Fantastic work! I just really wonder which brush is that long one that makes those wonderful dark lines...I have never seen that kind of brush...anyone has got a clue??

John does not follow a formula such as light areas first. What you see is the way the actually paints. You don't see paper being damped because he doesn't do that. You seem to be expecting a range of things he doesn't do. What you see is the way he actually paints - immediate and instinctive. Similarly John does not usually include figures in his landscapes. That, again, is the way he paints and his choice as an artist.
