The stehl was great. Definitely no regrets. Towed well and never had any issues. Only "negative" is that it can't tip up so it does take up quite a bit of space but it was never an issue for us.

@theaustinwilt we ended up with the master tow. we have put over 2000 miles on the dolly so far. Not too crazy about the cheap Chinese tires, but so far they are doing good. Put a TPMS system on them and keep them properly inflated. Got a video out of my trying to use it for the first time. Stop by if you want a laugh 😃

We use levelers to make the transition smooth from the ramp of the dolly to the ground. You could also use wood 2x4 scraps or something of that nature. Makes the incline less "harsh"

I have a Honda Fit and it would not clear without my placing a 2x4 under each of the ramps so that the angle was diminished. There are other YT videos that demonstrate this. Ideally you want to create two additional "ramps" by attaching a 12" 2x4 to a 24" 2x4 and place the elevated part under the ramp. Drive your car onto the longer board and subsequently onto the shorter, which leads to the ramp.

Yeah we don't lock the steering wheel. Our dolly pivots so haven't had a need to lock wheel.

It's not too bad. Just take it slow and swing wide. RV is 28' long. I try to stick to Pilot's and Flying J's or any other truck stop. Any gas station that can accommodate big rigs coming in should be pretty easy to get in with an RV as well. Gotta be careful when pulling forward because you cant back up with a tow dolly so don't want to overshoot the pump haha.

I did not. Depends on your make and model of car but neutral was fine for us. Your manual should say what you need to do for your car.

I think the dolly was around $2400 with a spare tire. It's a new 2021 Stehl tow dolly with surge brakes. I personally wanted the surge brakes because its a lot less maintenance and you don't have to mess with an electronic controller. Ramps hit the ground fine when on level surface. I use plastic shims used to level the RV to help make the gap between the ground and the edge of the ramp less aggressive for the car. I've heard removable ramps are really good for storing. These don't remove and therefore it is a little more bulky when storing but I find them to be really sturdy and I like the design. Easy to move around by myself.

Definitely check with the states you are driving through. I'm not sure on something like that. I know in MO, KS, and CO you don't need to have the actual tow dolly registered. Those states consider a tow dolly an extension of whatever vehicle is doing the towing. Both the tow vehicle and the vehicle being towed need to be registered though. I would imagine if the temporary tags are still valid you would be fine but I would check with local laws to verify.

When you turn sharp with the car dolly does the swivel pan have a stopper? If I make to tight of a turn the pan tweaks and pops over the stop plate does yours do that?

I haven't noticed mine doing that. I do know when you turn tight you can run into problems on most tow dollys. I try to keep it pretty wide when possible. I've been pretty impressed with the Stehl tow dolly thus far. About to take another trip in a few weeks so I will keep an eye out for what you are saying and let you know if I notice it doing anything funny.

@@rongoodspeed9028 my Master Tow has sturdy stops. Might want to check your center bolt adjustment in the swivel pan. If the pan turns too far, you could do major damage to both the car you're towing and the dolly.

I sold the dolly unfortunately so I don't know the size. When I bought the dolly the wrench came with it.

I just had to solve this problem this morning. I bought a Kobalt sliding/adjustable wrench that locks into place because I didn't know what I needed to buy. You could also buy some vice grips. Good luck.
