Imo, part of the reason episode 1 was so good is because Danai, Andrew and Scott wrote it. The weaker episodes were written by other people. Moral of the story, Danai and/or Andrew should always be head writers.

Don't forget, Michonne was very vulnerable in the honeymoon episode after she thought he was eaten by walkers.

Thank you for your analysis and FACTS on Lori.. A lot of people forget that! They clearly grew apart and the apocalypse made it worse. Rick is loyal maybe even to a fault (at times). The love between Rick and Michonne is powerful and it was shown throughout every episode in TOWL.

I actually liked how they didn't flesh out the character of General Bealle too much because it made him seem mysterious and made me even more scared cause I didn't know who I was dealing with. But everything else y'all talked about were on point! Great Job with this review....And it's just too sad that we don't know if we can ever have more meaningful conversations like this in the future because we don't know if that was really THE LAST TIME we can ever have Richonne content. It's not fair that the other TWD spin offs can get a 2nd season but the EPIC MASTERPIECE of TOWL doesn't. IT's NOT FAIR!!!! IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!!!

Def see your point on Bealle not being seen too much adding to his mystery. Remaining hopeful about the 2nd season thing, or at least another shot at drawing focus when all is said and done, since TWD (IMO) still remains Rick's story.

I thought the same about the Scott/Chandler debacle so thanks for that. But this story, the story of Richonne has brought out the writer in me that I never thought was part of me. This show should be a case study for all future writers and I hope that Danai, Andy and Scott get their flowers... finally. Thank y'all so much for sharing a review that was fact based on the actual characters and not just wishful dreaming. Oh, and as far as Beale, don't forget he told Rick that his story had become known and basically he became a legend (I'm paraphrasing) amongst the CRM. So if the great Rick Grimes stopped the top brass, there has got to be a good goddamn reason for him to do it. Only thing, I wish they had time to show us that but I am satisfied with everything they gave us.

This channel was one of my favorite reaction channels for thisbshow. I agree with your episode ranknings/scene rankings. Promise of the Premise: it is almost like some people didn't watch a single interview or press release, because the Andy, Danai, and Gimple delivered on exactly what they promised, Richonne's epic love story. Also, people upset about the humanity of the show, have missed the entire point of TWDU. It's not about killing, surviving, or even zombies. It's about hanging onto what it means to be alive, what it means to be human, despite having to survive in this new, dangerous world. That has been THE central theme TWDU. If there is no human connection, love, or hope then what separates the living from The Walkkng Dead. It's literally the point of the show. There are some dark horror fans who only want the death and destruction piece. I stumbled onto a video around episode 4 that hoped the end of the season would bring Michonne's death AND the annialation of Alexandria/Commonwealth by the CRM, and I thought, man these people are watching a completely different show than what is presented. They'll always be disappointed because they don't understand the premise.

4,1, 2, 6, 3, 5 is my current ranking. The writing, dialogue, and pacing in the last two episodes were just not as great as the previous 4 imo. The opening and final scene saved episode 6 for me. This was a great review of the series and y'all have a great back and forth that's great to listen to. Thanks for this!

I just came across your reaction video today, and absolutely LOVED it. I like your energy and how well you explain your points. I agreed with everything you guys said, including some views that I changed my mind over. Other than wanting to see more of Terry O'Quinn (I love his acting), I too had felt that the CRM wrapped up too quickly and too conveniently, but I get your points about Richonne's unstoppable capabilities. I would now love to see how the Grimes family dynamics play out, given how long Rick was away, and of course, I would love to see the rest of the TWD family having their reunion (especially Rick, Darryl, and Morgan) and "breathing the same air" as Andy described it.

"Men Lie, Women Lie... Numbers don't" I think they will relaunch the Mothership under TOWL. I see Rick and Michonne as the new George and Martha of the New World. It’s all about equity for Andy and Danai. They have paid their dues on this show but everyone else has benefited. Finally in season 8 Andy renegotiated his contract bringing him 1M per episode (but so did Norman) Andy only got PAID for 1.5 seasons whereas Norman collected this amount for 4 seasons. A show that was built off the back of Andy… and like we all said Daryl and without Rick could not support the show. However, there is NO WHERE Andy or Danai can walk in and get a premium per episode, executive produce (residuals up the yen yang for LIFE), story creatives (the ultimate plot armor and not being scripted to be branded and killing kids at 7 months pregnant) and in Danai’s case writing credits. It would be insane to walk away from all of this equity. I think they played it right by ending this storyline (however there are hundreds more). So Now they can negotiate for a fresh slate after the glowing reviews. … I would like to see TOWL increase to 12-16 episodes and have Daryl Dixon and Dead City stay separate but coordinated with the Mothership for now. Under TOWL I would like to see Alexandria (which I think AMC gave up the lease), Hilltop, Oceanside, Commonwealth, World Beyond and Michonne settling the Caravan people (a cross country move to Greenwood and the Casscades perhaps ) Even three more years would set them up for residuals for life.

I love this analysis and agree about the equity piece. Andy was owed much more for way longer, and as much as I love Daryl and Reedus, he should notbhave been compensated the same as Andy at any point during the main show. Danai with producer and creator credits can finally earn money that's worth her time because her career is at it's peak right now. "shields against being scripted to be branded and killing kids at 7 months pregnant." I absolutely hated that episode. TWD has always handled Michonne with a gross level of brutality when compared to other women characters on the show, and that episode was the absolute worst. Then, they made her out to be the "bad guy" when she closed Alexandria's doors for protection following that horrific experience. If I were Danai, I would only stay on if I remained a producer/writer to guard against that nonsense.

There looks like there could be a 2nd season. However, the love story is complete, the new one will be another chapter in Rick and Michonne journey, this time with their family. It may or may not have information in regards to the CRM spies, in the different communities. Now that they have established how much Rick and Michonne love each other. Those that tried to ignore it on the main show can no longer do so. That is why, they can move on with a TOWL S2 with a completely new chapter. In terms of why Beale thought Rick had leadership potential is because everyone thought he was dead, yet he came back. What Beale didn't know was Michonne was also alive and they had a plan. I have been pointing this out since I watched E3. Michonne was the strongest. That is why Thorne resented her. She kept telling Rick that Dana was too strong. I also said that it was Beale who gave Thorne the order to take her on that mission, because everything about Thorne told me she never wanted Dana there. The only problem, is that Beale never confirmed this because he had no need to speak about Michonne since he thought she was dead. Therefore he could only address Rick about his potential. But in E3, Michonne was established as the strongest even better then Rick. After she broke his kill record. then achieved the impossible. After only being a consignee for a very short time (days) it is Dana aka Michonne who is picked from over 17k consignees to go on this mission. Thorne gave her a similar speech to what she and later Rick received in the Echelon Brief, and the out come would have been the same. The reason Thorne had her hand on the knife behind her back if Dana had said no she would have been killed. Just as Beale would have done to either Thorne or Rick had they not agreed with the Echelon Brief. They would have been killed with his sword. Remember, it was the actions taken by Dana/Michonne that ensured the success at Cascadia Base in the Cascades. The one that Thorne took credit for. Beale would have been impressed and so would Okafor. Michonne was the type of A he was looking for. She thought outside the box. Saw that Thorne had lost command of the mission and broke protocol to take the RDIM through the breech, and the 100 yards needed to set off the explosion, Rick also broke protocol to help her.

Yep, that's apparent to us and we agree 💯. There's so many things we had to edit out of this discussion lest it be too long, but we are considering a more in depth breakdown and analysis in podcast form ... because, while you would think that acknowledging Michonne as a necessary strength that makes Rick better in every way, the very beat of his heart, there are definitely those out there who still refuse to acknowledge her as such or even count her among the most important to any future the franchise may have. There are people out there still stuck on Negan for example. As if he means anything to Rick. So there's still so much to say, to lay out but you're right on the money with this. And those of us who know, know.

@@kendraswatchlist Edit: I just rewatched episode 5 and have to revise my ranking. It was really good. I have to rank it tied with my number 2s above (Lol its hard to rank them - Love the more time with Richonne, Michonne taking the food back, Rick showing his romantic side in the apocalypse - he finally learned to express himself in that way, a way he either wouldn't or couldn't express himself with Lori before the apocalypse began, how they managed to make you feel something about Jadis death through feeling something for Gabriel - she still had to die because she was awful, World Beyond showed she needed to go because she was signing on to and carrying out awful things...plus she just tried to kill Richonne- she had to die lol).

Lol. I love your second favorite scenes are "all of episode 4". That script should be studied in film school. Danai said they even had to cut like 10-20 minutes in editing, I would love to see a full, uncut version of that episode. It was a masterclass in writing and acting. I agree, it's so hard to rank the episodes. I just loved this season, and I don't think there was a "bad" episode, which is why I like your 2 tiered rankning, but I would put episode 4 in a class of its own, because I think that episode was the best of TWDU, and I'm currently rewatching the main show (4th or 5th rewatch at this point) to confirm. 😂
@awake3607
@awake3607 4 ай бұрын
@chanellcarter8939 Yes a master class indeed on that episode. Episode 4 does stand alone. Even though I tied it with others, I listed it first in that tier but I did say (to myself) if I had to choose between those, it would be number 1 on its own tier. I would probably put episode 5 as number 2 because even though I ranked episode 1 as my second favorite, I waiver there because episode 1 seemed to imply Rick did not come up with the idea to finally join the CRM to then be able to escape and the attempt where he cut off his hand felt more like at this point he was so desperate he was attempting to unalive himself before the attempt in the room (instead of scaping). Yes the problem I had with ranking is that I think they are all good (it was hard to pick a bottom).

They didn’t have one conversation about the Whisperer war, the hardships back home. It would have been very cool to see Rick absorb it. To learn that Negan had been let out and redeemed a bit?! Rick didn’t ask who had died back home…a very strange thing to me since he should clearly care to know. Bad, bad, mind blank writing there.
@DiaryofaBasicBW
@DiaryofaBasicBW 4 ай бұрын
We don't know what was left on the cutting room floor. A 60 page script is often cut down to a 45 minute episode during production, or things that were filmed are cut out during the post/editing process. I wouldn't say that's bad writing, since we don't know the changes made during the process, I will say the emphasis was always going to be on Rick's love and concern for his wife ad kids first, and above all. It may disappoint some fans, but as we said, from Episode One of the main TWD show, Rick has always been mostly concerned with his wife and kid. So, for us that tracks. Michonne wasn't there for Negan's so called redemption, and we maintain that Rick would care less about that than the well being of his children.
@naturestillness
@naturestillness 4 ай бұрын
@@DiaryofaBasicBW Umm, Michonne thanked Negan for finding Judith in a sticky situation. She was well on her way to seeing him…differently before she departed. Yeah that’s bad writing. For Rick not to ask about Daryl, or Maggie or Carol or anyone else. That’s something fans wanted to hear and see how he absorbed and digested things that happened in his absence. That’s dialogue that is not time consuming in relation to expensive, extended scenes of escaping collapsing buildings and such. It fails to account for obvious things that Rick WOULD care about and care about to say and ask. To not ask these things makes us see him as less empathetic in his core than we remember. And less…thinking of others in general. It makes the original TWD saga feel cardboard thin, instead of an incredibly earned life full of people he cares about.

@naturestillness if you know better write a spec script send it in and get it produced. As we said, the team behind TOWL were specific about what this mini series was about. Rick and Michonne. And you have no idea what they left on the cutting room floor. And Rick's main motivation is his immediate family. Doesn't mean he doesn't care about others. Negan? Michonne thanked him but she doesn't care if he lives or dies. Neither does Rick. Bad writing. OK. I want to read your script. I want to see your TV show. Since you know all about bad vs. good writing.

@@naturestillness This is an epic love story between Rick and Michonne. Pretty much most of everyone else were going to be secondary thoughts. When Rick and Michonne first reunited he asked how Judith was, is she ok. He would asked about RJ but he didn't know he had another son. You really think Daryl, Maggie and Carol were going to be his first thoughts? No it would be your child, your kids are the most important thing in your life when you're a parent. I wouldn't ask how anyone else is besides my kids. That is not bad writing at all. Your kids come first over anything, number one priority.
@naturestillness
@naturestillness 4 ай бұрын
@@Godlovesus78 Well not his first…but his second and third thought? That would take all of 10-30 seconds of additional dialogue in just that moment alone. I don’t know exactly why you would defend such an obvious exclusion of what obviously should have been included. It’s autistic story writing with zero awareness of how a person would be and act in such profound moments. That moment of cascading, long held back fear that would arrive when Rick is finally able to ask, so unexpectedly, how everyone is. When so many friends have died along the way.
