In this video, you will see a tourist scam in Istanbul. It is based on my visit to famous tourist places in Istanbul like Taksim Square, Istiklal street and Sultan Ahmet. I visited there in September 2018. During my visit to the Istiklal street, I was approached by two people who pretended to be a tourist. Watch this video to know how did they approached me and tried to get friendly. They asked me to join for bear, which I refused. I was already warned about this by the staff at the hostel where I stayed. The same thing happened with me on the next day in Sultan Ahmet, another popular tourist place in Istanbul. Usually, these people target Solo tourists. After watching this video, I am sure you will come to know about Dos and Donts while travelling in Istanbul and how to handle such situations.

The same happened many times with me at Taksim in Istanbul. Random guys would come and say “Pakistan or Hindistan”!? And if I said Hindustan, they say “Delhi or Mumbai”!? Further, “Old or New Delhi” they try to show that they are really friendly with your place and ask you to come with them for drinks, I was smart enough to refuse them all the time. But, I had a female chinese friend, she was approached by a Turkish guy who asked her to come to his place where he has beautiful collection of Turkish souvenirs, and she went with him! When she reached his place, she didn’t see any souvenirs but found the guys uncle at his place who asked her to dance with them. She quickly called us and shared her location (We were 6 friends from different countries staying together in Sultanahmet locality). I and an Egyptian friend quickly went there to rescue her in time. Also, another traveller that i met in Istanbul told me that he was approached by a beautiful Turkish girl at a bar to buy her a drink, when he said no money, she asked him to withdraw from the ATM and he said OK, then went to the ATM together and suddenly 2 big guys joined them and asked him to take all he money he could from the ATM (it was 1 am they were the only ones on that street) and the guy eventually lost around 5,000 USD. Turkey is a beautiful country full of amazing people but there are bad people everywhere in the world, and you would find them in Istanbul mostly if youre in Turkey. Turkey is so good that even after all these experiences, it is still my favourite county out of the 15 that I have travelled!

Passenger Paramvir your friends are very naive. In this day and age why would you go somebody's house you've just met. Sorry for the other one who lost $5000. I hope he reported this scam to the police. Never, never lower your guards at any time.

First of all , there cant be a turkish guy taking a girl into a place and tell her to dance for her uncle as its absurd but if it really happened I apologize for the incident , as for your second experience it's impossible to withdraw such amount in turkey from atm even my business card allows me 2000 usd max. Daily , incidents happen and scammers everywhere but your experiences has no logic .. sorry

No beradar, as a Bangladeshi tourist in Istanbul, I met a similar scammer my first night there. But I met a lot more good hearted people than scammers and thats what matters the most. We Bangladeshis love our Turkish brothers and Sisters, hosgeldiniz

I like the way he handled the second guy. You could tell he was running a scam because he asked the vlogger to turn off his camera. People who want to visit Istanbul should watch this video. Its very informative and could save tourist from being taken advantage of.

Thanks Varun your vedio really saved me. I was in Istanbul from 20-22 Dec. On 21st night I was roaming in Takshim square, approached by 2 different guys within 30 mins. They tried to start the conversation by random excuses like asking for a lighter or for some location. Then the same scripted question started like your country, stay in Istanbul etc. I would have fallen for their trap had it not been for your video.

यह जानते हुए की सामनेवाला गलत बंदा है फिर भी उसके साथ सामान्य व्यवहार करने के लिए, वह भी रात के समय और खाली सड़क पर, जिगर चाहिये जो आपके पास दिखाई दिया. मै तो "No English, only Hindi" वाली trick यूज़ करके उससे दूर जाने की कोशिश करता. पर आप तो उसके साथ ऎसे पेश आए जैसे ठग से महाठग.. 😀😀 (Please don't take it otherwise.) 16:43 I had the exact same interaction with the exact same guy when I was in Istanbul on August 28th. His script was exact. The only difference was that when he talked about his hotel he pulled out his wallet and showed me a Hilton room key.

I watch turkish dramas here in Canada with English subtitles and told a friend I wanted to visit such a beautiful place people look relaxed the chai, the sea the sunny warm weather all so perfect in turkey. Suddenly all these videos started popping up on KZfaq on my phone haha....this was another side of turkey that I needed to be aware of before visiting (:-))

Very nice video... Specially towards the end where you exposed the man's scam with the lure of entertainment,etc. And obviously he wanted you to switch off your camera for obvious reasons. Very informative ... Very much appreciated ...

I was in Istambul on April 2023 and i have met this scammer (minute 17´). He told me the same story. We went to this bar and as soon as i see that he ordered 2 bottle of champaign, i left inmediatly the bar...he stayed alone with the ladys and with his champaign....thank you for sharing this real information !

উনি আমাদের দেশে এসেছিলেন এবং শেষ পর্যায়ে খুব বাজে একটা অভিজ্ঞতা হয়েছিল উনার। সেটার জন্য আমি ওই ভিডিওর কমেন্টে পুরো বাংলাদেশের পক্ষ থেকে আমি নিজে ক্ষমা চেয়েছিলাম। আমি বলতে চেয়েছিলাম এবং এখনো বলতে চাই যে, সব দেশেই ভালো খারাপ আছে। তা দিয়ে পুরো দেশ বিচার করলে চলবে না। আমি জেনে আনন্দিত হয়েছিলাম যে, বরুন স্যার সেই ঘটনা দিয়ে পুরো বাংলাদেশকে বিচার করেন নি ।

I am from Ukraine . Recently came back from Istanbul . The only thing I didn't like is a great addiction of many Turks to money. But what I really like is their fresh pomegranade juice and fried fish at the embankment. Streets are very cosy as well

it is true. Turkish people like to get your money but they do this with legal way. they want to either sell you something or they want to legally scum you. you will think that are you stupid? what is a legal scam? like these 2 guys were trying to do and will do finally is a legal scam. Look they are just nice with you and they offer you kindly, nobody force you anything, you go, do and get in trap yourself. you get a high bill because it is what is written on the menu but you didnt read it!. This is what happened us in Germany also and we complained to police, they told us, nobody force you and you didnt read it. So what i mean is that you just need to be smart and open-eye. I have been in many countries including Ukraine, there you get forced physically. worse one is Italy, i almost beat a guy holding my gfs arm forcely.

I also went to Istanbul solo last month and I was approached by a guy from Cyprus. He seemed very friendly and asked me to join drink with him around 8pm at Taksim Square. I did not want any trouble even though he seemed to be a very nice person. I told him I was very tired and want to go back to my hotel and sleep. He told me he will wait for me next day same time at Taksim Square. I never went back at 8pm. Thanks god I did not join him. The baldy guy looked very similar to the one who approached me.

I had similar experience in Taksim square .Luckily I managed to avoid getting cheated.Common ploy .This was more than 10years ago.

Do not thrust too much anyone in any country, (especially random peoples approaching towards you) do not enter any place that looks like an underground hole and could not see inside from outside. Istanbul is a metropole there is people from every country around the world. Safe journey.

Just came back from Istanbul last week, same street as shown in this video there were 4 times different scammers tried to approached me along this street. I just told them in their face “ leave me alone” .. and they just left with frown face. Too many scammers with many police surround them

This guy that stopped you did the same approach to another guy that was scammed. It was very clever of you to be aware of these type of people. I’m a world traveler and as a woman I had to be very careful because of all theses low minded scammers.
