Recommend measuring total height, solar panels and any cargo boxes included,,put some kind of label on dash or sun visor,, remember "NO DRIVE THROUGH'S" ,,fast foods,,coffee stops, drive through bank hubs etc....some manual car washes,,most are signed on building and may have spray set up on outside of 1 wall without roof structure.....although not a resident of fixed housing,,you will still have to set up mailing address for legal contacts,, creditors,etc.......a Post Office Box works for most...or maybe another family members residence and change of address on drivers license ........I lived in a Class - C 23 ft. Motorhome for 2 yrs. and it seems something new always comes up........be sure to have needed misc. tools for roadside problems,,proper sized lug wrench for tires,,rec. small hydraulic jack of needed weight capacity....battery jumper cables.....much of this kind of equip. can store under lower bunk compartments.....Auto service may not always be available for where you may want to go....

Todd, that was so kind of you to gift a copy of our book to Catherine! We are so happy she opened it at exactly the right page to help her navigate the emotional part of the journey.. and hope she gets a ton more out of the rest of the content in the book. So nice of you and Pat to offer your support to her like that. You did the RV community proud.

Congrats on the purchase of your 2002 Silverado 2500HD Duramax Diesel 4x4 Crew Cab Truck & 2000 Lance Lite 8'6 Truck Camper with included solar power ! The bathroom plus shower is a luxurious necessity just for the added piece of mind.....Especially when it comes to safety when travelling alone into the wilderness ! Love the remodelling you did Catherine to the inside of this camper.....with your modern chic décor of sprucing it up without going overboard...….The California Bear rug is a sweet addition , hereby giving this camper a cozy lived-in type of feeling ! Thanks Scarboro/Tom

Catherine great choice selecting campfire cooking over omitting an oven inside your camper ! Less worry about clean-ups after cooking , and also a deterrent for animals searching out cooking smells...…. thus avoiding further investigation inside your camper ! Thanks Scarboro/Tom

For the TV all you need is some inexpensive rabbit ears to plug into the coax antenna fitting on the back of the TV. Then when you get to a new area you program the TV to pick up the stations you are receiving. Once you got all your stuff loaded up drive across the CAT scales and see what the whole rig weighs with camper on it and all your survival gear.. Make sure you're not overloading your truck. Too many people with these campers are carrying too much weight in my personal experience. We have a 2010 Artic Fox 990 with one slide. Awesome camper .2014 dually mega cab Ram is not enough truck to carry it properly.

Nice! Enjoy your travels. I'm traveling around the USA in my 25 foot class A Winnebago Warrior motorhome with my little dog Tinkerbell making videos. I've been on the road for 8 and a half months. I've camped BLM most of my travels. I have only spent 15.00 since I left. That was at crossroads campground on the Colorado River. Across in California from Parker Arizona. Really nice campground 5.00 a night.

That is a very nice rig - comfortable and has just what you need to take care of yourself and travel. I miss having our small RV but now alone I am not going to travel on my own. I'm 71 and have many memories when hubby and I did travel. So watching youtube channels like yours lets me see new things and enjoy. Maybe one day I'll get myself another rig of some type and venture out. But for now - thank you for sharing you adventures and BEAUTIFUL pictures. Hugs and safe travels, Marcie

Big change for a Cali. girl.....Nice rig and combination...good time of year to see if the lifestyle works for you....sounds great for your photography line of work and having a basecamp at or near a trailhead....a good RV center can set you up with any needed extras,,,,(ex..) leveling blocks (for parking set up),,water hoses for filling and dump station equipment/hoses/hookup fittings,,,some campgrounds require special hookup fittings ,so be sure to check those out..satellite equipment/services for computer/tv hook ups ....also ,an alarm system of some type while in or out of the camper....I don't use my oven much ,but sometimes do, if planning a get together with others.....useful items ,,,either wall or shelf mounted micro-wave,(recommend) or counter top model,,coffee maker, also recommend wall /under cabinet type,(because you will probably use it daily, will need to store any/all loose things while traveling, will use as much (or more) than used at home residence....if in warmer climates, a counter top /portable ice maker is a huge plus,,because small area use freezer space for meats /other food items...saves a lot from buying ice and using a separate cooler.....instead of oven ,I usually use a small propane grill on folding table (outside),, lots out there ,I bought a Weber ,works great,,can be used with portable fuel tank 1-20lb. or plumbed with a hose set up to your RV system.....when you can,, try to plan your trips as far in advance as you can,,particularly if you will be trying to get a campsite hookup at campgrounds, (usually for laundry or a meet up with others)...some sites require a 30-day or more prepaid registration,,and popular locations may need much more advance time....amazing how many people live this way until you try it.....Plan ahead when you can....Not as many places to park a camper as you might think.....The term "Boondocking" is not as available as some people/videos lead...when in need on the road ,you will get used to rest stops,,,truck stops and of course Walmart for unplanned overnight stays.....Even on roads and areas you know well,, you will find more "NO PARKING" ,,,"NO OVERNIGHT CAMPING" signs than you have ever seen before......Lots of information out there ....It is very much a lifestyle that takes learning ....A beautiful woman travelling alone will attract the unwanted ,, Your safety will be on your own....PLAN AND PREPARE FOR IT.....Will look forward to your adventures........until next time.............Stay Safe and God Bless...........

You will so love Alaska! I have a friend who retired up there two years ago and he is loving life and posting great vids! Just be aware the road through Canada to get there is very, very rough. My sister and her family took their RV up there several years ago and had windows in their RV break due to the roughness. Also, get you a dependable gun that fits your hand and you feel comfortable shooting. Especially, for a female traveling alone and going backpacking into isolated places, you have to be smart and protect yourself. Enjoy your new life! I can retire next year and have my own plans. Enjoyed the video. You did a great job revamping the camper.

You mentioned David Bowie. I met and talked to him about 12 years ago when I was hiking alone at Point Reyes National Seashore about 30 miles North of San Francisco. He was hiking with a black woman I didn't recognize. When I saw him approaching me I thought this guys looks like David Bowie except fatter and older, but I was remembering him as his Ziggy Stardust persona. We started talking and he was a reserved, polite, friendly English gentleman, not weird at all. When I got home I told my wife and she didn't believe me and ran and got a People magazine with a recent picture of him. I said yes that's him, he looked just like that, but he told me who he was anyway, but even if he didn't tell me I would have known from his voice and eyes. I was so saddened when he passed and get emotional now when I hear his music and remember our encounter.

you have a quality built lance. i know a couple ladies that have 20 year old lances and they love them. i bought a new lance truck camper in august 2018. first rain was November 2018 and it sprung three leaks: bathroom vent, kitchenette vent, bedroom vent. took it to the dealership and they fixed it. one month later experience heavy rain and two of the three original leaks started again plus a new leak inside the walls. i dumped the camper on the lot without permission and DEMANDED MY MONEY BACK. i got all my money back but that is usually NEVER the case. hold on to that quality lance.

@OneNationUnderGod. 5 жыл бұрын
I always have my handgun locked in a safe in the bedroom of our travel trailer. Definitely check State laws before going into them but most recognize a camper as your home and the key is that the gun is NOT accessable while driving your camper/tow vehicle. Also many state's require the ammo cannot be loaded in the firearm. I keep the clip separate from the gun but in close proximity if I should need it in a hurry.

I just stumbled onto your videos a few minutes ago. A couple of years back I went out to a gold prospecters camp in Arizona for vacation in mi SUV. I had a tent and big air matress and was going to be there a week. The first night I tried to sleep in the tent but it wasn't a very good one and I was too cold to sleep. The next night I tried to sleep in the SUV but that was too small and uncomfortable. I ended up leaving after that. I've been thinking about retiring next year and moving from Missouri to someplace warm. My budget won't allow me to just pick up and move, so I've been thinking about buying a rig like yours to live in until I can buy a house in an area that I like. Your videos have given me a lot of information and inspiration, but it will still be a while before I can afford anything like that. I like and have subscribed to your KZfaq videos.

I just keep thinking be so careful and you might benefit by backing your truck so if a bear comes after you just jump in the truck and drive away” Quickly “ I’m sure you’ll have bear spray, and wasp spray can be a good weapon against people also!!

Just remember that employing bear spray out of a camper door can quickly render the camper “ unplayable” .

Nice looking rig. Just be sure to keep an eye on the weight you have over that SRW axle. The majority of the Lances are too heavy for a 1 ton single rear wheel axle and are much safer on a dual rear wheel axle. Please join one of the pickup camper groups and make sure that you are aware. Wish you the best with your new adventure.

You must be a mudder, 😝! I live near one in an RV Park and once in a while we’ll get some folks stop by on the way. Thanks for your suggestion to this young lady. I was pretty worried about this particular problem myself, which is why we’re here. Lots of people don’t count on the difference in the axle ratings. ( she DID say she was new at this). Being an ex truck driver I’m aware of the toll taken on uneven weight distribution. It can literally be a matter of life and death on these small vehicles. We don’t wanna see another disaster on the road. My solution for HER problem can be simple and not all that costly. I used to haul livestock with my old half ton Ford simply by adding an airbag system on my pickup, and it served me well for a long time. Heavier rated tires are also a must. And when the camper is off the truck, the air can be bled off. This has been some time ago but I have seen em on KZfaq, and hopefully they’ve not priced themselves out of the market for us po folks!!!

I had a Lance truck camper and traveled the US Canada and Alaska I’ve sold that then bought a 35 foot travel trailer and traveled America again. I want to get the truck camper again because I liked having my house wherever my truck was also the best time of my life so far :) was in that camper! Loved that pic of the bear! Have fun safe travels! Peace

I've even picked up several channels with a $3 cable adapter and split a 4 piece of speaker wire and taped it to the edge of a window where is not able to be seen and look ghetto and pick up many channels.

Your video here was one of the most real and relatable videos ive yet seen on truck camper life. You didnt spend a homes worth of mortgage to do it, and its all very nice. I did something similar, i bought a 2006 F250 long bed supercab 4x4 that needed a new engine. total cost ended up around $8k when i was done with the truck. I then purchased a 1999 elkhorn camper with the exact layout as your camper for $2500. an old retired couple passed on, they stored it in a machine shop, so it was in really good condition, everything worked, the kids just didnt want to deal with it, i bought it in Minnesota during the winter which made getting it home an experience... but for under $11k i got my setup. Thanks for showing us you dont need to spend $80k to do this. be safe, wish you the best.

@@CatherineGregoryAdventures .. I dont have much of a channel, but i did want to share an alternative to spending a small fortune on something as simple as tie down chains/rods.. its insane how much you can spend on peripheral stuff. My frame mounts I got done front and back for $300. They work incredible. If you wanted to buy torklifts it would end up near $1100 bucks i think, then the fastguns for another several hundred... ends up being more than my camper after a while. The one i got (happi-jack) were affordable and worked fine. I was happy with them. Only got a few trips last year, hoping to get several more to come. Let me know how your setup works or doesn't work.

If you ever come to New Orleans or Baton Rouge, please look me up. You did a great job with the camper. The only variable that I have to consider, is the ability to recharge 4 100 amp/hour Lithium batteries on my boat, at night.

Absolutely perfect Catherine. Making it home is important, my first van was very homely with little facilities. My second was a full RV with everything including central heating. I preferred my first old rust bucket. Lol. Although I don’t go full time even a month can have an emotional wrench but the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Keep busy, have a routine and don’t be afraid to ask/talk to people. The positive energy you put out will come straight back to you.🙏 Now go explore, you lucky thing.:-) Mike

Nice! What impressed me is that you got the right sized truck for your camper. It sits pretty straight & level. A lot of people overload their suspensions & their rigs become difficult or unsafe to handle. Anyway, for future upgrades consider installing a maxx-air fan & one of those affordable diesel heaters. They use very little fuel & you won't get the condensation that propane heaters generate. Plus they're safe in regards to fumes as the exhaust & combustion is external & isolated from the inside of the cabin.
