Tour a 1953 New Moon vintage trailer. This is the same model trailer that is in the movie, The Long, Long Trailer. See how the owners have restored the trailer and made it into a very comfortable vacation home on wheels.
Filmed during a Halloween vintage camper rally at Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park in Limestone, TN. The camping group is called Smoky Mountain Vintage Campers.

6/11/22 Update: I get many comments saying that there are features in this trailer, that are different than the one in the movie. I just saw this post on a vintage camper group on FB, and wanted to share it with you. The source of this comment knows much more about vintage trailers than I do. *"Actually a real trailer was never used., only set builds based on a 1953 New Moon Trailer, but even the set builds depict many features that real New Moon trailers never offered."* I would also suggest to read other comments on this video. I filmed this in October of 2020. The trailer is not mine, and I was just going by what the owner told me.

I'm certain this camper is exactly what the owners said, vintage & restored accurately, they are obviously passionate collectors. And yes, n Hollywood they do whatever to sets they need to do for sake of filming.

@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 In the movie _The Long, Long Trailer_ , the couple played by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnea trade in their old car and buy a new Mercury convertible (V8 engine). Then, they have a trailer hitch attached to the car frame as well as wiring for the trailer lights and electric trailer brakes. That greatly increases the cost of their home on wheels when one of the big factors Lucy used to convince Desi to buy the trailer was all the money they would save on food and lodging traveling to his new job across the country and to other jobs he would get afterwards. IIRC, in the movie he was an engineer just starting out.

I love vintage trailers. In January 2020, I had to spend a week in Las Vegas on business but, rather than booking a room at a big hotel on the crowded Las Vegas Strip, I went on AirBNB and booked a gorgeous, beautifully maintained 1953 Spartan Mansion travel trailer on a gated property about two miles off the strip that included parking. The hosts actually have two vintage trailers on their property that they rent out on AirBNB, the Spartan Mansion and an Airstream. So cool!

30 years or so ago a man i know was given a long long trailer just like this one, It was in fairly good condition having been parked in the desert since the 1950's but did not have a title. So he was removing the aluminum skin off the trailer for recycling to buy his beer, I gave him $30 for all the cabinets and appliances inside and offered to buy the rolling frame for $50 when he was done ripping it apart. While removing the cabinets & in a drawer i found the original trailer title, purchase receipt & owners manual from the dealer . It was a 1954 California title in Desi & Lucy Arnez's name.. I didnt relate the trailer to the movie or Desi Arnez/Lucille Ball at the time.& it was far too late to save the trailer anyway. It was parked and i imagine abandoned or stored in Lone Pine Ca for many years on an empty lot behind a house in town & used for storage, (Same town where the Movie was actually filmed) someone bought the house & empty lot and wanted the big old trailer removed from the property. The rest is history of an honest & ambitious drunk making some beer money.

I remember these trailers well only difference as a child they seemed to be a lot bigger. We always rented apt. Or houses daddy wouldn't buy a trailer because he said that when you moved them so much it was to much wear and tear on them.e

What a wonderful rig. Florida is a ripe hunting ground for vintage trailers. Within a square mile radius of my home, there are half a dozen Spartans, not to mention dozens off other classic manufacturers. Tragically, the parks are being demolished to overdevelop with multi-family units. I've done some documenting by photo and paintings. A collector could find a treasure trove of opportunity here. I wish I had the wherewithal.

What an amazing job he did on that, I can picture the damage he described and it is just unreal that someone could bring it back to life like they have. I wonder where they actually found the vintage fabric for the curtains, because I don’t imagine it was easy to do. That is so beautiful, I just can’t get over it! A friend of mine bought a new house in Anaheim California in 1954. Her kitchen had a red stove and refrigerator, yellow metal cabinets and yellow Venetian blinds with wide red cloth strips. Beautiful restoration. The original from the movie had the u-shape kitchen with the peninsular dividing the living room from kitchen. I wonder if this one lost that over the years or this one just did not have that exact kitchen. Maybe that was for the movie. I’ll have to go back to my brochure collection. (I have a vast vintage RV brochure collection including the 70’s-80’s Trailer Life magazines) to see what the floor plan was originally with the kitchen. Update!! Just looked. Originally there was a u shaped kitchen with the peninsular division. So I guess over the years this one was removed by prior owners. Nonetheless I’m not saying ANYTHING negative about this awesome trailer!! It’s a irreplaceable heirloom that should be treasured for years to come!! This was my favorite movie since I saw it when I was a kid. I would build trailers out of Legos back then after watching the movie.

Such a nice restoration. I don't think many people realize that after WWII, trailers like this were an option to stick built homes and apartments. I'm old enough to remember postwar trailer park communities filled with trailers similar to this. Back then those communities usually had asphalt paved streets and tidy, well-tended yards. There are still nice trailer park communities but they have evolved into double-wide structures that resemble houses more than trailers.

My Dad was in construction so we moved at least yearly following the job sites. This is just like our first mobile home except ours was the length of a bed longer. We were a family of 5. We got a larger (2 foot X 6 foot larger) mobile home when my new younger sibling came along and got old enough to come out of the crib wedged between my parent's bed and the back door. Thanks for the memories.

So awesome! I love the movie and the trailer. It's so like from the movie that I can see different scenes in my mind as you went through. it really is a "long, long trailer!" We lived in a 40 foot trailer for 2 1/2 years after being married. Later we had A 17 foot travel trailer. One time in Western Northern Maine we get off the road, in the sand and almost lost it. After that I could never watch the Long Long Trailer again. This is a beauty.
