Once full speed is reached, power gauge is no longer at 100% - something I noticed a few times, when battery charge was quite low. The car's system won't discharge the battery totally in order to avoid damage.

The car is build for local trafic and to cruise along the autobahn with about 120 or 130 kilometers per hour, and not this drivestyle. Than the Hybrides are not noisy at all. Yes, its scary to hear that petrol engine going in high RPM at first, but the engine is not going to break down. The engine is set to a max RPM of about 5500, so that's compared to a regular pertol car verry low.

+xavier lacorne Thank you. Hybrid performs very well with great fuel economy especially in urban areas and traffic jams. Even speed up to around 120 km/h seems OK, while higher speed comes with increased sound levels and higher consumption of course.
@jorgesummer29036 жыл бұрын
Why not overtaking? This is a common action for a car on the autobahn (since our's are free of charge unlike yours and therefore regularly well filled). It is worth to know in which way the hybrid works here.
@kadajawi65676 жыл бұрын
Actually IMHO hybrid is ideal for lots of accelerating/slowing down. While with a normal car the kinetic energy is wasted when braking, a hybrid will store that energy so you can use it next time you want to accelerate.

Do you have comparative experience with an atmospheric petrol engine around 1600 ccm / 100 kW size? E.g. 1.6/97kW in Toyota Auris or 1.6 GDi/99kW in Hyundai i30/Kia Cee'd? I am thinking about buying Auris TS Hybrid, just wondering if it does better/worse in lower RPM and acceleration 60-100km/h due to higher torque. Also seems the e-CVT is quite noisy when going at full throttle. Thanks.
@Timo-M7 жыл бұрын
+Jenicek25 Acceleration with HSD is continuous, because there's no gear to shift. On the other hand, as you already mentioned, it's more noisy as it sounds like way higher RPM when accelerating. Once the target speed has reached, it calms down unless you're going at higher speeds. I strongly recommend doing a test drive on your own, since Hybrid and CVT needs getting used to.

Timo, what do you think about Prius 2011 and Auris 2011 ? kinda the same engine, specs and power. Is prius less noisy than Auris? thank you.
@Timo-M4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don’t have a comparison between both noise levels. I’ve been driving an Auris for some time and had the chance to drive a Prius for a short amount of time as well. Noise level depends upon multiple parameters (for example speed, tires, road conditions). My experience was that the cars are quite silent while driving on electric motor in the city and became noisy when accelerating fast. Once target speed was reached noise came down a bit in most cases. Usually I didn’t drove as shown in the video. I assume that people driving Auris HSD or Prius are trying to save fuel and drive ecologically friendly. Anticipating traffic will help and not going to higher speed (and noise levels) will do so, too. Ideally you’ll try both and decide which one you like better. The dashboard is quite different and not everyone likes the Prius' design.
@vito32664 жыл бұрын
@@Timo-M Thank you.Prius design is unusual, i'd say futuristic .Auris and Prius , both models are criticized due to poor sound isolation, comparing with VAG groups cars with the same price tags. I own one myself, a Toyota Auris Hybrid with 140HP. My hybrid battery is always full when on the AutoBahn and I cruise around at around 170-180km/h with the gauge still hovering at the top-end of ECO. At such speeds, there is NO engine noise...but there is a lot of wind noise! I have driven 200km/h in my Auris too but it is always too busy on the road, so I slow down to around 170-180km/h.

What is still unclear is the detailled reaction at high speeds: Is the electric engine still helping? Where does the power come from? If the battery is almost empty the electric engine has to get the power from the mechanical engine via MG1, but there is nothing left since the mechanical engine is at the limit. So I assume the mechanical engine has to be able to fullfil the speed of 180 (200 in your desplay) alone. is that the case?
@jorgesummer29036 жыл бұрын
The interesting scene namely is 5:30 where the battery stops delivering enery (according to the display) but the speed increases though! Since the electric engine cannot help to accellerate, the mechanical must have done this. Or was it a downhill part of the road?
@Timo-M6 жыл бұрын
Actually, a second camera showing the road would have been nice. At 5:41 I mentioned that "it's going downhill and the top speed has been reached". My speculation is that battery power is used to "boost" acceleration as long as possible and after draining the battery it'll use the ICE to keep the car at the desired speed. As far as I know, the ICE is a 1.8 L engine with 99 HP. By the way, you'll might want try the "Yaris Hybrid Simulator".

+Johan Jonsson As I was going that fast for a few minutes only, I don't have valid numbers measured by refueling. Eventually fuel economy even while going full speed was good and as far as I remember the energy monitor showed that some electrical energy was drawn from the generator and assumingly used for the electric engine at the same time. Maybe I'll check for some numbers and add the info.
@Timo-M7 жыл бұрын
+Johan Jonsson So I checked that recently. Consumption accoding to the car's info display was around 12 L/100 km while the battery has enough charge to power the electric engine to support the combustion engine accelerate as fast as possible. Haven't done long full speed rides, therefore no valid averaged data. "Your mileages may vary."

I do about 5.6L/100km on Eco Mode, with the cruise control at ~135 kph on a slightly hilly motorway (A10 Bordeaux / Niort in France). Oh I just realized you buy the car very recently. I hope you like it ! The engine is actually not that noisy, what is confusing is that it's not noisy in the same way and at the same time as a conventionnal car. You'll get used to it don't worry :) - EV is not really a mode because you can have both EV+Eco or EV+Pwr activated. I use it only when I just have to move the car a few yards or in indoor car parks. Don't try to use it to save gas! It won't works. - I use Eco Mode most of the time. It makes the gas pedal less responsive (I find it good in city) and moderate the use of AC. - I never really used Power Mode. Tried it a couple of time and I didn't find it useful. Maybe for driving on the mountain? On some occasions the engine is on when idling (if it's cold or if the battery is really low). You may find the fuel economy quite bad on these moments ; I was worried about that the first times but it's perfectly normal. It's because you don't move but the car use still use engine power to charge the battery (even if you don't see any arrow from the engine to the battery!). - Sorry for bad english ^^ -
@pikethree5 жыл бұрын
When I press the pwr button my car gets MUCH more power. It's actually a bit ridiculous. I get 3.6 l/100km if I drive very gently, not pissing too many people off. I get the car warm then switch off heating to stay in electric mode as much as possible. Only switching it on when climbing hills as the engine is working anyway. Don't use cruise control if you want to save fuel. And it doesn't work if you are in B anyway.

While going at higher speeds was more on the noisy side in my opinion, I was able to drive through the city at quite low noise levels. Actually there was a pedestrian complaining about how quiet the car was, once. My recommendation is to try on your own. Of you’re interested into getting such a car, ask the dealership for a test drive. It's save - on German Autobahns at least. This depends on the actual car and weather conditions, of course. I wouldn't want to drive that fast in a Seat Ibiza, or some other sub-compact car with small tires and bad suspension - if they ever reach that top speed, that is. In Germany, it works. Imho, it's because people tend to drive more disciplined in general. They usually never overtake other cars on the right, but on the left, for example.
