The fact that they don’t require an ID is a HUGE DEAL. A Lot of food pantries even require an ID, as do places to get clothes and supplies for kids. Also, making your own goals is unheard of, many times the goals are made without consulting with the person in crisis and then they’re punished when they don’t meet the goals that someone else made. The way the Dream Center is structured really seems to be the way most places SHOULD be ran, giving autonomy and support to those who need it so they can actually be equipped to be on their own.

It's a huge deal. Abusers and traffickers deny access to ID documents to keep their victims from getting the resources they need to live independently.

I read somewhere that the sweetest revenge for evil behavior is kindness in return. So to establish such a wonderful program in a house where there used to be so much evil will definitely rank high on that list!

I’m from South Dakota and knowing she was basically being held captive here for awhile, haunts me. We are a small state and defiantly go by the mentality of “we take care of our own”. Knowing this was happening here and no one really knew just breaks my heart . No one I know has much knowledge of Mormons at all (it’s not common in SD), let alone FLDS.

Wow. What a top notch facility and it seems they have thought of a lot of aspects of what it takes to run it well. Glad the kids are being protected as well.

Did I tell you my story about leaving my ex? He basically said it was over, got in his car and left. I immediately called my parents. They were in shock. Because they were told that Mormon marriages last forever. My dad and stepmom left me move in for a year and try to go back to school. So hard with a mental illness. I really had no resources. But it gave me the time to leave the religion. I did go back and try to make it work, but I eventually offically left. I did later find out the colleges have ADA services.

Thank you so much for showing us around! I love how they use the space now, how they remodeled it to be a place where people get out of an unhealthy environment, to gain more freedom and independence. The exact opposite to how this home was once used. I wonder what kind of books they have on their shelves now… 🙂

I first heard about the FLDS in the 1980s, and then it was creepy and wrong, to say the least. At that time Flora Jessop was the activist that helped people escape. Since then the progress as been phonemenal, I am very proud of your accomplishments.

Fantastic to see! I had seen Brielle on other shows and I remember in one she had just bought the property and then in another they gave a small update about it, but it wasn't anything like this yet. It's wonderful poetic justice to see a place that an evil man once used to commit horrible crimes used to help his victims and other people who have been harmed. Brielle and all of the people involved have done a wonderful job! I'm not in a position to give money right now, but hopefully sometime in the future.

Incredible what she is doing. And y’all too!! I can’t financially contribute at this time due to being in a building phase with my other half but I have a running list of organizations we want to contribute to once we can and this is definitely going on that list! And it’s good to know there’s one in Phoenix! That’s very close to my town. While I can’t give financially, I try to give my time. So I’m definitely going to check them out. My mission in life is to somehow help and contribute to everyone being able to live a peaceful, productive and ultimately happy life. I struggle with how to do that sometimes. This woman and y’all (Sam and Melissa!) are very inspirational that somehow, someway, I can make a difference as an individual, eventually. Just waiting for the calling. But until then, I try to do what I can for wonderful organizations such as this. Keep doing what you’re doing! Y’all are very inspiring! ❤

Eventually I did get help with my mental illness. I'm blessed with stable housing. One of my problems right now is I can't drive. I can't pass the eye exam at the BMV anymore. I have strabismus which means I can't focus my eyes, I see with one eye at a time. (No double vision though). It's been 20 years, and it's much better now.

I've wanted to see this video. Curious, do they do art therapy there? We started to have it again in the building, then two weeks ago, they didn't have it. She said she had two jobs, maybe she over worked herself. I bought myself oil pastels, media of my choice.

Amanda Rae talks about the Kingston’s/the order on her channel (they interviewed her as well). AUB is another one, they are the one that the Sister Wives were part of, Amanda Rae has interviewed someone from that cult as well. There’s another one in Canada/Alaska and one other there mostly in Mexico.

Carpet on the wall? First they took out the carpet on the wall and later they changed the carpet on the floor? Carpet on the walls was a thing? For soundproofing?
@Jillousa
@Jillousa 10 ай бұрын
I might be wrong but I think it was popular in the FLDS because it did sound proof from abuse. I recommend listening to interviews of people who escaped and some of them talk about the carpet on the wall

Is there a photo and explanation of carpeting on the walls? I've listened to many FLDS podcasts, and don't remember that.
@sleepycalico
@sleepycalico 10 ай бұрын
In this video there was a mention of replacing the carpeting that referred to the carpet on the walls. I had never heard of that before, either. Could just be for sound control because of so many people living right on top of each other. Apartment living is hard enough, I found. Having multiple bedrooms would be even more invasive for sound. @@mikkibates7854
