That Pinarello price seems cheap… did you forget the power meter? A DOGMA F dura-ace Di2 12s with power meter and fulcrum speed wheels is £13200. Not to mention the paint jobs are done at silverstone paint technology so also more £££ there. All the bike prices seem under what they should be.

For looks it has to be that Wilier, fantastic paint job, with the Colnago a close second with the thorobred black stallion look. I fancy the Look too. Is Time sponsoring any teams in any bike racing sector, or have they given that up now? Definitely my favourite brand for road frames. I am lucky enough to own a Specialized Tarmac SL7 and I have to say thats my dream road bike. Is it better than other bikes? I don’t think so! I think the Tarmac is a great bike, its light and aero and surprisingly compliant considering how stiff it is. I have done 100 + miles on the tarmac and its so comfortable with 28mm tires rear and 26mm front. After all its all about user experience. I also ride a Dawes steel frame and its also a pleasure to ride. The conclusion is, it doent matter how expensive or cheap your bike is, what matters is how happy you feel when riding. I would dream a Pinarello with a Campagnolo set. But the prices are going nuts... so may never could afford to own one. Still riding my 14 years old almost midrange decathlon bike with Campagnolo Veloce set... even so it's not only about the bike, 10 years ago, when I was in competitive level cycling, I "ate" quite a few Pinarello Price and other 10* costlier bike...

would love to see a video were GCN tech investigates if (or rather how much) the price of the top end models have gone up in price. Take some long going pro tour bike brands such as specialized, cannondal, bianchi etc. and find the price from the 1990s and very year up until today for there top spec model. Do some inflation adjustmants and plot it (inflation adjusted price vs. year). I suspect there has been some price jumps such as the introduction of carbon frames, Di2, disc breaks etc.

Nice show, guys. Here is a question worthy of your considerable talents: What is it with World Tour chains and drivetrains? There are more dropped chains and gear jams in any given world tour race than there are punctures. It started three years ago, and the explanation then was that with covid parts shortages, the teams were running 12 speed cassettes on 11 speed chainrings. Well, that doesn't explain the last two years. I know myself when I changed from 10 speed cassettes to eleven, the shifting wasn't as sharp. Are 12 speed rigs that much more sensitive? Or is the wireless not as quick? Or do wireless/bluetooth signals cause problems with nearby bikes on a similar frequency? A high tech question for the top tech guys: Any answers? Surely you all have noticed this epidemic problem in the pro peleton. I this why Jumbo keeps going to 1X road machines?

You make a great point! For most of us crashing an expensive bike could be a disaster 😬 That's why in lots of crit style races, people choose to ride "cheaper" aluminium bikes that they worry less about.

It would be interesting to see how much difference these bikes make to the riders wouldn't it? If everyone in a tour rode the same bike and specification I doubt very much there would be much of a change in final position, unlike F1 where the best car normally wins and not the best driver!

It is true that sponsoring a cycling team represents a significant commitment for bike brands. However, unlike Formula One, where the cars used in races are vastly different from those available to the public, bike brands primarily sell the exact same models ridden by professional cyclists. This alignment means that the relatively small investment in sponsoring a team can yield substantial returns, as the visibility and credibility gained from success in popular races followed by millions of fans directly enhance the appeal and sales of their products. In essence, consumers can purchase and ride the same bikes that win major races, making sponsorship a highly effective marketing strategy in my opinion!

It doesn't cost the bike brand the retail price of the bike to supply it to the teams - that's how much they charge customers, not how much it costs them to build and supply it to whoever they want
