Really interesting I never knew anything about cotton until watching your channel

Thanks for the tour! I've seen a couple other gin tours fairly recently on a couple other channels. This one is quite an operation, not to mention the yard and buildings. Really neat stuff.

I learned how to be an Assistant Ginner in a Murray Gin. It was funny on the last major upgrade they did on that gin; they pulled out the 4 original Murray gin stands & replaced them with ONE Continental 141 stand. It out ginned all four Murray model 90's combined! Also the gin I'm talking about only ginned 10 bales an hour on good days. It wasn't steam powered like this one. It ran on twin diesel engines. When they upgraded the gin to all electric; they sold those twin diesel engines to a tugboat company who acquired them to run on a tugboat that runs on the Gulf of Mexico the last I heard. They put in two electric motors to replace the diesel twins; one motor was a 200 HP & the other one was a 150 HP. I would've hated to have to have paid their electric & natural gas bills from Sept - December every year! They used Natural Gas in the two burners to heat the two dryer towers.

Glad you got some good footage despite some technical issues. Found some new and interesting info about the process. That being said...at what point do we dive into a pile of unpressed cotton?!

When I was 8 or 9 years old I hauled cotton to one of 3 gins within a mile of our farm. Things have changed since the 1950's This year my farm had 3 fields of cotton...the last field ginned today. About one tenth of my land is planted most years. Adobe Walls Spearman gin has 9 stands doing about 300 thousand bales in a good year. Your tour was impressive. Gins like the one in Seminole makes Texas the king of cotton.

Very interested I use to work in a cotton gin growing up in Arizona, but now they are so big and modern we use trailer to haul the cotton to the gin hard work.

I made a great round trip of the East of the USA in 1981 (I had rented a car). From the corn belt, Kansas, I went down by the Mississippi valley and a former planter made me visit the cotton museum (of which he was the director), his ex-farm, the ginning factory. near Jackson MS. The seeds go to an oil mill, and the fibers are woven (spinning mills) Daniel from France

I believe Andy Hourigan feeds a cotton byproduct in his dairy ration (farming fixing and fabricating)

Did the cotton prices stay high? I know it was earlier in the year. Same with corn, but next year’s fertilizer is outrageous!
