In the early 90s, everyone was looking to end Lancia's dominance in world championship rallies. After two second places in the championship, Toyota is taking advantage of the launch of the fifth generation of Celica to concoct a new weapon to unscrew the unstoppable Italians from the highest step. Identifiable by its compact size and its lines directly inspired by organic design, it left its mark on the coupé market. On the competition side, the bet will be won with three pilot titles for Sainz, Kankkunen and Auriol between 1992 and 1994. The Celica Turbo 4WD ST185 remains the most successful Toyota in rallies.
