Well the man is older now 72. It's understandable. He want to start living in the present instead of dreaming of the future. He taking stock of his life and realize he doesn't have that much time life so it's time to enjoy his present...

@@Anth230 it’s not just him a lot of people have given up on the future in General. If you look at most sci-fi media they are all about dystopian societies in a far off post apocalyptic future where humanity has no hope at all. Now I’m afraid that how people are they don’t want to believe in a perfect utopia like Star Trek they are ready for a Mad Max world.

@@Howyaduing There were plenty of dystopian themes back during the 70's on up. Star trek is basically the only one that had this "utopia". The truth is it utopia doesnt exist. Life is not perfect. Humanity will have an ending. He just realizes that life is getting shorter and there is no reason to continue to fantasize about a future that probably wont ever come and if it did he would be dead. So living in the present seem more palatable as you age. It just does. There comes a time when a person has to abandon their fantasies.

@@Howyaduing Well I was thinking he was mostly talking about the actual future or what he perceived to be his future. Not the shows hes provided props for. Because he has made plently of props for depressing future outlooks. I will agree with you though that Star Trek has taken a step back from its previous more optimistic look.

Practical props and effects are WAY more impressive than someone making something in CG! This is why older movies are so awe inspiring.

For the white egg chair, John's biggest inspiration and influence was the similarly egg and ball-shaped white chair designed by Finnish designer Eerio Aarnio in 1963.

This man needs to be interviewed by a proper Sci Fi fan with a KZfaq channel who can carefully examine all the props over an hour or more. This NBC piece feels like the cool girl visiting the nerd and she is baffled by what she sees.

I checked the auction catalogues (all items had a photo), everything sold was just your normal furniture/stylish modern pieces, none of the custom made sci fi items were in the auction. What happened to them?
