Lights stay on after I shut door . Terrible! Why no button so lights turn off when door is shut ?

What if I want to be able to only turn on the rear lights from the driver seat?!

This doesn't work on the front seat overhead light in a 2004 Toyota Rav 4. I can't get it set to come on when I open the door. It sucks because the front seat is so dark. When I turn it on manually, I have a habit of forgetting to turn it off.
