its amazing to see videos from brian , they are very educational, i have a 2000 toyota solara 2.2 which the obd2 port does not power on ! last night it was working great but something happened with last night rain ! i brought it to the smogcheck station to see if they can scan it wiht the obd1 intead i will keep you inform

thank you! 2 autozones and an o'reilly all told me the OBD was not working. 1 even showed me the scanner getting no data (he was sure because he'd worked there for 4 years!). yeah, no shit... they never even found the OBD connector (fyi- not my car. helping my sister). anyway, even the toyota fanboy message board said the OBD was where the dealer one was. societal commentary: wtf is wrong with people now-a-days that they bs instead of just saying they're not sure? a wrong answer sending me looking to repair an OBD (can't get an inspection sticker with a check engine light on) is A LOT worse than a simple: idk!! so they were f-ing pretending it was hooked up under the dash! all 3 of them (insert blood curdling scream emoticon here)!! anyway, you rock for taking the time to make the video. cheers.

Recently got a 94 Camry no owners manual. Check engine light came on and could not find scanner port. I have been looking all over the car for the port. Lots of other videos tell how to check the code without the obd2 scanner. Found it thanks to your video. Thankyou so very much.

@michaelkoswara To be sold or marketed in the US they are required to have an OBDII plug. In other countries they aren't. BEFORE 1996 this wasn't so. So they had that OBDI plug that was unique to Toyota.... on a STICK! lol

Hi Brian, I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla Ceres (not sold in US, only in Japan i think). I bought it imported a few years ago. There is diagnosis stick with a plug stickgin up kinda like how a trans fluid or oil dipstick stick up ...ON the engine. .....is this the same one as in this video or do all cars have the same location (all toyotas ) ... And also my strut/springs makes noticable squeak sound even on little bumps, but they dont oscilate like in your vid. IS it bad ? how often to replace?

You're correct, the OEMs didn't want anyone working on cars they built and made it difficult to diagnose. But 2 things happened; story goes that a mechanic discovered Mode 6, which is advanced diagnostics in the vehicles computer and the government told the OEMs they had to share almost everything on how diagnose their vehicles. Unfortunately, for us, BMW didn't have to do that. From what I understand, only the BMW dealers can perform advanced diagnostics on their vehicles. I'm sure it's like that on other European vehicles as well.

Toyota powertrain in the Vibe somehow 🤔 I always get the complaint "the heater core is leaking" actually the water drain tube for the AC is clogged ...most common problem

+Allison May 1996 and newer Toyota's require a scan tool to read the codes. Here's the old ones- I show the plug in this video → kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pL9dnbuk25mnZ30.html and the diagram around 1:11 time stamp. Where the fuel pump jumper is, you paperclip between the B+ and the opposite corner spot to read codes on a pre- 1996 Toyota. (like you're going for a diagonal tic-tac-toe using the B+ spot and skiping the center) Then you turn on the key and count flashes on the check engine light. This patern would be a code 25 → ** *****. Then google the Toyota OBD1 code to see what it means. Code 25 for i.e. is a Lean air/fuel ratio condition.

I have a 97 celica and have yet to find the port. All I have found is some crazy looking port under the hood next to the fuze box that has a little cover on it that says "diagnostic port" but is not an obd2 port. It's weird because I thought all vehicles mfg after 96 had to have them.

96 Toyota Previa with OBD II connector port among fuses on dash board. I have bought 4 different OBD II scan readers, all high priced. None of them can read the Previa - model not recognized. So I can not even get codes. I was trying to determine if the old original code OBD I port (circular) was also hidden somewhere less visible. Have failed emissions. One mechanic managed to get a quick code read but do not know the model of reader he used. Is there such a thing as a special Toyota Dealer diagnostic Tool? By Denso ?

Sure is but you should not need it. Just choose generic obd on any of your scan tools, should read the codes ok, although they may not read manufacturer specific codes.

I have a huge amount of power loss in my 2004 Toyota sequoia.. last night o.m.w. home from a gas station all the lights went dim and the stereo started going off and on.. when I tried to rev the engine it just stalled out.. I don't know what to do other pay a mechanic shop to fix it.. or burn it to the ground lol...

I have a 97 celica and everyone keeps telling me that it has an obd2 port but there absolutely is not. All I can find is some funky diag port on the driver side under the hood. Is it possible that 97 didn't have obd 2 on some vehicles?

Same problem with my Paseo 97 should have obd2 but cannot find it anywhere. Even dismantled my dash to see if the prev owner tried to hide or whatever. Can't find it anywhere...

Hey I have a 2000 camry with 350000 miles. I changed the timing belt and water pump.. now it starts and dies.. and sometimes back fires out of the intake tube? Any knowledge would be highly appreciated

I was told it's under the steering wheel in my 2009 Matrix, but it isn't, so I went searching on Google. I still haven't found the info but I can be of help to anyone else looking for it. In Canada we have to do emissions tests every other year. The dongle plugs into that port. I'll just go to an emissions centre and have them show me. If people in the USA have to get these tests done too, that's the easiest way to find it.

Look to the left where there’s a lever to pop the hood. Then look way under.. mine is to the right of the hood lever.... if yours has a cover let me know. I think the mechanic lost mine!

Always check the sticker under the steering column. If they put it in an unconventional place and sell it in the US, they have to provide a clue sticker.
