I built a blind similar to this couple yrs ago . Prefabbed it and disassembled it . Dragged every pc of it back into the woods with 4 wheeler. Took me 3 days to get it back up . The first hunt out of it was youth season with my 6yr old son . He got his first, a doe that morning. I told the wife if that was the only deer taken from that stand it was worth every dollar. Sweat, labor ect that was put into it just to share have been there and share that experience with him . Happy Hunting

@@metaspencer The last one I built I put black carpet on the walls and got a sheet of like 1/4" rubber matting for the floor. It really cut down on noise, plus helped to insulate it a bit as I had plexiglass windows I could close. Like yours, mine is elevated so I drilled a hole in the floor under the front window and ran a hose up from a BBQ grill propane tank to a heater. Coupled with some biscuits, a thermos if hot coffee, & a book. .nothing better. LOL. It even has a solar powered lite in it. :)

You were parked so far you should've spent your time building a bridge instead ☺ A few questions though. Why were your bottom support cross beams not square? And how do you decide when to hammer and when to drill? Also, it's funny how you have to use leverage and supports when working alone--I do the same thing.
@metaspencer
@metaspencer 5 жыл бұрын
A bridge! Seriously, that was a long way to haul stuff ... As for supports not being square, really? Now, keep in mind that this entire thing is build out in the bush and on very uneven ground, so I suppose it’s possible ... but with that said, the structure is pretty level and square (by my estimation). Now, as for nails vs screws: the general thinking there is that nails are used for load-bearing connections, so if you never have load on a fastener you want a nail, not a screw. This is because nails are not hardened; screws are hardened, making them more brittle. But with all that said, on a build like this one, I had to use screws in some instances where I would have used nails but just couldn’t ... usually due to awkward angles and whatnot. I’m pretty comfortable with the large deck screws I was using, as the fact that they pull things together adds a good deal of FRICTION which also bears load. Another nice thing about screws: you can get them out if you need to. Anyway, thanks for checking it out!
@denisenj7648
@denisenj7648 5 жыл бұрын
@@metaspencer The whole thing is square and level but the beams that make an x on the base are higher on the right than on the left, like if the upper right side of the x is a foot from the paltform and the upper left side of the x is a foot and a half away? Like if the X isn't right angles? I could be wrong or it might not matter, but thought I'd ask. The distance from the truck to the work site would\ve been a deal breaker for me. Kudos!

Not sure of the brand, but I swear I’ve seen some of those trailer set ups that are less than a $1000.00. What state are you in? Envious of the farm your able to hunt. I hunt out here in Michigan state land. I imagine when your done it’d be nice to sit in their with a heater watching them and popping a nice one.
