Couple corrections. The tow package does include a wiring harness for installation of hard wired trailer brake controller. The wires are located near where your left foot sits when driving, you can do a quick search online for pics and details on where those wires are. Get yourself a good quality proportional trailer brake controller for the safety of your family. That way it's hard wired, you never have to worry about lost signals, it's really easy to manually engage the trailer brakes if it starts to sway on you, and the progressive type controller ensures smooth braking in all conditions. Also, the drive mode with mountains is not for driving in the mountains but when doing light offroading, like going down a fire road. It changes the power distribution in the all wheel drive system and sensitivity of the accelerator, may also do stuff with the transmission shift points but I'm not sure about that one.

Have you Tried the Wireless brake controllers? I hear god things about it. The only down fall to would be not having the brake button available the moment you need it, but I like his spare phone idea that's always on. I hope they make a unit that can be controlled by phone or a controller plugged into power for easy storage.

I always want something with an easy to grab trailer brake slider. If that thing starts to sway, you won’t have time to think beyond one easy motion. It’s about safety and your family is worth a few hundred dollars.

Squat looks minimal, and its probably even less in the FWD version of the vehicle since you dimp a lot of weight from not have the AWD components in the rear. Canam RV in Canada has been outfitting the Buick Enclaves and their cousins (Traverse and Acadia) since they came out in 2007 and they are one of the most reliable TVs they set up. Good wheelbase, short rear overhang, good power, etc... one main downside is the small gas tank, so frequent fueling.... They do reinforce the hitch by welding in some strut braces, and switch out the soft sidewall tires for proper truck tires with stiff sidewalls.

A great GM product in a SUV. Yet sadly they don't include a intergraded brake controller. Even dough they sell you a tow package. We tow distance 4 to 5 times a year 1,950 plus miles round trip. So wanted a Truck regardless. Today with fuel cost. I work on keeping the TT lite. Cannot drive distance at 55 that would mean to much time on the road. We tow at 64-72 mph but avg 68 mph. And still manage in normal conditions 10.5-11.2 MPG's So i tow with one LP tank & one battery. Our TT is a 19Bhle Surveyor Legend 2021.5. Forest River. Solar package with The 7 pin connection keeps fridge working the entire trip. Was going to upgrade to a larger Model. But this recent trip fuel cost was $505.00 for 2,010 towing miles round trip. How sad, fuel cost should be lower, I dabble in commodities. We will see higher prices.

With no delays, the travel time difference of a 1000 mile trip - between 70mph (14.2 hours) and 55mph (18.1 hours) - is less than 4 hours. With all the traffic delays and construction issues on the roads USA you can’t average anywhere near 70mph - so the end result is you probably won’t ever see anything close to the 3.9 hour difference. All you will be doing is accellerating and braking a lot more - and getting stressed. Just the facts - from a lifelong trucker (my uncle).

We towed with our Traverse for the first 2 years/seasons and put about 4000 miles on it while towing. We didn't have any issues with it. We bought a truck in 2022. We still have the Traverse and would tow with it but we almost always use the truck now.

Have you had a chance to weight the tongue after you are fully loaded? Our SUV can handle 500lb tongue with 5000lb towing, and I have read that people are saying with the WDH, water and propane that you will be at 580lb on the tongue...(though no one has ever done or shown the tongue weight) - we want this trailer just not sure if it will kill our SUV...any thoughts of doing a video on tongue weight?!? - if so that would be AWESOME!!!!!
@thedroesslers
@thedroesslers 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry Mike, I have not. We very rarely tow with our water tank full and our tongue can handle 600lbs. Maybe you could work with an RV dealer to figure this out. It is unlikely I would do a video on this any time soon.

Not sure if the link below will work or not, but it only differentiates based on the engine for the Traverse. If I am reading it correctly, the 3.6L V6 engines can tow up to 5,000 lbs and the 2.0L 4-cylinder is limited to 1500. www.chevrolet.com/content/dam/chevrolet/na/us/english/index/shopping-tools/download-catalog/02-pdf/2019-chevrolet-trailering-guide.pdf

We do have trailer insurance. It is a large enough purchase that I feel better having it. I just contacted our insurance agent and he gave us a quote and explained what it covered. I don't remember all the details but it was pretty inexpensive compared to our existing policies. We have not looked into Good Sam Club or anything like that yet.

Hello. What is the gross weight for the camper? I have the same year and model Traverse as you and I’m trying to make sure I get the right camper. Thanks in advance!
@thedroesslers
@thedroesslers Жыл бұрын
The dry camper weight is around 3500 lbs. I believe it has a carrying capacity of 800 lbs. We have the factory installed towing package on our Traverse so it can tow up to 5200 lbs. Our Traverse handled our camper pretty well (we always took it easy when towing and didn't push it too hard), but we did upgrade our tow vehicle last year to a truck.

Nice video ! 1 question ; What’s your oil temp, trans temp, while towing ? Thanks, peacefrom510
@thedroesslers
@thedroesslers 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I do keep an eye on the temperature gauge (Engine) that is on the dashboard. Even on our longest trip (3 hours) it never went past the halfway mark between Cold and Hot. I assume the heavy duty engine cooling system that is part of the trailering package helps with that. You can get to the transmission fluid temperature on the digital display but I have not tracked that at all. I saw your comment earlier so I checked it on our way home tonight but it was only a 1/2 hour drive on the highway. It got up to 221 degrees. I'll let you know in a couples weeks on a bit longer trip if it is much higher than that.
@bt4b4
@bt4b4 4 жыл бұрын
thedroesslers nice thanks for the info. 221 while driving flat ? I’m asking because I would love to compare your SUV to mine, a Subaru Ascent with tow package. I tow a small travel trailer 4200lb total. I have a 4cly turbo. My oil temp will stay at around 225 on flat tows. Up mts driving 45mpg it will go up to 240. I have a transmission cooler, just debating if I need a oil cooker as well. Thanks for any info. Peacefrom510 .
@thedroesslers
@thedroesslers 4 жыл бұрын
Actually the drive was a bit hilly not just flat. I was curious so I googled where you want the temp to be and it sounds like around 200 is ideal but 220 is common while towing. I am going to keep a closer eye on this in the future.

Hi thanks for your video. I have a 2018 Traverse with V92 trailing package. Our family of four made a purchase order for Apex Nano 194 BHS tt (which has 4800 lbs of wet weight and 3600 lbs of dry weight). But in the last few days, we went through several towing capacity calculations and it scared us off to think maybe we are going over the limits of our vehicle. If I don't add any aftermarket items (which I don't mind adding if needed) but with the factory trailing package, do you think our vehicle should be able to handle the trailer? Also have you traveled with full liquids in the trailer or you always make sure to empty the liquids?
@thedroesslers
@thedroesslers 2 жыл бұрын
We travel with empty liquids. Filling up the fresh water tank adds a ton of weight to the trailer. We empty our gray/black tanks when leaving the campground. We don't really do any boondocking so this works for us. I don't know for sure how well your tow vehicle will handle your camper. That camper is slightly heavier than ours but not significantly. I trusted our RV dealer's advice when deciding on our camper so maybe you could check with yours.

@thedroesslers

We travel with 2 adults and 2 kids. There isn't anything else we specifically do to lower our payload. I would suggest packing lightly and evening out what you pack between the camper and your tow vehicle.

@thedroesslers

I am not sure exactly what you are asking, but I can cover a few options that I remember. You can set up multiple profiles so that you can have settings different per trailer. The main settings I remember is the strength (max output) and the sensitivity. The other thing I remember is that it was hard to sync it with my phone and it ended up being that I needed to allow the app to access location services (no idea why it would need that). I hope that helps.

Do you have the factory installed tow package and a tow mode? If so, probably around 5000 lbs. It would be best if you confirm with your dealer. Our 2019 Traverse with tow package/mode can tow up to 5200 lbs. Part of the tow package includes a heavy-duty cooling system which is essential to prevent the vehicle from overheating when towing.

When I put the hitch and brake control unit on ours it was pre wired from the back all the way to the front . Had to splice the brake control unit onto the wires in the front. The only issue we had is there is a fuse box in the trunk on the side; and it was missing a 30A fuse to power the brake control unit. We got the curt brake controller that you can mount any orientation. It’s a round turn dial not a big rectangular unit. It’s a little more expensive but works great!
