A treat today as the weather is fine and the garden is full of flowers so I took my camera out to do an August tour of the dye garden, the vegetable garden and the meadow that surrounds my Studio.
I also cast on a new knitting project The Heirloom Quilt Cardigan by Katryn Seeburger www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr.... I am using plant dyed yarn that is a mix of linen and bamboo you can see my yarn choices and what it looks like on the needles.
🌱 I am Jane Lindsey, a textile artist working in rural Scotland. I am inspired by the landscape surrounding my Studio, right at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands. I run a membership community called The Studio Club that helps people rekindle their creativity through reconnecting to the natural world.

Such a relaxing video of your stunning garden. So inspiring! I too have started on the Heirloom Quilt cardigan! I fell in love with it instantly and knew I definitely had to knit it!

I think it may be one of those ‘stop you in your tracks’ kind of patterns. It’s lovely to knit. I’d love to see the colours you have chosen. X

What a beautiful garden, it looks a very relaxing place to sit and watch the world go by. I really your planting style and love the the calendula and delphinium planted together - they look stunning. I've never grown Sanguisorbia before so I will look out for some seeds and give it a go.

Thank you Elizabeth. There are a number of Sanguisorba varieties - a one with dark burgundy flowers which I think is the most common and possibly the wild form, this white one which self seeds all over my garden and then some amazing ones with bright pink flowers that I have around the outdoor dining table. They all like damp soil - which we have a lot of! I’m really glad you liked the tour. X

Beautiful pictures of your wonderful garden. What a gorgeous place to be and thanks for sharing it with us ☺️ I saw the heirloom pattern the other day too but thought it’s too cropped for me. Takes someone else to point out that theoretical it would be easy to lengthen…. Of course it can it’s made of squares!!! Given me some thoughts now 😊

Yes in the pattern Katryn suggests finding a cardigan that you already own and adding in squares to that length so I think that’s what I will do. The other thing is that it lacks a closure of any kind so I am wondering if it will slip off too easily - in which case I will have to make some kind of clasp. Until it’s made I won’t be able to tell really - maybe that’s the mystery that will keep me going till it’s sewn up!

So many beautiful flowers. And the yarns you've got from the dyeing process are really pretty! Your cardigan will be really nice. I find that I struggle with finishing projects that have multiple steps, because the novelty has worn off by the time it comes to the finishing steps. Currently I have stacks of crocheted squares ready to be sewn together into a cardigan for my daughter. They have been ready for several weeks... Any tips on how to motivate myself to get them done, other than "Just do it"?

I think that motivation to finish the last bit of a project is so difficult and I’m not really the person to ask. I would normally sew up as I go along but the one thing that is concerning me about this project is that I will have to leave the sewing up to the end to balance the colours. Maybe other people have suggestions of tactics to stop it becoming a pile of pretty squares in a bag. X

This is a very random question, I hope you don’t mind. My shape is quite similar to yours. The dresses you wear are very flattering. Do you mind telling me where I might find them? Thanks! I’m binge watching your stories today.

I don’t mind at all - most of my dresses are from the UK brand Toast - and almost all are second hand. Their designs are pretty timeless and in similar colours year to year so now that I know my size in their range I simply have an alert on Vinted and eBay and buy one every so often when it comes up at the right price! Great tour of your beautiful garden - Thank You! Do you do anything to the meadow area or is it completely left to its own devices?
@snapdragonlife
@snapdragonlife 11 ай бұрын
Thank you. The meadow is left pretty much to itself but we remove some nettles and dock seeds and in March we pull out a layer of dead grass and dead weeds with a rake. This should traditionally be removed in September but it gives a good place for mice and invertebrates to live over winter. Sometimes I plant rejects from the main garden into the edges.
