In September 2023 the kids of Bolton, Preston, Blackburn and other towns and cities across the UK, took part in a sponsored cycle ride to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria (which occured in February 2023).
A total of £26,000 was raised and in December 2023 two of the team visited Sanliurfa and Akcakale in south-eastern Turkey (close the to Syrian border) to distribute the aid to the communities affected by the earthquake.
Organised by Muslim Charity and aided by the Ensar Charity in Turkey, aid was distributed over 4 days to various groups and affected families.
Some of the aid included:
- Food packs for refugees
- Winter emergency packs for refugees living in tents (firewood, blankets, warm clothes, food packs etc)
- Gifts for Hifz students including warm clothes and copies of the holy Qur'an
- 9 container homes for families affected by the earthquake
- 50 bikes for children aged 7-14 years; they also took part in a race aka Tour de Mission Kids Turkiye!
We would like to thank all the donors, sponsors, the riders and everyone who supported this project from start to finish.
An especially heartfelt thank you to Muslim Charity who organised all the logistics for us to be able to deliver this much-needed aid to those in need.
The local charity based in Turkiye - Ensar - were amazing and without their knowledge of the local communities we would not have been able to direct the aid so strategically and precisely. Brother Majid and Sister Noor worked tirelessly during the trip and still do so to this day, helping the most vulnerable in that part of the world.
We pray for all refugees and victims of the earthquake and pray that Allah will keep them in His protection always.
We also pray that all the individuals that helped in any way, shape or form in this endeavour have their deepest permissble wishes fulfulled. Ameen.
