In todays video I show you how to do a Major Service on a 2019 Toyota Camry. Includes Coolant exchange, transmission service, oil change, wiper blades, air filter and cabin filter, I also replaced the spark plugs. This service at the dealership would run you about $500 on a 4 cylinder Toyota for everything besides the spark plugs and wiper blades. Follow this video to save some money and do it yourself. Super Easy job that requires very few tools.

Tech tips for the peeps that want to do this themselves. -Hybrid transmissions are not the same as non hybrid transmission. Fill procedure is different -when doing drain and fill procedures, always open the fill port first, then open the drain. Especially if you live on the East where there’s a lot of salt on the road.

I remember that was the first thing I was taught when I started working at the dealer: Make sure you are able to fill before you drain any fluid. A simple fluid change will become a disaster real quick. (I'm in Quebec, Canada so rust is really a thing here).

I reviewed the video several times but did not see a way to flush fluid out. When I did it on my tundra I drained the pan and over filled it with 8 qts, then disconnected a line in the front close to the radiator to get the nasty fluid out of the torque converter and system. With that said which line on this trans mission should I disconnect to get old fluid out of the cars tranny torque converter and system once I fill it like you did in the video?
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 2 жыл бұрын
@@misterbean8213 I’m sorry I didn’t read your first question entirely. If you want to flush it then yea disconnect one of trans lines at the cooler not sure which one comes from the trans or goes to the trans but should be pretty easy to find out once disconnected. Might make a little mess. But just make sure you have fresh fluid constantly running back into the trans to avoid running it dry. We hardly ever did actual flushes at the dealer it was always drain and fill.

I have a 2020 Camry Hybrid LE... The Transmission Fluid drain and fill is the same procedure correct? Are the drain plug and fill in the same location as the 2022 Camry Hybrid? Should I hook up an OBD 2 Sensor to check exact transmission fluid temp (hot ATF expands and cold ATF contracts) that could change the amount of ATF that drips out the fill plug? Should I cycle through the gears (Drive-Reverse-Neutral-etc.) to run the ATF through before capping the fill plug drain off?

I have a 2019 RAV4 hybrid and looks to me like it does not have a radiator cap. I drain and fill both the engine and inverter coolant today, put it in maintenance mode, the radiator cooling fan kicked on, then the RPM of the cooling fan speed picked up, follow up with some pretty loud noise. I turned off the car, took it a a ride, the temp reading on coolant for the engine rose up pretty quickly. It seems that, I think have a bubble trapped. Coolant level on both reservoirs are top off. That whole schtick of "it's lifetime fluid, it doesn't need to be changed" is complete BS. If people that worked at dealerships just knew how to converse with customers without coming off as sleazy salespeople, it would be different.

How about the inverter coolant? I am at 150,000 miles and due for that. I had a 2006 Prius since new and just retired it with over 400k miles (still runs, just a PIA finding and rebuilding main batteries that usually fail in 3 months). Did all the fluid changes myself (and everything else). Used a vacuum fill for inverter and engine coolant on the Prius. Is it required on the Camry for the inverter? I am a fan of changing fluids for preventative maintenance even if not recommended, but could not find any reference to transmission fluid change in my 2018 Camry Hybrid Maintenance Manual. BTW, many thanks for the videos!
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 7 ай бұрын
I would rec doing the inverter coolant service, should be similar process check the side of the radiator and see if it has 2 drain cocks, if it does one is for the inverter and one is for the radiator. Just drain the inverter and fill the reservoir back up and run the vehicle with cap off to let bleed or use a vacuum bleeder. I have a CT200h so basically a prius might be doing a video on that service soon.

If not what I’m going to do is remove the fluid from the reservoir making sure not to suck it all out so air doesn’t get in then fill it up then bleed the brakes until it looks like new fluid coming through, in the following rear passenger, rear driver, front passenger, then last front driver

What about all the fluid in the torque converter? Isn't this just thinning out the old transmission fluid and contaminating the new one?
@LetsDriftMedia

You could do a flush if you wanted to but I just showed how to do a fluid exchange which is what you would get when taking your car into the dealer.

I have a new Camry with the 2.5 that specifies 4.8 quarts engine oil capacity with filter change. When I fill with the 4.8 quarts I am slightly above full on the dipstick. Is that normal with this engine? Thanks
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia Жыл бұрын
I’ve always put 5 qts in these and have had no problems. Are you checking the oil right after your pour the oil in or are you starting the engine then checking the oil after it’s ran for 10-20 seconds.
@AE821
@AE821 Жыл бұрын
@@LetsDriftMedia Thanks for the Reply. This is after the car has been sitting overnight. If I check the fluid after the car has ran for about a minute then the stick will show a little below the full mark.
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia Жыл бұрын
@@AE821 that’s normal then. Your oil level is fine. You are supposed to check the oil level right after you shut the engine off not after letting it sit for hours.

This could be very similar to the 2021 Venza right?

If 3 quarts come out the transmission you should put 3-4?, or is there an exact amount, or it doesn’t matter and won’t affect the transmission negatively ?

What are the procedures for the non hybrid ( 2.5L), I knwo people say the trans has to be at a certain operation tempature and stuff like that
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Non hybrid you start with 5 qts or so. Get the trans to operating temp then pop the drain plug off. There is another plastic check tube inside the drain on the non hybrids and you want fluid to just trickle out when warmed up.
@LetsDriftMedia

With the hybrids you just fill them up like a differential

According to another master tech here on KZfaq he said not to run the heater doing this whole process or you could ruin something in the system, any idea what he means is he right and you skipped to show us that step? Thanks man
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia Жыл бұрын
Sounds false to me, running the heater just allows a valve to let coolant flow through the heater core located beneath the dashboard, The hot coolant running through the heater core allows the air being blown past it by your cars blower motor to allow hot air to be blown out your vents into the cabin. If that was true, then I guess you could possibly "ruin something" anytime you ran the heater in your car which makes 0 sense.

The coolant and oil change will be the same. The transmission may vary. On non hybrid models you measure the fluid level when the vehicle is warmed up unlike this one where you just fill it till it drips out.
