Please keep in mind that this 50% increase in range they falsely advertise, does not mean that regenerative braking will give an 50% range increase! This isn’t going to bump your range from 100 miles to 150 miles. This simply means that 50% of the kinetic energy lost during the act of braking can be turned back into acceleration later. It is important to realize that on its own, regenerative braking isn’t a magical range booster for Hybrid vehicles. It doesn’t make Hybrid vehicles more efficient per set, it just makes them less inefficient. Realistically, Regen in Hybrid will boost up to 5% increase in range only in rural areas and Not in motorways. In highways regen gives you No boost in range at all!

CVT noisy? Learn to drive with a cvt, You don't need to floor it, use the revs, keep them between 2.5k & 4k rpm while accellerating. In what manual does it say You have to floor it?!?? There is no gain in flooring, just noise, not a raster accelleration.

You glossed over the revving thing, on the motorway these things drive you up the wall, thanks to the CVT box, as you said. If you are a company car driver who spends hours on the motorway, this is NOT the car for you. This is a car that needs an old school overdrive system for motorways.

should i get the new chr 2019 or the corolla 2020 hybrid ?
@cpt2fantastic
@cpt2fantastic 5 жыл бұрын
Been thinking this myself. The Corolla Hatch has a 2.0L Hybrid with much better performance than the 1.8L Hybrid, even though there's a 0.2L difference. Must be some other wizardry at play. In any case, I like the ground clearance of the CHR, both are hatchbacks, I suspect the CHR's infotainment system won't be as good as the new Corolla's, and the CHR has been out for a few years now so you can get it for cheaper second-hand (about 6k Euros difference between a 2-year old top-spec CHR and top-spec Corolla Hatch from what I've seen here in Ireland). So it depends what you're looking for I guess. Not an easy choice for me anyway.

Nice vid but be careful in promoting the “self charging” statements as this is very misleading for those considering an EV. This is NOT an EV since there is no plug to plug in. The batteries operate similar as the Prius and even though the mpg is higher with this battery assist, it’s still all in all a gas/petrol fuelled and powered car and has a tailpipe that contributes to GHG emissions. You can’t drive this on pure battery for longer than starts and some power assist instances, so the only emission savings is when stopped. This is the same as current stop/start engine technologies in many other brands. Whereas a PHEV and BEV allow for pure battery-only driving with some distance range, depending on battery pack size. When driving on battery-only they are emitting zero emissions.

Self Charging. Oh no no no, Where does the charge come from? Polluting petrol that's where! Please do not use this expression. You might as well call it perpetual motion, it's just as impossible to achieve. Bad Toyota, bad.
@nickjolly3984
@nickjolly3984 5 жыл бұрын
Of course it's self charging, if it can't be plugged in it must charge itself !! You do know that most of the electricity that charges EVs currently comes from fossil fuels or nuclear ? Self charging hybrids aren't a panacea but they're a good compromise for those who can't charge at home or work, until the infrastructure is sorted, and don't carry as much price premium as plug ins or full EVs.
@manwithcorsae7738
@manwithcorsae7738 5 жыл бұрын
@@nickjolly3984 Hi Nick, it's not the 'self charging' label that I object to. It's Toyota's use of it in it's advertising. Of course it 'self charges', it has a Internal Combustion Engine engine that provides to motive force behind the regen that tops up the batteries. So without the polluting engine that batteries won't charge. I don't know whether you live in the States or the UK, but the mix for electricity has seriously changed since your statement vis fossil fuels was true. The mix, even at peak times, in the UK is predominately solar wind and tidal, with gas and nuclear making up a small part. Coal has not gone away, but does not play a large part at all. Off-peak is very large pollution free. There have been several days last year where there was no coal:- www.theguardian.com/business/2018/apr/24/uk-power-generation-coal-free-gas-renewables-nuclear ,www.newstatesman.com/spotlight/energy/2018/08/coal-supplied-just-one-cent-britains-electricity-summer Quite agree with your final statement, but EVs had pathetic ranges only 5 years ago - the infrastructure was a handful of charges. Now I have a 2 year old car that will do 175 miles and there are thousands of chargers. This year there are a handful of cars that have over 300 mile range and the charging infrastructure will blossom. 2019/2020 will be a turning point.
@nickjolly3984
@nickjolly3984 5 жыл бұрын
@@manwithcorsae7738 , the electricity generating infrastructure is a lot more planet friendly than it used to be for sure. The Toyota self charging hybrids not only use the engine to charge the battery but also recover kinetic energy via the brakes. They also have a short EV range unlike stop/start vehicles. Not ideal but a start for people like me who can't charge at home or work and do such a low mileage annually that we'd never recover the higher purchase price with lower running costs. The EV lobby also forget that a lot of folks use their vehicles for towing and need proper off-road capability, something no ev can offer currently. What about vans and lorries ? My issue is that the pollution caused by congestion has been ignored by successive governments and now it's the car owner that's being made the villan despite buying in good faith.
@waynecartwright7276
@waynecartwright7276 4 жыл бұрын
@@nickjolly3984 i think the villain here is the manufacturers, when i went self employed no one sold a van that was anything but diesel.
