn't technically exist in the 80s but she can affect her own time. And maybe when she saves her mom the other friends we're saved too. Idk. But this is kinda how I thought it was going to play out. It's still a bit convoluted but what time travel movie isn't? But it would definitely be a different take on the genre and story and possibly made more sense. I was disappointed in the plot twist as I this one I had in my head was so much better.

I think if you watched again, you may not be so harsh. It blended comedy and slasher pretty well, given that’s not something easy to accomplish. By the way, the camera cut away on at least one of those murders where 16 would be the stab count. I do agree that the movie would’ve benefited from more suspenseful killer scenes, but I enjoyed this and give it an 8/10, and I hope to see it become a trilogy.

I thought it was a good time. I think it was more comedy than slasher, the balance wasn’t really there. So even with the reveal of Doug, it felt kind of humorous and underwhelming, (which I think they may have planned for, hence the second killer) the entire killer reveal seemed pretty underwhelming honestly. If they had played more into the murder mystery instead of the time travelling element it may have played better. There’s a Time Machine. We get it. If we accept the premise that you went back in time, just accept that we assume you know how it works. This film really mirrors the feelings I had on the film “Talk to me”, they had a really fun concept, and misfired slightly on the execution. But that scene with Randall Park and the bag of DNA was priceless hahah.

Everyone is happy at the end, except the reporter that was killed live on air and the trama to his son, that would not have happened if she did not time travel, but as long as it works out for her

I honestly loved it for what it was. I would give 7. Reason I didn't have to think about anything. It was not intense and I laughed. Also was not gory.

I think that's a bit harsh. It's a good movie. It's not going to win any awards, but it was fun. At least 6.5. And way better than scary stories. I like that they used a time machine rather than magic to get back too. The time travel was explained well while not trying too hard. I like they didn't do the whole killer comes back, but it's actually a different guy that decided to kill as well. You got bogged down in editing techniques and forgot to just enjoy the movie.

I'd give it an 8/10. My only critic is that only jaime/Collette knew who the second killer was, so there was no way for her friends mom to keep an eye out on the second killer.

Final Girls is WAY better than this. My problem with it was that for a horror/comedy, there really wasn't anything that funny about it. And the mask (Johnny Bravo anyone ???) was more annoying than scary, also kinda reminding me of the P.C. Principal from South Park. I'd actually give it a 6, just for Kiernan Shipca's performance alone, even if she does seem to, pretty much be, sleepwalking through the part.

Huge hole 2023 Pam Killed By Chris then he travels back in time and gets killed Jamie Comes back and Pam is still alive in 2023. How? You can only argue the Mandela effect and changes to Pam's previous life but Pam would have to kill Chris some time before that but that would rewrite the timeline anyways. You can argue she is now in Spaghetti as it's referenced in The Flash so things never will be the same. Or this loop and killing the killer or preventing him before Pam died Gabe Jamie no reason to go back in the first place and created a paradox that repeats I'm loop.

I thought this was a plot hole also but my family told me at the end, when they are going through the book, it says Chris became a monk after witnessing his father get killed on TV. So he never wants to kill Pam in the future. But my problem is Jamie came back before the time she traveled back in time, so just like in back to the future part 1, there should be two of them running around when she returns. Jamie and Colette. They messed that up there.
