Toyota No Power

We dive in to the Toyota Prius that came in originally with a lack of power when accelerating. After discussions with the owner of the vehicle and recent repair history , we discovered an interesting situation.
After elsewhere repaired an exhaust leak at the exhaust donut ,the vehicle started to exhibit a serious symptom of no power when accelerating. We determined that the original leak was caused by excessive back pressure from a clogged
estricted catalytic converter.
The converter substrate is a honey comb style filter that is compromised of rhodium,platinum and palladium. These precious metals that coat the converter allow for the catalyst (a speeding up of a gas change) ;converting the spent noxious gas fumes of carbon monoxide to spew through the substrate and ultamately out of the tail pipe as carbon dioxide. When this substrate starts to come apart ,it can lodge in the exhaust piping , causing restriction and a lack of flow---in turn a serious lack or power when accelerating.
It is important to understand that excessive, or partially burnt fuel remnants that are deposited in to the bed of this substrate can cause damage. If your upstream air fuel management is not operating efficiently this eventually can be a problem for the catalytic converter.
Always ensure that the spark plugs ,along with remaining secondary ignition components are working as designed with no faults or wear. They just will not be able to properly burn the fuel in the combustion chamber. Additionally, it is imperative to ensure then fuel injectors are atomizing the fuel and not misting droplets of fuel. This raw unburnt fuel can cause serious damage to the Catalytic Converter.
Remember that these converters usually do not go bad on their own, and more than likely there are other causes to failure.

I have a 2008 Toyota Allion Zrt 265. I removed the catalyst converter when was fully clogged. Now I have load sound. Can removal of the converter cause power to lose?

I live in california and 5 days ago they stole my catalyc converter.. I was driving my 2009 prius without catalyc converter..drove it for 4 miles and it worked then I drove it back home and now it does not go into gear. It turns on but does not go into gear. The red triangle came on with exclamation point while driving it back home and then a few min after it did not respond anymore. I parked it a block away from home cause I could not make it home. My insurance is towing it tomorrow to a shop so they can fix it..but now it has an issue with not going into gear..do u think that's because it does not have catalyc converter? Car was running great before it got stolen..no issues at all..I wonder if I messed it up or the prius is doing it on purpose just to be safe since it does not have the cat?

Bought a used 2012 Prius V with 91K miles. No codes, but seems low on power to me. I test drove 10 of these but not on the hilly roads we have where I live. Two questions : Q1 How do I quantify my Prius power so I know if there is a problem? Q2 How can you confirm bad catalytic converter w/o cutting it open ?

Carpenter Family ~1. Check exhaust flow from tailpipe when power braking ~ 2. Temperature between the inlet and outlet of pipes at cat converter should have at least 100 degree difference. Call me at the garage anytime for any assistance here .

I have a prius 06. It continuously looses power even driving at 10mph. I turn off power for about a minute then restart. It drives fine for about 10mins and boom again looses power. I can't figure out the problem. Any help??

That car sounded like you were a victim of the zip ties on the axles prank. What happens is the zip ties make strange noises while you drive the vehicle.

The old seafoam in the forward o2 sensor port trick wont work. Wanna go cheap swap it with the junk ones on ebay.

I took my 2016 Camry hybrid in to change the tire and when I got the car back it no longer had any power. There isn't even enough power to turn on the radio and can't go over 5mph. Garage said because it's a hybrid it generates power from the wheels and something is wrong with a sensor and that it needs to be taken to the dealer. The car was having no power issues before. Does that sound right to you? \

i have a 2008 prius runs good on flat road . but no power much on hills about 55 mph. you think is catalytic or battery releted

you can easily test the battery health yourself with Dr Prius phone app and approved ODBII (only $11 on amazon. $9 for app for 3 cars believe)

Try the cat first if your over 180,000 miles without a swap

I have a 2010 prius with 230000 miles getting this problem. The air leaks out of the gasket. In front of cat under hard acceleration causing spring bolts to chatter or vibrate. New cat from walker is on way for 400.00 this should solve my same problem

New cat solved problem but stub for cat to clamp to is very small and won’t clamp and seal properly so I used adapter with fiber fix for exhaust and clamps and it works perfect and no air leaks

I had a neighbour that destroyed his Prius engine,by never changing or checking the oil. He said he had a funny noise. I checked the dip stick,dry as a bone.

Hey There. Am calling from Houston Tx. I have 2009 Toyota Prius Anyway when I am to do some laundry I forgot to check my pants pocket Smart Key Fob get wash with my duty clothes it get wash too. I took it a part to dry it real good. I don't know if motherboard is fry or not? so I can't get in the car key-fob key is not cut at all. I would like to try to get in the car so I can disable both batteries so it can reset it self. So I hope to hear from you real soon.

I once had an 01 Corolla as a rental car. Now there is a car with no power hahaha!! That sad thing couldn't get out of its own way even to save your life!! Once on a hill there is no such thing as acceleration any more with that thing. You have to get a running start or that is the speed you are stuck at. I can't believe that such a gutless car existed!!
