Toyota GR Yaris 0-100 km/h test (4.71 seconds)

At first I thought 3 000 r/min would be the better launch r/min but the system shut down completely. Decided to launch at peak power r/min and beat manufacturer claimed by just under a second.
Just as a side note, this is me flat/power shifting on a test unit provided to me by Toyota. I don't drive cars like this on a daily basis. So those saying there is no mechanical sympathy being shown here, well you need to go and research how to get times on a manual car. This particular unit is doing just fine and still running about.

Just read some of the comments, this car is not about 0-60 it’s a road rally car, if your car is super quick 0-60 or 0-100 on a public road this GR will be all over you as it doesn’t waste grip or traction, trust me going A-B road very few cars can travel across ground in all weathers like this thing.

Wow lots of strong comments here. Well I've been performance testing cars for over seven years and not one manufacturer has come back to me with complaints of my driving. I guess flat-shifting isn't a well-known technique. I apologise if you are upset by how I conducted this acceleration test. 🙏 As for proof, unfortunately I don't have access to the VBOX data and didn't have a second camera to record the test but the results are published in the January 2022 issue of CAR.

For everyone that complains about him putting stress on the engine - the most important thing for an engine is the supply of oil and the right amount of coolant. If everything is lubricated and optimally cooled at all times, you should have no issue of direct metal to metal contact breaking something in your engine. Of course everything has to be at optimal temperature to drive hard. Going into redline translates into the risk of the oil film breaking, or the engine overheating in some places, resulting in potentially breaking components. If you do it responsibly and not all of the time, you are fine. It is also not good to not stress an engine and always leave it under 3000 RPM. Residue will start to form and keeps piling up, blocking your valves which can result in misfire and at worst engine failure. Make sure to give your engine 3000 - 4000 RPM occasionally when it is at optimal temperature.

Don't know about this particular guy but I've done several drag races against a GR Yaris, with my own personal car and never ever could it beat me in 0-100kph drag race. I drive an Audi TT 2016 DSG Quattro completely stock. So the 4.7 second time looks a bit over optimistic but then again it could just be the driver/road conditions etc

Bet whoever you were racing didn't drop the clutch at redline and flat foot shift like he did either...

Most people can't or dont want to launch a gr yaris hard off the line. It sounds like the car is going to give out. I wouldn't buy one. Who knows how long the clutch will last or even if it can handle hard launches over the long term. Time will tell.
