Join us for a hodgepodge of topics regarding the Shiloh National Military Park and the soldiers who fought there (including General Parker Hills naming the worst man to ever dawn a military uniform).
Garry Adelman is the Chief Historian of the American Battlefield Trust, General Parker Hills comes to us from Battle Focus and Dr. Chris Mackowski is the Editor-in-Chief of Emerging Civil War. #ShilohBattlefieldTour
This video is part of our Battlefield Tour Series covering Civil War Tennessee and Mississippi. View the full playlist here: • Civil War Tennessee/Mi...
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

I find Mr. Parker Hills knowledge and delivery of the story of Shiloh to be the best I have ever heard. Thoroughly enjoyed this series.

I’ve been stationed 3hrs from Shiloh for the last 3 years and have yet to go visit. I kick myself every day when I was moving up to TN when I passed the exit and never got off. Never too late though!

Make it happen Rob, you won’t regret it. As a volunteer there, it’s a treasure because it’s so isolated.

I'm really enjoing these videos. Being from Savannah I get the chance to often walk the battlefield but to hear the events and opinions told from true historians of the Civil War is tremendous to me. I also agree Colonel Everett Peabody is the true hero of Shiloh.

Loving this series and I really enjoy hearing the differing opinions about history and its interpretation and reinterpretation over time, both in the Trust videos and from hearing from rangers and historians on my trips to the battlefields. Also, having walked many of these fields myself over the years it's great to revisit these places with others who have their own insights and seeing spots which are now accessible which may not have been some years ago.

Only thing to make this series better would be close up pictures and dialog of the monuments for those of us that cannot travel there.

The stacked cannons here at Chickamauga mean two different things: 1) the short stacked cannons in the battlefield represent field headquarters and 2) the tall stacked cannons represent a mortuary monument where a brigade commander fell, three confederate and three union

So why is there a difference in the stacked cannon balls between battlefields?

I understand exactly what you're talking about....I read "Four Years in the Stonewall Brigade" Book by John Overton Casler.... His first hand experience in the 33rd Stonewall brigade.... I'm sure y'all know what I'm talking about.... But he talks about some history that's been altered... He talks about a incident supposedly took place at Appomattox that General Lee offered his sword to General Grant and Grant refused it.... And he said that that incident never happened but people changed History and wrote it down that way....

You can hype up Peabody all you want to but Major Powell was 10 times more hero than Peabody. The buy led the patrol, was wounded multiple times and died in the hornest's nest.
