Lots of good options here, it'll come down to budget. Dobinsons has a great riding setup, new springs, new shocks, between $1200 and 1800, depending which shocks you go with. Old Man Emu has a similar setup, or you can piece together Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks if you need something on a smaller budget www.shocksurplus.com/search?Year/1994/Make/Toyota/Model/Land-Cruiser/DriveType/4WD

You will probably need service around the 35-40k mile mark on something like a Fox, King, or Icon. Usually it is around 50k for strictly street, so if you are not beating on it too hard or too frequently off-road you will not see too much of a decrease in life expectancy. With that said you can likely get away with double those miles on something like a Bilstein or OME before they need to be serviced or replaced. Their seals often can not take abuse and temps of the other brands, but they last a heck of a lot longer under more moderate conditions.

Revisiting this and other RC related questions. Their Vertex coilovers are basically Fox 2.5 shocks, but manufactured in Thailand. So you basically get similar functionality without the quality of components (shafts, seals, shims, oil). We're not interested in running duplicated product. Same goes for their V2 smooth body shocks, copies of Fox 2.0 Performance Series.

@@ShockSurplus thank you! I greatly appreciate that. I am running them on my 2021 F150 and find they are ok for light duty action. However, there is essentially no real information or reviews other than amateur seat of the pants type stuff, so any information from a professional group like you is valuable. I think everyone knows they are cheap, but how cheap is the real question.

@@RagingBad thank you for the feed back, have you taken them through any extensive testing like whoops at the dunes or desert runs? I am wondering where the upper limits are. Currently I have just done some aggressive dirt roads and love them. I can then set them on soft and then they ride like a Cadillac on the road.

Yes, all springs that come with the stage 2 kits are providing some height gain over stock, and are a tad firmer

Bilstein 4600 or 5100 would the be closest thing toa TRD OR. Bilstein 6112 and 5160 would be the closest on older TRD Pro equipped with Bilstein. TRD Pro Equipped with Fox would be closest to OME BP51.

They are a tad bit difficult to adjustment because they are on the shock body. The rear are easy to access but the front coilover is a bit more work to adjust.

You don't need to re-valve from changing the spring rates. You can if you want to really fine tune everything but it's not required. They will be ride about the same.

We have to get one in to actually test them like we have on the 4Runners, but there is a Raptor or two in our extended circle that I think we can have a little fun with.

Most will require services and that is something we suggest everyone do if you're doing anything remotely outside day-to-day driving. The BP51 is probably the best all-around and gear for more like an overland setup. These do require you to service them just like any performance shock. Currently, you can only get this done from ARB directly whom is located in Auburn, WA. The great thing about the BP51 is the adjustability to really fine-tune your suspension based on your current needs. Air bags are nice and if you're towing, often, that can help out. The FJ actually uses the same parts a the 4Runner based on the year of it. Use this as a guide to help you see what suits you specifically.

If you like the idea of a softer ride and you are mostly driving on the street you will probably like Eibachs Stage 2R kit with their 2.0 Coilovers and Pro Truck Reservoir rear shocks.

We have plans for 6112, Dobison IMC/MRR/MRA, but not sure if we'll do Iron 4x4 again as we have them on an Xterra and it took way too much work to get it to where it's at now with just using the Ironman kit.

Nothing will be comparable to the Mercedes. If you're only keeping this stock and nothing else, stock to Bilstein 4600 for OE replacement, Bilstein 5100 for tow/hauling and Bilstein 6112 if you want to get into off-roading.

@@ryder710 From what I am reading, any aftermarket shock will almost completely eliminate brake dive. I am probably going to do Eibachs shocks with OEM springs. For now as my Limited shocks Xraes system are leaking.

Depends on what you're looking for. Bilstein 8112 are great for high speed driving in the desert and such. OME BP51 are better as an overland set up that's ready to hit the trails to get you to your next camp site.

The Bilstein 4600's are very popular for your 4Runner. If it is lifted, then going with the 5100's would be the way to go

We don't have the exact OEM specs but they should be around 550 lbs. give or take. We don't have any update on Iron man Foam Cells Pro quite yet but we expect to see a huge difference because Eibach and Bilstein used oil and nitrogen that is separated between a valve while Iron Man uses Foam Cell which is a Foam that is injected with Nitrogen. In the Iron Man setup, the foam will expand and compressed based on the vehicle's driving condition.

Sure you definitely do not need anything crazy. I would say you would be really happy with something like the Eibach Pro Truck Sport struts and shocks. They should make it a good bit more comfortable and stable on the road. Plus they last a long time so you get a lot for your money.

most shocks now have a non-kdss option, Fox doesn't change part numbers between kdss and non, neither does bilstein, Kings do, OME doesnt. If you are looking for something really plush I would lean towards the Dobinsons MRR or OME BP51. Those are really the only two high end packages aimed directly at being more plush on the trail rather than focusing on all out performance

If you're keeping this 2" or under, the stock ones are fine. 2" are more you should get a UCA, and 3" or more if you have to get a UCA. Then any 2.5 series shocks requires a new UCA if you ever considered going into any of those.

This video shows a large varies but entry level can start at about $300-400 for a full set like Bilstein 5100 but can easy get into the several Thousands like Bilstein 8112 for about $4000 for a full set.

Great starting points are Bilstein 6112 and 5100, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2, Fox 2.0 or Icon stage 1. After that, you would be looking in more high end parts.

@@ShockSurplus out of those options. Which would be the least harsh daily yet still have enough "control" to take the occasional harsh bump. My wife just got a 17 4runner and I want to make it ride nice but be able to handle potholes and manhole covers well since she seems to like to hit every single one.

They all will. Bilstein, King, Old Man Emu have specific KDSS part numbers but others do not.

For a work truck/mild overlander build.

Eibach on a budget, Icon mid tier, Dobinsons MRR top end. We like adjustability for work loads / overland gear loads / daily driven vehicle that sees a lot of variance in use

The BP51s are some of the most versatile shocks there are, can be made incredibly soft for your conditions. The adjustment isn't that easy, but if you know you're offroad for the weekend, you can set them up to be very buttery. Then tighten it all back up for the week on the pavement. Overkill maybe, but they'll last 100k miles and be the best shocks you've ever owned. Other more affordable options would be the Fox 2.0, or Dobinsons IMS.

They are height adjustable but not like a coilover. They use a circlip to determine the lift height. They are a great staring point and really solid for day to day driving.

Eibach would probably be your best bet. All of their kits are well priced, ride and handle better than stock, and last a heck of a long time.

We love Icon, but they definitely run firm and require a fair amount of service. If it is just for looks, then Eibach is the better call. We don't offer Toytec so we can't provide information to where they stand. We don't run them on any of our rigs either.

We don't have Toytec and currently have no brands to bring them in.

They do not offer coilovers. We are actually looking at possible doing a Fox 2.0 coilover all custom on one of our 5th gen 4runners. Note this is going to take some fabrication to fit in as well.

We would love that but no suspension is life long. You either need them rebuilt or buy new ones base on the brand you go with.

Bilstein 6112 would be our go to. We run these are on our 4runners.

I run them on my 98 in the rear and wow the difference is really amazing and that's with a factory spring , now I'm replacing all four corners shocks and springs just got to find the best spring for this year model , I do a lot of towing for my mower business , so I need something that wont make it squat though any advice , and has anyone ever tried bags ??

About the same in terms is parts offered but they use different part numbers.

The aftermarket Fox parts are different then the OE Toyota Fox parts. We run Fox on our own rigs and they're pretty solid and have taken a good beating.

Unfortunately, we do not offer Elka currently so we cannot provide our review on them.

I was wondering the same. Sandy Cats channel really likes them and used to rave about Kings until he got Elka.

Toytech and Elka are the exact same shock. 2.0 is well made but stiff on my 3rd gen

6112 are serviceable, unlikely people will need it though. Eibach is not serviceable
