Күн бұрын

For the first time as a duo, Justin and Jamey sit down for a special episode on tough love -from friendship to envy and hard-to-swallow advice- nothing is off limits. They delve into the heart of masculinity, and personal growth as they explore vulnerability as an untapped strength among men, share personal anecdotes of growth and self-awareness, and confront the often overlooked necessity of self-care amidst the call of service to others.
Justin shares his challenges with self-acceptance and his desire for approval. Meanwhile, Jamey is challenged to spend more time in silence and find true joy in the “nothingness” of life. Tune in for a masterclass in the art of friendship, introspection, and emotional courage.
Timecodes:
00:00 - Episode Begins
03:19 - Justin offers Jamey some “tough love”

Quotes:
“Recently, I've been starting to experience some of what you experienced and some of the way you live your life. And suddenly, recently, joy is becoming more of my default. And I know that would be impossible without having you as my best friend.” - Justin Baldoni
“Friendship is in the nothingness.” - Jamey Heath
“I whisper into the ears of my kids, I tell them there's nothing that they could ever do to make me not love them. That they are enough just as they are.” - Justin Baldoni
“I'm on a constant journey to remember my enoughness. That's why I wrote the book and that's why I said in the book that I have not arrived.” - Justin Baldoni
“You do something really special, which is speak to the human heart. Certainly spoke to mine.” - Jamey Heath

2 years ago i joined you on this healing journey, i was a 28 year old dealing with severe depression, anger, and a deep unhealed sadness. I became numb and didn't cry for years. I can now look back at the shell of a man that i was for more than a decade and say that person is no more. I am safe to be vulnerable and open and share my feelings and opinions on things without being silenced. I cry weekly and remain open to whatever comes my way, vulnerability truly is freeing. Liz, Jamey, Justin and the countless guests have truly made a lasting impact. Im proud of you all 🖤

@@WeAreManEnough what will you do when you face deliberate discrimination against men by the feminists in human resources? when you get prostate cancer, then learn that feminists in Congress made sure that there is far more funding for breast cancer than prostate cancer? When you are falsely accused of rape or sexual assault? When feminist lawyers destroy you in divorce court? I think you need to take these and other issues affecting men in to account.

I can't express how grateful I am for you guys and for this dialogue. I'm a man in his 30s who had such a similar childhood experience to Justin's, I really resonate with everything he shared here. I've been trying (and usually failing) to encourage similar levels of openness and emotional support among my guy friends and it can be so incredibly difficult to create situations where even close friends are willing to open up. It's truly a tragedy how deeply men have been shamed from having conversations like this with each other. It feels extra alienating and easy to doubt myself when I have this dynamic of trying to encourage these emotionally safe spaces among men but it fails to be received. You all on this podcast have been an emotional safe-haven for me pretty much since episode 1. Thank you so much.

I had the exact same experience, growing up gay in texas in the 90s, no one was out, i was the first in my highschool, and life was hard, really hard, but i survived as most of us do, and it has taken me until this month, my 40th birthday to finally reach a point in my healing and trauma discovery to be able to look at my entire life with a positive point of view, and find forgiveness for those that wronged me during my early years. anyways. if u ever meed a pal, i can always use more. take care

Thank you so much for this one and it WAS ONE OF THE BEST FOR ME on man enough. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

i stumbled into a short excerpt on facebook from this discussion and had to hear it all, i subscribed on facebook but i needed to see your faces as you spoke, i watched here and subscribed and have a million things I want to say. First of all, you know that feeling of thankful relief that sets in when you are reminded that their is goodness in the world, their is happyness, and people that care about something beyond profit, beyond selfish pursuits, and its worth continuing to fight. I had this feeling the first time I watched brene brown on tedx houston give her famously infamous the power of vulnerability talk, which changed my life, and i cant help but wonder how much that one tedtalk influenced you guys today, as i type this its hilarious you are talking about vulnerability. Yup, broke me down with that whisper into your kids ears. Anyways, this is a thank you, i love you both with what i have seen in 20 minutes. The impact you are having on lives is nothing but positive and we need more people like you, your example is inspiring. If anyone on the show happens to see this, I would like to send an email to the show and suggest a topic. Lastly, Justin your childhood reminds me of my own, and i dont know if anyone has ever offered this information to you, but it sounds like the life of most gay guys i know that grew up in the late 90s for highschool, during dont ask dont tell. the way you describe how safe you felt, or how you became a chameleon for safety, it was uncanny. If I dont hear from anyone, i wish each and every one of you a wonderful holiday season and future good will. you have brightened my day/week withj such a beautiful display of what it really means to be human.

Man I can relate so much to justin, my father transplanted me to alaska as a kid and i become a sponge trying to absorb whatever i could that would make people like me. It made me become acutely aware of how much space i take up, both physically and emotionally. Pile that on top of an abusive parental figure in those formative years makes for an anxiety ridden depressed 37 year old boy still trying to find himself through the fog of other peoples experiences. Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty. It makes me a more complete person and helps me become a better father.

God, I'm never commenting youtube videos (to be fair I rarely watch any as well), but this...I have barely finished this episode and when i tell you i RUSHED to the comment section, I really mean it. I just have to tell you -- but first let me apologize for any mistakes, english is not my first language -- that this conversation that you had here and this podcast overall is just beautiful. I literally make notes while listening to those episodes, becuase you say so many good stuff here that I want to remember and be able to come back over and over again. And I was listening to you talking and I was thinking, literally, I am completely honest: "wow, human beaings can be beuatiful. Men can be so beautiful.". Thank you for this. For this one episode but also this podcast as a whole. I am recommending it to all my friends. It's really moving me, I have tears in my eyes while listening to almost every episode. And I am so greatful that you've let us listen to you love each other, how Jamey called it. Really, I have zero experiences with men talk like that to me, to each other, to anyone in real life. i started listening to this podcast because I wanted to regain hope in men, I wanted to better understand you as a group, what you are going through, what you are struggling with, see what I wasn't able to see before. And this podcast is giving all of this to me and more and it's so refreshing and so so so much needed. Thank you so much and please, continue to do what you are doing if you can, becuase it's really changing people's lives and minds and we, as humankind, really need change in this direction

Thank you for these important conversations. I was wondering if anyone at the Man Enough Podcast has reviewed the book How Can I get Through to You by Terrence Real? Is it a helpful quality book or not?

Thank you. We aren't in a position to give an opinion on that book, so we recommend that you find reviews from reputable journalists.
