My kids have a new toy they love, but it's incredibly loud with no way to turn it down. Watch to see how adding a simple resistor can turn down the volume.

I've just done this with three of my child's toys and am about to take apart a giant ride on car to do the same (the integrated stereo is way too loud). thanks so much for this easy-to-follow tutorial!

Thanks for the tip on the resistor value. I used an 82ohm and it worked out very well on an RC car. My son was very happy with the outcome. Tape on the speaker holes, which typically works well, wasn't working for this particular vehicle.

Great use of simple energy laws! Loved the idea (Y)

You can adjust the volume up and down with the turn of a knob If you wire a potentiometer (variable resistor) to a toy speaker.

Thank you soo much. This will save us, our neighbors and my nephew too. ❤️👍😁

I just open the toy and put tape over the speaker, but this is a better idea.

In the sense of heat shrink tube I always just put a bigger sleeve over the entire resistor

Could you take out the internal workings and mount it to a bicycle like a horn?

Hi it was so usefull, but in other cases how would i know wich value of ohms to choose?

Had some fun hacking my kids' toys, and doing some voiceover on my latest project video.

Hi, if I want to lower the sound more what kind of resistor I can put? can I uses 330 ohm ones?

How do I disconnect sound completely? I have a Halloween motion sensor pumpkin that lights up. It makes creepy noises constantly and I really just want it to glow.

The easiest thing to do is locate the speaker and cut the wires to that speaker. It's usually just two wires and they can be easily clipped, and the rest of the device will work just fine. I would maybe put some electrical tape over the ends of those cut wires just to make sure they don't accidentally touch something else inside and cause potential electrical problems.

Thank you! I figured electrical tape would work. Wanted to make sure just in case
@BenBrandt223 жыл бұрын
@@paulmyers9599 yes. Generally speaking when you clip a wire there's almost no exposed metal except a tiny dot on the end, and there's very little chance it will touch anything. But a little electrical tape or something to cover that up will eliminate that chance. Alternatively you can also follow those wires back to the circuit board and just cut them off where they connect to the board, thus no more loose wires, and then you're guaranteed no problems.

Find the speaker holes on the casing and take a steak knife jam the steak knife as hard as you can into the speaker slots

What would you recommend to lower the volume of a toy emitting noise for longer than a few seconds at the time, say, a damn Furby?
@BenBrandt226 жыл бұрын
I would guess that a similar method might work (adding a resistor to one of the speaker connections). Most volume control knobs are just variable resistors (potentiometers), so it's basically the same thing from an electrical perspective.

What if I don’t want noise at all ?! Just solider both wires together ?!
@BenBrandt22 Жыл бұрын
Just cut one or both wires going to the speaker :-)

I put tape on the loudspeaker grill. Thats it.

Can't argue with results! 🙂

did that too but its still too loud but it reduces the volume though
