Great job Keeper! I just did my 2018 4Runner limited and thanks to you mission accomplished. I would have had a hell of a time without your video. (The wiring in particular). I used the Kicker KSC270 as my replacement speaker which came with a bracket that fits the speaker and 4Runner without any mods. Thanks again!

Just did this same upgrade with JBL GX328 and the sound is almost as loud as factory speakers. I have tried many different speakers which most were 4 ohm and the sound was always way to low which threw off the sound stage. With these speakers its clearer and the sound is more balanced from front and back. With very limited options for this model this is a pretty simple replacement.

Thanks for the video. I’m looking at the wiring to the OEM speakers and I think both sides are supposed to be wired up to the yellow and purple. The reason that the speakers have 4 wires is because 1 pair goes to the woofer and 1 pair goes to the tweeter (the green and black on both sides). However, I’m not sure it matters as it only will if the 2 pairs go to separate channels on the amp and if the amp has a built in crossover for each one of those channels (though I doubt there is a crossover due to the presence of capacitors). If they are on separate channels with dedicated wattage to each you may have unbalanced volumes at each side at higher volumes. I also see that there is already a capacitor and I’m guessing that it’s on the black and green wires. So this means one side will have a cutoff at a higher frequency than the other and provide unbalanced sound if you use the green and black wiring on one side an not the other. Bass blockers shouldn’t be necessary as most speakers in this size already have capacitors on them. Do you notice a difference in volume or frequencies between the 2 sides? I’m not criticizing because the video has given me the confidence to do this on my 4Runner instead of buying a replacement OEM and I very much appreciate it. It’s just critical since these drive pretty much all of the high frequencies for the driving position.

Thanks for the video. I have a 2018 Limited. The Bluetooth with my iPhone sounds horrible. Toyota replaced the head unit and dash speakers, no improvement. Does this speaker change help ?

I have a 13 limited. What would you recommend for the doors and rear hatch speakers?

Do you think the audio was any better than the OEM? I got mine switched to GX328 and I feel no quality difference.

Question: by capping the other wires, did you retain the function of the door speakers....I'm replacing my dash speakers because of a blown passenger side speaker, so looking for upgrade while i'm replacing anyway.

I think the 3.5" replacement dash speakers are cheap enough that it's fine to go ahead and perma-mod the OEM speakers and brackets, even if the factory JBL replacement speakers are a $95 part per speaker. Just leave the replacements in when it's time to say goodbye to the 4Runner.

I have a 2019 trd pro with jbl package. It should work with that setup right even though it’s not a limited it’s probably the same?

I have a 2015 4Runner Limited with the JBL system and I need to replace just one dome/dash speaker on passenger side dash up by the windshield, as it's rattling some. Can you buy a plug and play vs. having to solder things?
