I had a spontaneous run-in with a tourist visiting San Francisco. It's interesting to listen to an outsider's perspective of the city, especially in these odd pandemic times. More Below ↓

What she said about not watching the news... that was us several years ago as it became clear it's a steam rolled herd directing. Has anyone watched Dune? The new one was released December 2020. "Fear is the mind killer. " News can easily be substituted by something else. The core issue is people being lemmings not looking around, noticing people, having friendships, and growing as humans. When we're doing that not only are we thinking more clearly, we're more grounded, and when people come along expecting to just be followed, they get to meet those who have taken ownership of themselves. That is real freedom - being responsible for yourself, what you think, your EQ, your ability to think outside of the tide in a situation, noticing when there's social engineering and manipulation at work. It leads to happiness because you're relating to people while not getting sucked into everyone's negativity and drama while still capable of empathy - more capable of empathy actually both for yourself abs for others.

Exactly! That's the problem. Some people tend to have double standard when it comes to propaganda. In this case, it's thinking a country's news (Chinese news channel) has government propaganda. I'm sure other countries have government news propaganda, including the United States. What about the rumours spread online on articles and social media, such as Facebook and media too? They could be propaganda as well since many people believe them. Yes, there are lots of rumours about COVID-19 cases and other information here in Malaysia on social media, and we tend to rely on government statistics and formal news channels (such as TV3) since they tend to be more accurate and more reliable - unlike the social media that causes widespread panic and chaos. People don't tend to question them and they don't double check the information sources. They totally believe the information they receive and they accept it as if it comes from their holy scripture. It's a one-sided way of looking at things and that leads to bias.

Even Google Type 'define fascism' and you'll see the snippet from the Wikipedia "definition" placed Above the dictionary definition. Wiki "definition": "a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe." Dictionary definition which is much better, kind of: "a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce..." (At the end they add that it's usually done by nationalism and racism)

Dude, I have been living in Brazil for the last 2+ years with my husband while we wait for his green card and I recently found your videos and they have brought me such peace of mind. When I come back to the states to visit I no longer feel like I identify with American culture. I never realized the extent of our materialism, gluttony and obsession with things that DO NOT MATTER. Kirby is over the target, the level of programming is profound. Nothing makes you understand how amazing it truly is to be American until you experience what life is like in another country. There are people who live in houses made from garbage that literally don't even have a toilet to shit in or a shower to clean themselves and Americans are like, "I need to make a Whole Foods order, I hope they're not out of my vanilla cashew milk and dairy-free ice cream this time". After my husband's deportation we lost everything, we were just getting by paying the bills here in Brazil. For over a year we didn't have a toilet seat at our house because, unlike America, the seat is considered a luxury. We always needed to spend the money elsewhere, like on food, so I just sucked it up. Maybe some time spent in a developing country would give people more gratitude for what they have been blessed with.

We were living in small town Wisconsin when the pandemic happened, and I gotta tell ya, it was lovely. You were allowed to live as you saw fit, but masking up was becoming a complaint. People who chose to stay home were allowed to become paranoid, but people who longed for community were still enjoying grocery shopping and meeting up. Our police would not waste time running around to say you can’t visit your parents, or stop someone who’s not masked, heck, we were allowed to have church services. Sure, not everyone takes care of their health, but we should be trusted to take care of ourselves.

Wow she’s so right. In fact I’ve been avoiding the news too. I do watch the news briefly and then I walk away. It’s propoganda like she says. It’s not going to make you happier. It will make you feel anxious and sad. We know what’s going on in the world. It’s sad and bad but I don’t need to hear about new variances of the virus every day etc etc. But yeah everything she said makes so much sense. Very interesting. Thanks.

I was talking with an older friend (almost 80) about the news… He made the point that when we were younger, we all got the same news. You might interpret it differently according to your political stance, but the news was basically the same. Now, “news” programs are tailored towards ratings, not informing, though I think the degree does vary. And equally importantly, holding onto those ratings. That means cultivating a public, cultivating their fears against the other and keeping them on your side. And that in turn means skewing the news in every way necessary to do that. Or in the case of at least one network, making it up all together (as they accuse another of doing that). And now that social media have become such a source of “news,” nothing is out of the question anymore. You can believe that the earth is flat, you can believe that queen Elizabeth is a lizard, or that Donald Trump has come to save children from evil Democrats who are raping and eating them and feeding their blood to Anderson Cooper, and you’ll find a whole mass of people willing to believe it and support you in that belief. Walk out on the street and you see a mass of people who don’t necessarily look all that different, but go inside their heads and you find multiple echo chambers. Put a few in a conversation and too often, you have a group of people screaming at each other with their fingers in their ears.

I think I'm done with the news too. There was a shooting in a massage parlor this week. Of course it was tragic; the shooter is a monster; and my prayers go out to the victims and their families. But even before all the facts were out... the news started this trope where America needs to stop being so anti-Asian. In fact, Congress is holding a hearing on this very issue. I'm sorry, what? One crazy loser in Texas goes on a shooting spree because he was double-charged for a rub and tug... and suddenly America has an Anti-Asian bias that needs to be addressed? It's like the media has this narrative that everything bad that happens to a minority in America has to have some racist motivation behind it. It's like they're intentionally trying to stir up anger and resentment along ethnic lines.

Wow this was refreshing. I found you through Loawhy86's channel and am so glad he told us about you. I'm an SF Bay Area native (I still live here, but moved North into the mountains), and I have gotten to a point where I don't even want to be around people anymore. Staying home and seeing the news or communicating only on social media has changed something in me. It's changing my world view and I realize this is not realistic. And now everything feels surreal and out of touch. You can't even smile at people at the store anymore. I used to love meeting random people like this, I'm also someone who likes to smile at people and have a conversation. Staying home has played a role, but so has wearing a mask it's not natural for us to live isolated and from any real life communication. We're social creatures and this is messing with us big time. And she is right, our country is spoiled and takes everything for granted. If people ever got a real taste of poverty or living in a country with no real civil rights they would be in shock. And would come back here with a new perspective based in reality, not manufactured propaganda that puts everyone into a state of crises.

I studied in SF in the 90s and had the best time of my life. Nobody had money, but we shared and had lots of party and enjoynment. 3 years ago I revisited SF from Berlin, Germany and felt already some weird depression and missed the free life I had lived. We used to meet in cafes and spend time with each other - 3 years ago almost everywhere I went, people were plugged in. How sad.

It is so easy to get SF to be one best cities in the world. 1. Getting rid of homelessness. Easy, build them a separate place and get professionals involved to care about those people. 2. Within LA city limits, the number of people experiencing homelessness is 41,290, a 14.2% increase over last year". Super tragic and at the seem time many move out of California like 135.000 in 2020.

@@marcopolo1134 what I don't like about the political left is the hypocrisy I often see. The people in California should help and house the homeless. With billionaire after billionaire they could easily come up with solutions, innovations for micro homes, street therapy, new jobs etc. If they are soo good and perfect they should turn their big bleeding heart towards the pain and suffering they see in the streets every day and do something about it. But it just tell us how they really are when faced with real life problems, they can't handle it and go to yoga class instead or make a Facebook group about saving homeless hamsters.
