The front end of my truck sounds like a disaster moving down the road(squeeks and pops like crazy) and I have a good amount of play and noise when I turn. This gave me a good look at what I should be messing with. Thank you

I know this is an old video, but might help someone that sees this. When changing a tie rod on a vehicle that has tie rod adjusters/clamps, after you loosen the bolt for the clamp on the tie rod adjusters, you can push the clamp inwards (push it towards the other clamp) to relieve pressure on the tie rod and it'll be easier to turn. Of course mark your threads as he does in the video. But then you can spin the old one off easier and then spin the new one on. Push the clamp back where it was and tighten the bolt.

I have a '95 Toyota pickup, plain Jane version. My son bought it at 125k miles and drove it to 358k. Then it began mixing oil and water and he gave it to me. I did the rings, valves and head gasket and it now has 498k on it and running strong. No steering problem at all. Great vehicle.

For the lower joint you can use a 90 degree zerk or a side mount grease gun attachment.

If you're replacing ball joints (not reusing them), a pickle fork separates ball joints much faster because the steering arms can stay on the knuckles.

For the rust belt people, you dont need to remove anything to do the ball joints. Put an object between the upper control arm and frame by the droop stop, then lift the vehicle and support by frame wiyh stands. The suspension wont droop. Support the lower control arm with a jack. When you break the upper joint free lower the jack under the lower control arm you you will fins there is a ton of available clearance. No removing calipers or sway bar end links.

They don't last long about 6 months for me. But I do some off road driving. It's probably a good idea to use the kit to replace what is already busted but I wouldn't replace everything in the kit.

50s kid, did you ever have any problems with your ball joints? I noticed you installed lower ball joints that were taller than the ones that came out. They made a change in the control arm on 4/89.
@50sKid

They were aftermarket ones and they worked just fine. Probably a better idea to go with OEM stuff for longevity's sake but my buddy was selling this car.

I recently bought my first car, a Toyota 91 4runner, and it makes a cracking noise whenever I turn the wheel all the way to the left and drive... so I checked and it needed urgent replacement of the first two parts you changed. I did that, but the mechanic says it would be a good thing if I change the other parts as well... seeing this video I understand what he means...

The Idler Arm is always the weakest link, always wears out first, causes wheel shimmy, drift, they can't align the front specs. until its replaced. Over sized tires out of balanced caused my idler arm to wear out quicker than normal.

Wow. Lots of play. Almost 300K on my Tacoma and just replaced the lower ball joints because one was leaking grease (maybe) so just replaced them. Easy and quick. Everything else is tight. As preventative maintenance I had a local guy do the clutch about 30K ago and he used cheap aftermarket parts. Will NEVER put non-Toyota parts on a Toyota again. Clutch assembly lasted 30k miles. Lots of aftermarket parts, especially cheap ones, really are inferior. Seriously inferior. Checked out a lot of parts reviews/experiences. There are a couple of genuine Toyota parts dealers on line and their prices are very competitive with great delivery times.

How to know which are non toyota parts? I know nothing about cars, everyone says, the price doesn't matter, if it's cheap it's okay anyway... but idk lol how to guide myself to know what types of parts to buy ?

I don't want to critique your work or your approach to this application; however said, I would never use cheap aftermarket parts on my rig, or even take shortcuts and reuse cotterpins. Mainly mentioning this because (Toyota) factory parts last a very long time, and instead of having constant mishaps on the road to you personal journeys, I'd rather use parts that will never really fail. Always use the right tool for critical components; to not only make the job easier, but to avoid failure. 😡

Seems very dangerous to put $70 whole front end china ebay parts on major front end job. You do know that toyota 4runner lower balljoints have high failure rate and dropping at 50+ mph. Hope you or next owner doesn't get in accident because of cheap parts failure.
