Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue (also known as Disney Pixar's Action Game: Toy Story 2) is a platform game based on Pixar's computer animated movie Toy Story 2 and is the sequel to the first Toy Story video game. It was released for the Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Dreamcast, and Microsoft Windows in 1999 and 2000. A different version of the game, titled Toy Story 2, was released for the Game Boy Color on November 22, 1999. A sequel to the game was released 11 years later based on Toy Story 3. It would be re-released as PSOne Classic for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable.

I had this game as a kid on the PC and now I speedrun the game. So needless to say, I've put way more hours into this game than I care to admit. I remember playing this as a child and greatly enjoying it for just being able to explore around (even though I never got past Alleys and Gullies as a child). Now, since I speedrun the game, I have a completely different look at the game, and needless to say, I still find it an enjoyable experience to play the game. One thing that wasn't mentioned in this review is that the N64 version was actually an EASIER version of the game. On the PC/PS1/DS version, the last level required you to have obtained 40 tokens, you take more damage from enemies and your health isn't recharged after each level. On the N64 version, only 30 tokens are required to beat the game and your health becomes a non-issue. As a side note, "You've got a friend in me" is the music for the first level in the game in the N64 version, however all of the other versions use a different, generic soundtrack (which is disappointing), although, I really do enjoy all of the music in this game. The game plays extremely well, and once you've played the game as much as I have, the camera basically isn't even a problem anymore. For anyone playing the game, a good trick to manipulate the camera beyond the two buttons that SLOWLY rotate the camera, just quickly go into, then out of first person mode and the camera will switch to the direction that you are facing. Love this game and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good time! (For anyone wondering, I estimate that I've beaten this game ~75-100 times, so yes, I know what I'm talking about :P)

I respect the hell out of people that master obscure games. I’m sure the people who designed this game are happy to have a fan like Joe Bill play this game, even though this wasn’t a huge success. I, too, had this game (at least I think I did-I had some Nintendo 64 Toy Story game), but never got past the first level. I kinda wish I had access to it now. Maybe I’ll get it on the PS1 someday, as I still have a PS2 and that should be able to play it. Godspeed, Joe Bill.

I really love this game and have a ton of nostalgia for it. One reason for my nostalgia is because this was the first game that I bought with my own money. Also for me Toy Story 2 was my Mario 64. I know it's hard to believe but I never played Mario 64 as a kid. Toy Story 2 was so much fun for me and my older brother to play through as a kid. Many times my brother would have to help me with some of the bosses and puzzles. I remember being so excited to tell my brother that I had beaten Zerg all by myself. I recently replayed this game again and I still think it holds up extremely well and was still lots of fun.

I know this is old, but id like to share my experience with this game. When I was about 5 or 6, I loved the Toy Story Films(And still do) and on a trip to EB Games, I picked up this title... for ps1. My sister handed me down her N64 in 2001 I think(I was about 4) with DK64, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Paper Mario(and aside from Mario 64, I still have the same cartridges i was handed down) and I absolutely loved them. When I got Toy Story 2 for ps1, it was probably my favorite ps1 game, third from Spyro 3 and Crash 3 as my favorite games as a kid(I still have the original copies of these as well)! My parents divorced and my mom moved to a neighboring city to take care of a sick family member. My dad was reluctant on me taking my ps1 games back to my moms house when I was through visiting because he thought I would forget them there and be sad, so I left them, but when I got to my mom's house, I wanted to play Toy Story 2. I went over to Blockbuster, but they didn't have it for the ps1, just the N64, so I picked it up. Long story short, It was fun, but even as a kid, I noticed how cut down the N64 version was,

I got this game recently, because I often watch Toy Story with my daughter, and thought it would be a game she would enjoy watching. The gameplay is mediocre, as are the graphics. My instincts were to dislike the game, but the balanced learning curve and the need to explore the vast levels actually drew me in a lot more than I thought it would. I'm only a few levels in, but it's better than I expected.

Some friends just introduced me to this game a few months ago! It's really pretty decent- better than I expected. The LOD system in the visuals is kind of neat, too (it beats having a thick fog over everything), and there are some nice textures as well, but it would be nice if the important objects would pop into view a little sooner.

I grew up with Toy Story as a kid. And, the console that I played on the most was the N64, so naturally I had this game and still do to this day. I remember really liking this game as a kid, but also being a bit frustrated that there wasn't much to it. Something I don't think you mentioned in the video is how short the game itself is. Seriously, one of the shortest n64 games I ever played. I still go back to this game, as well as others on the N64 at the age of 15 now. Somehow, the game still intrigues me.

Another game I rented on the N64 back when it came out. As a kid I really enjoyed it. Seeing it now though, for me it hasn't aged too well. There are a lot of N64 games I can go back to today and really enjoy them still, but this game for some reason just doesn't have the same nostalgic value. It was a fun platformer at the time, but you are absolutely right in saying that when compared to games like Mario 64 or DK64 it just isn't very good. Anyway, thanks for the review. Always great to see these old games.

This is probably what I'd call a guilty pleasure sort of game. I adore Toy Story and nothing felt better than running through Andy's Room completing objectives. My only complaints were some platforming faults (especially in the alleyway level) and the later stages begin to look too gray and dismal that they lose the more attractive appeal of the earlier stages. I still like playing it though and its a perfectly satisfying game to own.

I saw it in the '99 Christmas JCPenney catalogue and I reckon I will buy a complete copy on eBay just because of that, considering the fact that the gameplay will not live up to the hype this title had back then. Certainly the box, or rather the spine, will look cool in my collection!

I have the playstation version and I absolutely love everything about it. I am a huge toy story fan however so I suppose the environments and characters make up for the downfalls. Good review it's surprising that the n64 version isn't superior!

When I first played this I was able to overlook the flaws of this game and still enjoy it. One thing I feel is better about this port then the rest is better controls.

It was alright. As the PC version or N64 version some things got repetitive especially the music. What about the game after goldeneye on the N64 do you review that game?

My bad. I think I meant world is not enough which is 007 which was bought by EA then by Activision. The multiplayer and single player were okay if I'm not mistaken. It had a bank at the start it was not long after goldeneye. I thought it was a little under rated as a bond title.

I played this game as a kid but I never played the PlayStation version but rather the N64 and man was the game pretty great for the most part! I loved the 3D platformer feel to the game, the controls, the music, and that's it. However, I don't like the visuals as they're kind of blurry, I don't like how the characters don't talk much, and I don't like how Woody wasn't in the game but now I understand that Buzz is supposed to rescue Woody from Al much like he did in the movie. I also don't understand why both Stinky Pete and Jessie aren't in this game either. I also hated the fact that the game doesn't have a save feature for you to save your game when you come back to playing it much like in games such as Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and DK 64 but rather you need an expansion pack to save your game instead of the game asking to save it for you (ugh, how frustrating). Lastly, I knew there was a PlayStation version but I didn't know the N64 version was just a direct port from the PlayStation version and plays the exact same but with worse graphics and the characters don't talk during the cutscenes and instead there's pictures as visuals for the cutscenes.

I did complete the N64 version when I rented it when I was 9. I own it on n64 now. I do like the Playstation version better. ps1 looks a little better and playstation is smoother and SOUNDS so much better. I have the game on Dreamcast too but there is a weird issue with the controller where buzz does not walk straight forward. The PC version looked the best but having to good of a gaming machine now days wont allow the game to run :(

I had the playstation version of this and never really got on with it. I think with the games that you mentioned (super mario 64 and banjo kazooie) around ,my expectations of platforming games at the time was of a high standard. This probably tainted my view of toy story 2.
