We are back moving Dan Markoff's cool locomotive the Eureka and Palisades 4 to Bolder Nevada and the Nevada State Railroad Museum at Bolder for their annual Santa Train. Dan restored this locomotive in his back yard in Las Vegas Nevada in the 1980's, and has been screwing around with it taking it to 3 foot narrow gauge railroads for fun and adventure ever since.
Dan has moving his locomotive down to a science, or art, he has 2 trailers customized just for moving the locomotive. Watch as he makes this look simple!
Dan takes the locomotive to the museum at Bolder every Christmas for the Santa Train, in part to help the museum rase money, but also because it's FUN. The museum also has some of the surviving Eureka and Palisades equipment including 2 passenger cars and locomotive #7, all unrestored and not on public display but seen in this COOL video.
Dan has also been building a passenger car, a recreation of combine car #4. The car is almost finished! Take a look.

This was quite an experience! The story behind Dan’s locomotive is incredible! The result is a beautifully restored steam locomotive, which can be seen and experienced for generations to come! I would like to see the other artifacts preserved.. Not just left out in the open to be reclaimed by the elements. Seeing Dan’s love and devotion to this little train is amazing! Can’t wait to see his scratch built passenger car in service! Again... What a labor of love!!

I wish there were more American classic 4-4-0 locomotives that had been saved and could still be run around for all to enjoy instead of sitting quietly in a museum. These engines are certainly works of engineering art and pieces of history, but you can't really appreciate them until the are moving down the track, belching smoke and steam.

This would be awesome to own a piece of history like this and play with it. I’m sure Dan is very proud of what he has accomplished with the restoration, looks absolutely amazing. I’ve always loved the American type locomotives and to see one in narrow gauge is even more awesome.

OMG! That's amazing you're friends with Dan! I love the Eureka & Palisades #4, especially when I see it at Durango. I love narrow gauge, especially since growing up volunteering at a little narrow gauge loop called Midwest Central in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Always thought the E&P #4 would be cute going around that little track. Glad to see it on the road and rail!

Wow! I and my two grandchildren and their parents rode the Eureka just this afternoon. Then I discover your great video this evening. We were told of how Dan restored the engine and how he moves it, but to now see how it is actually accomplished is really fun! What a wonderful legacy. I am an HO enthusiast and would love a model of this engine to run on my layout. The passenger car is so beautiful, too. What a craftsman Dan is! Thanks for doing this piece, and have fun at Disney Land. Looking forward to your next transmission!

First saw the eureka in this video - have since seen it in many others, including its runs on Durango and silverton. Awesome that you know Dan! I have realized over the years I have been subscribed, you have shown quite the skill in modeling (Karyn might be be getting better than you, though - her scratch built stuff is gnarly!) and connections in railroading. How do you know EVERYONE? I guess all those years shooting and editing the VHS stuff - which I am still wanting to buy your old videos AHEM - has paid off. Sheesh. One of the least regretted subscriptions ever. 👏🏻

Hello Dale, how do you do? My Name is Jordan Shingler from Wem Shropshire in the United Kingdom. I have a been watching your train videos for quite some time now and I really enjoy them. I'm a huge fan of steam locomotives including the ones in your country, I love seeing different foreign steam locos from around the world. I really adore the Eureka & Palisade No.4 & other classic American 4-4-0 Steam Locomotives, I have heard so much about the Eureka, I was afraid that she was retired from service a few years ago, but I'm relieved she still runs now. I think the Eureka is wonderful, Dan Markoff has done an fantastic job restoring her many years ago. I wish I could come all the way to America to see these wonderful locomotives, but a plane ticket and a hotel all costs a fortune. I have a Facebook page of my Model Railway called Trainsville, I own a few HO Scale American Steam Locomotives myself, but I own a big collection of my Hornby & Bachmann Branchlines British Steam Locomotives and not forgetting some Thomas the Tank Engine Models. Why not have a look at it, here's the link to it. facebook.com/trainsvillerailway/ I love your video of Eureka and Palisade No.4. 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 10/10 Yours sincerely Jordan Shingler 😉

Wow thank you! I have always loved those early American style locomotives. The beautiful paint and highly polished brass, it was an interesting era. The people running those machines took great pride in them. And the people who encountered them were truly amazed by them, they were seem to be both works of art and scientific achievement all at the same time. Perhaps you will find your way over here it’s not that far if you don’t swim. Although I’ve got no room to talk I’ve only come in your direction once and I’m 65 years old! Karyn and I are however planning to come your way in the next year or so.

+ToyMan *Congratulate Dan Markoff for us.* Building a custom 3'-0" combine to complement an engine such as 4-4-0 Baldwin Class 8/18-C SerNo 3763 was a common feat for railroads in the 1880's; the Virginia & Truckee River built a limited number of passenger cars the same way at Carson City, NV, in 1880 for the then-newly-christened Carson & Colorado.

Hello. Wood burning locomotives make lots of ash. Much is dumped out of the firebox into an ash pit. But most is blown through the boiler and up the stack. It would go everywhere and set fire to much if not for screens at the top of that huge funnel. So the ash falls to the bottom of the funnel. There is a dump door on one side. When opened a mass of ash falls out. Unique to wood burners.

Awesome! I wonder how Dan gets around the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers but then he does own the locomotive. Man! I hope those guys are careful soldering around that wood on the passenger car. Remember solder metal to metal, wood doesn't take too kindly to hot liquid metal of any sort. Lastly to the dill weed who keeps giving thumbs down to this channel why? what about it do you not like? as of this writing you are in the group of 21 including myself 22 so I'm just curious because I see nothing wrong with this video unless it was dealing with subject matter that is to say a steam locomotive. If this is because you don't think of this as a toy well think of it this way some people have bigger toys. Again another fine production. I said what I said because I can see no issues with your video and look forward to see the next installment. Hey if you're going to be in southern California I hope you'll take in the Tournament of Roses Parade it is the best parade ever all the floats are made with plant material to include obviously roses, but various flowers, seeds, grasses and trees.

It's hard to believe that there is another engine numberd 844 at this Museum gp30 #844 when that engine went into the service Union Pacific's actual 844 Steam Locomotive was renumbered 8444 until 1989. Gp30 844 is now retired but still runs at that museum and here's something that surprising one of Union Pacific's newer sd70ace locomotives is numbered 8444

TexasRailfan21 That locomotive is in fact the reason why 844 was known as 8444 for a number of years! When the new series of diesels came out they couldn’t have two locomotives numbered 844 so the steam engine was re-number to 8444 and it stayed that way until those diesels were retired 844 ending up at the museum in Boulder and opening the number to go back on to steam locomotive we all know and love so much.

With *all that time & effort* it takes to lay down the temporary tracks to unload that locomotive, I am surprised they do not build something 'more permanent' to do the job...?
@ToyManTelevision
@ToyManTelevision 6 жыл бұрын
The problem is the loco unloads off the front of the trailer. Needs to. So there needs to be space to pull the tractor and coupling for the trailer away from the rest of the trailer, and that takes about 50 feet. Sucks, but can't figure another way.

PopsProductions124 yes!! But they have been talking about it for 30 or so years. The passenger car Dan is building is there. He wanted to restore that but they said no way, they wanted to. So he built his own instead. And 20 years later dans car is almost done and the real one is ruined. Never even covered. So it may get restored. They have even raised some money. Time will tell .

You should talk to Dan about running the Eureka on the Huckleberry railroad
@royreynolds108
@royreynolds108 6 жыл бұрын
That would be highly do able as the track is 3 foot gauge and laid with 75 and 90 lb rail. That track would be a racetrack for the Eureka. The sharpest mainline curves are the two loops and are 26 degrees or 222.271 foot radius. The K-27 makes them. The couplers on the Huckleberry are at the same height as the D&RGW equipment. I used to work there.

I wrote a letter to the Carson and Colorado restoration group that they should run their 3 foot narrow gauge 4-6-0 Southern Pacific #18 on the Huckleberry Railroad, I think it would look good alongside Huckleberry Railroad's recently refurbished 4-6-0 #152

The oldest operating steam locomotive in America is actually the Baltimore & Ohio's William Mason. I believe it is engine number 25. It is also the second oldest operating steam locomotive in the world. Only one locomotive, the Indian Railways Fairy Queen, is older, and it's only older by about a month. Just some interesting info I wanted to share with you guys.

The L & N put an oil burner on the GENERAL to be able to refuel with readily available diesel for the 100 th anniversary tour.
