Maaan this is so accurate. I had been freelancing on the side for myself for about 5 years. Then decided to join an ad agency a year ago….and I am truly beginning to hate it. You have no creative control, no life, really no recognition, etc. It’s a great learning experience and it’ll look good on your resume, however, I would suggest remaining a freelancer and working for yourself

In my experience same. Now some people telling Ai will do everything no need designer some thing like that. Without knowing any details some people judging. The don't give values to design & designer

As a junior designer working in a shitty ad agency, I can't explain how true all this is.

Been there done that. I start my career in advertising agency as a Junior Graphic Designer, moved around several agencies and finally resigned on my 5th year as a Senior Art Director. I'd say it's a mix between good and bad experiences just like any other job, there's lot of fun but certainly a good sleep is a rarity due to the unhealthy work hours (not all agencies are like this, but mostly are). Now i couldn't be more happier selling my own art & design stuff offline & online for a living and being able to do stuff like taking my daughter to the park on a weekday 😊. If you're a graphic designer that just starting at an ad agency, my advice are absorb every experiences, good or bad (there's gonna be a lot bad times i assure you) but it's important for your growth, networking & your design skills obviously, but there's gonna be a time when you have to decide what's your life priority. 🍻

Good to hear and happy for you. On the other hand the point of my videos about this topic is to show people that there is another way. I never worked more than a few weeks in agencies and I managed to make it to the top without the suffering. Design studios and in-house brands are the way to go and build a nice portfolio, agencies work is usually more mediocre because its not about design rather about advertising ; )

@@designthescenes I agree with you, in-house and design studios provide more room for design exploration compared to advertising agencies, especially in my personal experience of today's era where many digital advertising agencies are mainly focused on satisfying the client's need for quantity of content, with graphic design output often not being very important. Anyway thanks for your content! Really informative & enjoyable.

Ad / Marketing agencies suck. The creative they do is very very mediocre and the people that work there are just mac monkeys pushing pixels and re sizing things all day. The "Creative" Directors aren't creative at all, they are English and Philosophy majors who don't have a clue what's creative. These places will suck all creativity out of your soul and make you hate design.

Decided to switch career directions (after a series of dead ends to get into my actual field) and will be starting an associates in "advertising design" next week. I'm glad I found your video because I really have no idea what I'm getting into work wise.

yes a design studio is the best way to develop yourself and your craft, as long as the studio is good
