One hint, Jan -- in mid-January, when it's -40º and windy in Saskatoon, schedule yourself for a tour of a dairy farm in southern California of Florida!

I am a dairy farmer from Romania, europe, and i want to see as many as possible different farm models, i allready learnt a lor from you. Keep up the good work 🙋♂️

I will check on your channel and see if you have videos of your dairy ? The best thing about KZfaq is how it shrinks the world. With the videos we become more like neighbors and friends.

I had a look at your channel. It seems that you are an accomplished saxophone player as well as a dairy farmer! I enjoyed the dance by the Boiu Village Dance Troupe. Please do make a video of your farm also. I wonder if your Dance Troupe has ever competed in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales.
@Horea_Suciu2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewjones-productions unfortunately my dance troupe has stopped the activity and that video on my channel is very old, when i was just started to play the saxophone, now i just go to private parties, weddings and other like this. I am just at second generation of dairy farmer, i just started with my dad like 5 years ago we don't have so many things to show and i really don't have time to making videos because my free time is for practice and learn more about new saxophone techniques.

Great tour! Show more farms! You should go across Canada doing it as you get the time available to do so. Congratulations to the farmer for having everything well thought out and contingency plans in place for all aspects! Not going to have to worry about manure spills on that place.

Yes more field trips for sight-seeing other manage systems including calves. It's all into the small details as noise, light, ventilation, energy, cleaning, reserve systems feed handling and such, Jan. Thanks!

Wow, I wish my dad was alive to see this. He wouldn't believe today's dairies. Pretty different from what he grew up on when his dad came from Holland in about 1900.

Well now, that was very interesting. Glad you came up with this idea, it's a fantastic new concept and a great way to educate those of us who are not as familiar with dairy farming. This is a great addition to your videos, and I personally would like to see more of these tours that you are doing. And a happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Save me a couple of slices of pie, I'm not too fussy on which kind.

Grain is always good to give to cows while they are being milked, whether it's in a rotary, herringbone or robot. Not only does it keep them pre-occupied (so more calm) it also makes them want to go into a stall or robot without needing to be ushered. Feeding grain will also increase their energy and nutrient levels so they will produce better quality milk. Eating also releases serotonin so they will drop milk more quickly and helps to stop cows getting hypercalcaemia.

More farm tours would be amazing. I was hoping to see more stuff like the heifer barns, calf barn and the actual free stall barn more. Thanks for your hard work and dedication to the channel

Seeing more of the dairy tours would be fantastic. I am not a farmer but am an avid watcher of many farm KZfaq channels. As such, I don't possess some of the working knowledge of how things actually get done. I would have enjoyed seeing more of how the cows got into the rotary milking stations and how they left. The feed system while milking was interesting. Can you show more of how things get done. Great video. Thanks for doing it.
@JJRush_2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, that would be awesome to see and tour other farms! To me it's a natural progression for your channel to show the good things that are happening with dairy farming. It really gives you a platform to be a positive influence on the dairy community and industry.

Thank you for taking us along, and thanks to the dairy farmer for showing us around. I am very impressed at how everything is kept as clean as possible. So difficult when milk and manure production occurs only a few inches from each other. That must be a huge investment. With your long cold winters making enough silage and hay must be a huge task.

When WE were in Canada visiting our family. We went to a Robotic farm on Sumas way Abbottsford B/C. Take a look the cows just went in themselves to be milked. Was great to see this.They also had chickens where the coop open~d and closed at dawn and dusk on a timer .Was magic looking around this farm. Worth a visit sometime.Cheers.

That beautiful dairy seems to be in the middle of nowhere! Nice flat land too! I liked how that young man was thinking of his future with room to grow and structure built with that goal to fulfill his big dream! Yes, more tours please! It is interesting to hear of their family history, too. Questions to add interest: (for new ops) What are some changes--if any-- you would make in hind sight? What is the best new upgrade you made?

Yes, I enjoy seeing different farms, different style of operation. More details would be ok with me. Since the cows are being fed while being milked, I wonder if any of them try to stay on for a second trip?
@uppsalahazzemarkstedt27592 жыл бұрын
Regarding "the second trip", cows really try do it if they have the chance even in robot milking free range, but the tag collar check when they was there last time and don't allow them more feed or let them in. In robot milking we have a sluice gate system so they will get back to stable instead of into the milking robot with the yummies again. Some stubborns can stand in queue a big part of their days, but they get exercise by going round a lot! :D
@ashylles12 жыл бұрын
There are usually 1 or 2 cows determined and sneaky enough to stay on a second time around.
@timothymbonham44532 жыл бұрын
They only get 8 ounces (225 grams) of grain -- that's about 2/3rds of a can of soda pop. I think most cows will have eaten that all before their 10 minutes on the rotary is done. If the grain is all gone, and they don't get a second helping, there's not much reason to stay on for a second go round.

Where I live in Minnesota there are no small family owned dairies left. I wouldn't even know where to find a family dairy here. All the dairy farms around here are gone. We do however have a couple of huge dairies within 30 miles of where I live. One has 9500 head & the other one has 11000 head. The 9500 head dairy cost 50 million to build according to news reports. They have on site living quarters for the workers. They raise 6500 acres of feed for the cattle which means 6500 acres of cropland not available for the local farmers. Thanks for the tour & I would love to see more tours.

Some of these farms you show make the couple I worked at almost prehistoric in design. We did everything manually except the actual milking. Made for some long ass days and a lot of loads of laundry. Our days started at 4:00 am and ended at 6:00 pm if things ran smoothly. I loved the people I worked for and they treated us fantastic. From there I went to living in a big logging camp as a choker setter in the Olympic Mountains and thought logging was easier work. The best part of each was the food and long hot showers.

Thank you Jan for the tour. I drive past this farm at least once a week and have been curious since the first shovel hit the ground. With upto 700 cows being milked in that barn I would imagine the 4 other barns should be pretty busy with non milking animals. It is amazing how much that particular farm has changed over the last 45 years as my family has farmed just east of there for the last 100 years.
