That's what I hate about others doing any work on my car. Install a dash cam that also has a cabin camera so you have proof. I was surprised that my filter wasn't overly tight. as was the other GRC that I did for another owner.

I checked into that many years ago when Toyota started using the smaller N1 and was told they are the same. I've used the larger one in many cars that called for the shorter version with no issues.

The GR Corolla calls for oil changes every 5k miles or 6 months so I'm planning on following that for now. On most of my other cars I follow a 5k mile or 12 month OCI since many don't get 5k miles a year since miles get spread around.

You just need to make sure you find and stick with good sellers. Inspect the parts and compare them to a part from a dealer that you know is OEM and you will be okay.

It does! It's my 2009 Corolla S Turbo 5MT. I'm even taking it on a 6k mile road trip this summer. I spread my miles around all my cars and I drove my 2017 Corolla iM today. 😍

Could you? Sure, many people use 5w-30 but going from 0w-20 to a 5w-20 isn't going to be much help being that both are a 20 weight when the oil is hot.

I'm not planning on keeping used oil filters.

I'm having that same debate. I'd rather run the Pennzoil UP and I hate the thought of someone young that doesn't care doing my oil change at the dealer. It won't hurt anything to switch it out. Let me know what you decide to do. I need to find out if they change the oil at 6 months even if the car has less than 5k miles on it.

@@jimsgaragetoys That's my fear as well but I have a few months to think about it and see other people's experiences. They should have no problem following the 6 month interval since that's what's on the manual; Toyota pays for it anyway, no reason for the dealership to refuse it.

@@vanisshen4467 I've had them do the oil changes on other cars for Toyotacare so I'll see how it goes. I doubt that I'll get 5k miles every 6 months so I'll see if they give me grief changing it every 6 months like it says, 6 months or 5k months.

I'm the only one I trust working on my car. The chance of them using the wrong oil, double gasketing the filter, crossthreading the drain plug, under/overfilling, taking it on a joy ride....its piece of mind to just do it myself.

@@austinmears6481 I feel the same way. At least if the dealer does it they use OEM oil filters and I've never seen a gasket come off a filter since they are crimped on. I do all of my own service though since I feel the same way you do.

Like many have said, the brand of oil that a manufacturer uses has nothing to do with the quality, it has to do with the marketing and the deal they made with the oil company. Mobil 1 hasn't tested very well in any of the oil testing I've seen. Pennzoil scored better than every oil but Amsoil and it was a very close second. The testing on the Corvette from GM engineers was done with Amsoil and they concurred that it protected much better than Mobil 1, but Mobil 1 was "good enough" for it to work okay past warranty. Any synthetic oil is changed every 5k miles should be more than okay or "good enough" but many oils protect better. Every oil company that has an exclusive oil they use for a manufacturer pays them a lot to be able to say that they are the "recommended" oil. Don't be that naive to how business and marketing work. I've been told this same thing from people that I know well that work for Toyota.
