I arrived home Sunday from completing the TMB in 7 days. I had plenty of time for stops, lunch etc. my base weight was 5.5kg that was with tent/sleeping bag etc for wild camping. I just take what I need, your knees will thank you for it. It’s a life changing hike.

I just watched your hour long compilation of all 11 stages. It was great and may be my favorite TMB YT videos thus far. Informative, entertaining, great videography, and the right length, IMO. Keep up the great work. We will be hiking June-July 2024 for our 25th wedding anniversary. Cheers.

@Hikaholics
@Hikaholics Ай бұрын
Thank you! It really depends on a lot. Sleeping in huts is more expensive than camping. Stocking up on groceries is cheaper than having lunch at all the huts. But I think around 1000 euros per person. Hope this helps a bit? Hope you are going to hike the TMB ❤

Interesting! I currently wonder how to set up my jacket system when on trail. So you don't use a proper hard shell, but a simple rain jacket and that Arcteryx soft shell. I understand you have no issues with those jacket fabrics wear and tear when under a heavy backpack?
@Hikaholics
@Hikaholics 5 ай бұрын
Hi there! Great question. For the TMB we didn't use a proper hardshell indeed, just the rain jacket from Froggtoggs. And we have a log base weight, so our backpack isn't that heavy. For those sunny days we just wore a t-shirt and the backpack. I didn't experience any wear and tear during this set up. When going to a country where it rains more often (like say Norway or Sweden) I do bring a proper hardshell. But for the TMB this was the perfect setup for me. Hope this answers your question!

Great videos, watched your whole trip a few times over the now. We're off in latter half of June next year. Did you wear your puffy jackets often? I'm undecided to bring my lightweight puffy (440g) or lighter weight puffy gilet (205g). I'll have a marmot alpha 60 too, similar to your atom so arms would be covered. Thanks 👍
@Hikaholics
@Hikaholics Жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, thanks for the compliment !🙏 We went during the same time of year and hardly used the puffy's to be honest (only on the windy pass at Col de Fours and some evenings when we were shooting videos). I would recommend taking the lightest puffy and bringing a good wind stopper. Also depends on weather of course and if you are sleeping in huts or in a tent. Hope this helps?

@@Hikaholics Thanks Deen. I'll play around with my packing list and see what works best. Just packed my bag (maybe a bit premature 😂) as a test run. Comes in at 6kg without water, so I'm quite comfortable with that. We're staying in huts/refuges the whole way. We'll keep an eye on weather closer to departure and take it from there. Appreciate your help. Cheers, Andy 🍻

Hey Deen, great video..doing the TMB next week…your videos have been sooo helpful….can I ask a question….I’ve an Arc’teryx Kyanite fleece (not windproof) and an Atom Sl and can’t decide which to take? Also taking a MH ghost whisperer puffer jkt ….and was going to take a Squamish wind proof jkt…..is the latter overkill ? Or is it best to take the Atom SL, MH GW and Squamish? Be glad to know your thoughts?😅
@Hikaholics
@Hikaholics 10 ай бұрын
Thanks! Are you going camping or are you staying in the huts? I think the Squamish is a bit overkill because you have a rain jacket (you are bringing one right?) that is windproof. I would take one of these combinations: 1. kyanite, MH + rain jacket (this is your wind proof layer) 2. SL, MH, rain jacket Personally I prefer option 2 because then you have the option to use the SL as a wind blocker. A rain jacket can be a bit hot with high output activity. That’s why I love the SL, it has a bit of everything, insulation, DWR, blocks a lot of wind and is breathable. Hope this helps?

very informative video! I am doing the TMB in 3 weeks and I think I am bringing too many clothes lol I think I need to watch her video to see what she brought! so did you sleep in hiking clothes or did you sleep in the baselayers at the huts?
@Hikaholics
@Hikaholics Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Alette's packlist video will be online this thursday, so perfect timing! How cool that you are also going to hike the TMB! Don't bring too many clothes, see it as 10, day-hikes and you have a thousand places to wash your dirty gear. The huts were really warm so we didn't sleep in baselayers. We did bring them however:) Hope this helps?

@@Hikaholics that was another question - how warm or cold the huts were! So they are very hot? like definitely sleeping in shorts? you both hiked in the same pants and shirt each day?

@@ALEX-pg1hb Very easy as well. Almost every hut has sockets. Only at Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme at 2500m we had to use our powerbank. But even there, there was a designated place to charge everything.

Do you think a backpack of 85 liter that weights 2kg is too much? It's my regular backpack that I went backpacking with through South-East Asia. I'm a bit doubting now to buy a smaller backpack and already save 1kg of weight
@Hikaholics
@Hikaholics Жыл бұрын
85 liters is big in our opinion. It does depend on if you go sleeping in the huts or if you are going camping (since then you need to bring a tent and sleeping/cooking system). If you are going hut by hut a smaller bag would be better, especially if you save weight. Maybe you can borrow a smaller backpack from someone you know? It is important tho, to practice with the backpack. Maybe it's scraping your hips or something. And better to know that beforehand than discover painful wounds during the trail. But most of all, use the gear you know and trust. That way you feel most confident on the trails! Hope this helps

I got a round hat instead of a cap, because it offers sun-protection in your neck too. Don't you get burned in your neck with wearing a cap?
@Hikaholics
@Hikaholics Жыл бұрын
I (Alette) do bring a round hat as well! I get SUPER sunburned, so I need hats, sun protective clothes, and an extra scarf for my neck. Deen on the other hand, doesn't get burned at all. We both do use SPF 50 sunscreen all the time. The sun can be relentless in the mountains.

do you need your passport to cross country borders on the trail?
@Hikaholics
@Hikaholics Жыл бұрын
Good question! You don't need it, there is no check. The landline is literally a stone which says '', same to Switzerland. That's the border. Maybe you do need a passport with traveling to the trail, that depends from your country of origin.

I'm suprised that you bring deodorant. Ofcourse it's just a little effort. But in what circumstances do you actually use it? I guess when arriving at a hut / camping area, one of the first things you can do is shower
@Hikaholics
@Hikaholics Жыл бұрын
It's is not specifically necessary, no. Not all huts do provide showers. Plus, some huts ask you to use minimum water as possible, since they need to do a lot of work to get enough water to the remote huts. BTW, on the TMB you have to pay for the showers. Deen uses deodorant to feel a bit refreshed, I (Alette) don't bring deodorant on the trails. But I don't get that smelly. It's just a personal preference!
