This song not only looks old, it _is_ old. It's actually from 1988. I was still in school back then. Die Toten Hosen are actually one of the most successful German bands of that time (and even up to today). They are from Düsseldorf, and very huge local patriots, supporting the local football team (they even became their trikot sponsor for a season when the club could not find anyone else). Their former drummer lived in my current hometown (which is close to Düsseldorf). He passed away 8 years ago. Campino, the singer, has indeed a unique way of singing. It went so heavily on his vocal chords, however, that he had to pause and learn to sing from scratch several years ago. The "Hosen" have always been a band for partying, but at the same time, coming from punk rock, they always had something to say in their lyrics. Their latest larger hit is, I think, from 2012, and it is more of a party song. It's so non-controversial, that every men's choir, every marching band, every Schützenverein in our region covered it. Next to a lot of very different artists. It's not a bad song, but it's also not very typical for them, I think. As for other songs... My brother was a huge fan, so I involuntarily knew most songs by heart because he would listen to them so often, but that was 35 years ago. Most songs from the Album "Ein kleines bisschen Horrorschau" were rather catchy, with witty and sometimes a bit cynical lyrics. I think the only other video of that time is "1000 gute Gründe" (1000 good reasons), which is a pretty accurate reckoning with Western Germany of that time. "Mehr" and "Grau ist die Farbe" are also very good. Ah, I guess there is a ton to watch, if you want to. 🙂

Most of the songs on this album were adapted for a musical, a stage adaptation of the Stanley Cubrik film "Clockwork Orange". "Alex" refers to Alexander DeLarge, played by Malcolm McDowell in the film. He is the leader of a youth gang, is caught by the police and subjected to a newly developed aversion therapy and conditioned to the effect that he can no longer endure physical and sexual violence. After his rehabilitation, however, his former victims still have scores to settle with him. Well worth watching the movie and then listening to the whole album.

Just wanted to add that Feuerschwanz is about to publish an album with older original songs, refurbished with English lyrics. Latest feat: "Highlander" and "unholy grail". I liked both of them so far.

I`s a little bit funny but this song, or at least the video, I don`t remember exactly, was not allowed to be played back then in Germany. Too violent, too controversial, when it was just a perfect description of how manmy young people felt at the time! Die Toten Hosen where never the the perfect band musicially but they always knew what was going on in the society and especially the youth and hit a spot only a few bands did, at least for me.
