These are 2 of the best hot hatches money can buy right now. The front-wheel-drive Honda Civic Type R offers more power and torque but the Toyota GR Corolla has all-wheel-drive.
Which of these hatchbacks will win in a best of 3 standing race and a rolling race? We got the chance to put them head-to-head at Gerotek's testing facility in Pretoria. The concrete surface is extremely grippy and proved difficult to launch on, especially for the rev-limited Honda Civic Type R. But does the GR Corolla have enough pace to beat it over 400m? Watch Jacob and Ash put them to the test.

@@Angus_____your standard drone with follow mode can't pull off these shots and probably has a top speed of 40kph. These shots require an FPV drone, so it can get these shots at over 140kph. No follow mode, just a controller

Correct, pilot with a headset on, custom built carbon fibre racing drone. Maxes out at about 200km/h, it's amazing to see it in action :) Thanks for watching

@@labourlawact7826but can we really evaluate the Toyota as reliable because it is fairly new in the market. Or are we going based on Toyota's history. And other manufacturers you referring are who? Because VW is the next on this and maybe Hyundai who is also not so old. Remember VW in this country only ships DSG and that is the problem with VW. In America they have manual GTI and R, I guess that is reliable.

Great video, albeit , 14.9 seconds seems rather off the pace for a 220 odd kw 4WD even at our altitude. The RunX RSi’s used to hit 15 seconds dead and quicker 20 years ago along with the “stock” Corolla 20 valves and Honda Vtecs 😀. After a quick google search you see overseas the GR Corolla gets between 13.3 and 13.7 seconds and the Type R 13.9. Maybe just the surface you guys ran on.

Yep Awd and makes 300 hp to boot out of a 3 cylinder 1.6t liters is very difficult and maintain reliability all at the same time is impressive. 315 hp out of a 2.0t 4 cylinder isn’t bad but not impressive as the GR Corolla is. I was a little surprised that the Corolla held its own against the Civic Type-R. But if I told you that my 1.6t 4 cylinder can keep up side by side against a Polestar Electric Vehicle you would think that I was joking but happy to claim that I’m not. 1.6T is all stock except for a drop in K/N filter, Motul engine oil, Special Racing plugs, EM3 lower engine mount to eliminate wheel hopping. Michelin Pilot Comps. Lower body stuffing bars front to back. Running 60/40 E85 and 91 fuel. No other mods. Yes has a stock 7 spd DCT with dual sport mode only with manual settings. Auto settings in sport is standard sport mode only. If you look up the Polestar3 3:59 specs you probably would be in disbelief the least expensive Polestar3 does 0-60 in 4.9 sec. and makes 489hp and 620 ft lbs from its electric motors and I learned of these specs way after I raced it from a dig! My car has no electronic mods to its ECU because they’re aren’t any tuners finding it difficult to fool because it’s like a rudimentary A.I and I have run up to 60% e85 with no issues in performance because the ECU is Octane learning. Only thing it effects is mpg. But the performance is a benefit. Obviously.
