jironically it is the CAFE standards that are driving trucks to be bigger and bigger. i know you remembere the chevy S10. it sure as hell was popular and it still would be but we can't buy them because they are only rated for 2 people and the MPG on a 2 person vehicle doesn't meet the cafe standard. they have to have a full bench in the back that never gets used so they can meet those standards.

Carbon credits motivate companies to at least try. I'm banking on electric cars being great "some day". Agreed not now. Especially states with cold winters. But like all auto industries government mandates, car manufactures will figure it out. Better batteries that run in the cold and charge fast without auto igniting. Just imagine pulling up to a gas station like now but next to diesel there is a power cord. You charge to 80% in 5 min for $20.00 instead of $100 like I do now. I cant wait. And I'll say thanks for the guys who buy now, to make my future dreams come true. If I'm still kick'en. P.S. I'm old enough to remember. Pintos were sold at a discount and F 150 trucks sold at a premium. Its how manufactures meet their millage quota. You had the freedom to buy your PU if you wanted. Or had the good fortune to get the pinto at 1/2 price. Your choice. TOTAL FREEDOM

Auto shop is not out of schools. What's happening is manufacturer's are taking people ability away to FIX cars, thus the schools are struggling to TEACH the course. The schools now have to get the MOT to check codes, which costs upwards of $5,000 Easily broken too, so the school better have backups. I was in shop just as computers took over cars, and the teachers were ready to quit. It took almost a decade for schools to catch up to the new tech, and only NOW are we actually teaching relevent material.

Just in regards to the idling issue Scotty talked about, all types (mild, full, plug-in) don't run the engine at all during a stop, everything runs off the high voltage battery, including the air conditioning (at least Ford hybrids like my C-Max do). The regular cars that put in start/stop systems on standard 12v electronics do this too to a point, but those have lots of issues (mostly due to the older ones not using starters built for the purpose, and the 12v lead acid batteries getting worn out prematurely).

Idle your diesel engine at your peril! The new emission regulations in place with semis since 2008 have been an absolute disaster for those idling their diesel engines. Older engines such as the Detroit Series 60(from the early 90’s) had relatively few issues from idling. It was recommended to idle up the engines to full oil pressure to lessen fuel dilution in the oil. In the later electronic engines conforming to the new emission requirements in 2008 idling the engine led to a variety of issues, especially when it came to the regen of the diesel particulate filter. Later on idling was blamed for issues with the DEF(diesel exhaust fluid) system. Any diesel operator these days will idle a hot engine for several minutes to bring down the engine oil temps and the coolant temps. In addition it allows an engine turbo to spool down from 50,000 RPM’s and protect the turbo from damage. Next step is to shut down engine and use some type of unit to maintain heat in the cab and charge batteries so diesel engine will be ready to restart the next morning.

No it will never be. There is a physical reason for that. H2 bond is a strong one and you need to break it in order to get H2. That requires a lot oif energy, and the H2 making proces utilizes 80% of the theoretical energy. He willalways be more expensive than gasoline (about $10 equivalent gasoline galon) The ev just uses electricity to charge directly the batteries istead of using electricity to get H2 to produce electricity in a H2FC to propel the electric motors. Burning H2 directly is even more wastefull.

Hard no. Hydrogen pushed by fossil fuel lobbyists. It is expensive, explosive & impractical in passenger vehicles; it had more R&D time than BEV but Toyota can't give them away $66k, after incentives & $15k free gas card you effectively pay just for the fuel cell. People still don't want them given pricing $36/kg made Shell give up. H2 Trucks will work for a short while until BEV edges them out again. Most rational companies gave up on car H2 in 2008, when Tesla Roadster released.

Thanks for bringing this up! Wtf do I constantly see people just sitting in cars idling. When I need to pick up something quick at 7-11, the parking lots full of people sitting in their cars and the stores empty. When I need gas, no pumps available because everyone's sitting there idling looking at their phones. And When I try to drive home my neighborhoods full of double parked cars idling with people sitting. Why don't you people have anywhere to be? Get a ducking job and get out of your dang cars!

KZfaq is such a wealth of information. I got more info about cars and the car industry from this one video. Than anything in corporate media.

If you bought a 1969 Boss 429 Mustang for five grand back in the day, then you would see a car going up in value over time LOL

My older brother is the guy who had to sell his 1969 Boss 429 Mustang to pay for school. My father hated the car and was so stingy that pennies would squeal when he took them out of his pocket.

Nissan made their technician training modules available through the aftermarket technician information service they built when they got on board with the right to repair movement. Perhaps Ford should do the same. My Titan has become way more reliable and far less expensive to maintain since I quit taking it to Nissan and started going to the diesel shop that informed me of this.
