I clicked on this particular interview only to hear how Jean-Michel sounded when being interviewed. I remain ambivalent as to what my opinion of him is. I realize he was not a good fit for Toto, but I don’t let that stop me from enjoying the songs he recorded with them in 90.

He was better on his own songs but Animal and Can You Hear What Im Saying? is good.

That was the record label's idea of putting Jean- Michel as the lead singer, I don't think the rest of the members liked him. He didn't fit in.

Luke talked about him during rehearsals of The Past To Present tour and got him relegated to backing vocals near the end. Byron described himself as a cross between George Michael and Michael Jackson. Not very rock n roll at all

Toto is not Toto without Jean -michel

Excuse me, @@estherlorrainnebremner166? Did they not make seven albums before him and seven after? No, I say that what Steve Lukather said is best: it isn’t Toto without himself, David Paich and at least one Porcaro brother.

The show was recorded on the 9th October 1990. Toto only did a few songs

I've read Steve's biography - he absolutely hated Jean Michel.

It's okay, the fans hate him more than Luke does. Hahaha

It was imposed on him by Sony....in reality he never connected with the band.

They should’ve made it work with that singer…incredible vocals!

@@peevee605 how so? The few live videos I’ve seen of him were pretty darn good vocal performances.

@@tomulator Byron did George Michael’s and Michael Jackson’s shit over Toto’s music and had a horrible stage appearance with the glitter glove of MJ. The crowds didn’t welcome that shit at all. After 1 or 2 gigs, he was made to be a backing singer and got fired after the first part of the tour. He was the wrong fit for the band. They tried a curve ball and it didn’t fit.

Jean Michel Byron Du Plessis has amazing vocals, only less things he did was doing Michael Jackson stuff live on stage back in the 90s. The performance was pretty good back then. Its Just a shame that he does that, bummer we are not gonna hear from Jean Michel Byron much again. Steve Lucather didnt had his year either in 2004 but he was thinking more positive about Jean michel Byron.

Byron did well on his own songs in TOTO. I didn't like his voice on the Bobby Kimball songs. Plus, overall, Bryon sounded too much like George Michael (RIP) .

I really loved the songs Toto made with Jean-Michel. It's too bad he didn't last. I would've loved to see what else they could've made together.

@jordiruiz4323 Жыл бұрын
A sad and pathetic cheap imitation of Michael Jackson, the record company did Toto no good by imposing this "singer" on them.
@@andriealinsangao613 Bobby Kimball was set to comeback but their record label talked them into hiring Jean Michel Byron.
@Shred_The_Weapon Жыл бұрын
That is the general assessment, that Columbia records obligated Toto to put Jean-Michel Byron at the front when they weren’t interested in just bringing in another vocalist. For the middle part of the 90s, Steve and David did all the singing themselves.

@nicolafreda6694 Byron sounded very much like George Michael, especially on the song "OUT OF LOVE." His voice didn't fit TOTOs style either. The band tried get Kimball back in the band in 1989 and Kimball was still in his prime but the record executives forced them to take the diva. Look how that turned out ?
