Fun Fact: John Lasseter couldn’t envision the Toy Story movie as a musical back in the 90s, as he felt that it would make the film feel less genuine. The film's co-writer Joss Whedon later agreed, saying "It would have been a really bad musical because it's a buddy movie. It's about people who won't admit what they want, much less sing about it. ... Buddy movies are about sublimating, punching an arm, 'I hate you.' It's not about open emotion." However, Disney preferred to make it a musical, as they had had much success with incorporating Broadway-style musical numbers into their animated films, and encouraged Pixar to do the same. As a compromise, although the characters would not sing, the movie would feature non-diegetic songs as background music. Toy Story 2 on the other hand proved that the movie would’ve been great as a musical, especially the end of the film.

I love you so much for posting this. We saw this cast on our honeymoon, and I was immediately struck by how fantastic Woody was. We found him on the ship later(running Mickey's line!), and asked for an autograph. He said we had to get in line, and we said, no, we want YOUR autograph. He was so chuffed, it was adorable! As soon as I heard Book of Mormon, I said, "Nic Rouleau would be PERFECT for this!" And now he's been doing it 4 years! We saw him in Omaha, which was one of only 2 places he went on the national tour, and had him re-sign our Navigator that he signed back in 09. He was again, chuffed! He told his cast mates as he walked off, "They came all the way from Oklahoma just to see me! Because they saw me when I was doing the cruise!" So cute.
