I'm wondering if the turbo can be designed to kick in at 1.5k rpm and cut off at 3k so we dont need to go above 3k for maximum power

The 2kd is a mess under 2k rpm, feels like a tractor, so I don't think thats a great idea. The redline for the 2kd is 4k, I personally shift up at 3.5. I think you worry about the wrong issue, if you are seriously worried about turbo lag, use a smaller turbo or go twin turbo, but thats a very different job.

Julio Ham according to the owner who is my friend,he went for dyno test,the results are 168.7bhp (98bhp when stock standard)on 17 inch rims with 255/65 tyre & 397.4 Nm @ 3200rpm

Shack Qamar hi bro,depending on how you want your Hilux to perform and behave after the mods,you can choose a variety of add on’s,on my friend Hilux here,he is frequent hill climbing guy,where he used to drive uphills( Genting& Karak) if you stay in Malaysia,so he went for this conversions,thanks

what RPM does the boost come in at?

In this case..it comes in at around 2300rpm..cut off at 3600 It can be adjust on the software install on the engine management whether you like it to boost earlier or later All depends on your taste..😎😎

I have a 2KD as well.. we tried to tune the engine management control to start boost earlier but apparently it only applies to the 1KD with the VN Turbo. The only way to get the boost earlier seems to be by lightening the exhaust turbine, so it starts to spool earlier. If you know of another way, I'll be glad to hear.

I ve seen some tuners alterating and playing around with the waste gate hoping to get the boost to come earlier Some even using electronic control waste gate so it can be adjusted with a piggy back ECU on top of the stock ECU

The wast-gate control only controls the how long it stay closed for (for building boost).. not how early it begins to spool. DId you have to do a conversion adapter for that turbo to work or was it a direct replacement?

Its a direct replacement bought online i think Its an aftermarket product But the tuner indeed told me that with the waste gate controller installed,turbo kick in much earlier Maybe its just pure sense or feelings i dont know,but if you might,can give it a try..
