These are pretty nice now. Also if you want a hybrid but don't want a Prius, get a Corolla hybrid. They're AWD, hybrid and right around $28k which is pretty wild to have a new car that gets 50mpg and is AWD for under $30k and you get that Toyota dependability

My partner has a 2020 Corolla Hybrid - great car, it was only $23,000 when she bought it, it gets 53 mpg, and has pretty comfortable seats and ergonomics. I personally prefer hatchbacks to sedans, but we drive the Corolla about equally to my Rav4 Prime, and the Corolla is a very smooth, quiet, little car, and a great value for the MSRP.

I never thought I would say this about a Prius, but this is the most beautiful new car right now, in my opinion. Toyota did an amazing job by transforming the Prius from an unattractive and boring car to a gorgeous luxury car that is also fun to drive. Toyota E-CVT has nothing to do with regular CVT. It's a genius design when 2 electric engines sit around 1 shaft on planetary gear. And ratio gives you a chance use BOTH of them at high speeds, 1 of them would generate electricity on low speeds, or 1 of them would work as reverse gear. Scotty, do you remember when Prius had transmission worn out? Neither can I. Because it's so simple.
@jeffreyvai6750
@jeffreyvai6750 5 ай бұрын
I wouldn't even call it a CVT because there's no belt, it's more of an electrified transaxle. And it's so good even ford and other companies bought this same transmission for their own hybrids
@RoyJones-nv6qu
@RoyJones-nv6qu 5 ай бұрын
@@jeffreyvai6750 exactly. I think they can use a lot more tech and we will see it in future. Like some super capacitors, so a battery wouldn't wear out. 80% of the stored energy literally goes right away within 1 minute when you accelerate after stop sign or after going downhill.

Planetary gears not a great idea on a Jet engine, but P-W did just that, and they had failures during ground testing. Personally I would avoid any Airbus with the Pratt-Whitney GTF jet engine. Go Boeing, they do not use it on any I have seen. The planetary gears are to reduce fuel consumption. Lowering bypass-fan speeds. As in car engines, complexity has made engines less reliable, and the GTF needs more maintenance.

@@BigEightiesNewWave Boeing has more fatalities than Airbus. 737s are outdated piles of junk. 757, 767 are old trash too. Only 777 and 787s are good, but that's like 20% of all their planes.

My wife's 2015 Prius with 150k miles gets 50 MPG city/46 MPG highway and still runs great. Oil changed at 5k mile intervals and have never had any issues. I replaced the headlight housings last year due to severe oxidation and now use Plexus on all plastic components on all of our cars and RV. Toyota mechanic says the hybrid batteries are still healthy and the car could last at least another 50/75k miles or more.
@J_Smith7
@J_Smith7 5 ай бұрын
Potentially much longer. You might have to replace the hybrid battery at 200-250k (very well could go longer), but motor and transmission could easily run to and over 300k if you take care it. Refurb hybrid batteries now too make the cost maintenance on replacing much lower too now.

I hope to get that far. Mine's at 298k...it was a 2010 and the early gen 3's had a few issues when they get old, head gasket and brake master cylinder/booster. Both cost a few grand to fix but I had one go at 265k and the other right now at 298k. I go between 6k and 8k on oil changes. Older original battery but that's the last big thing it should need. Mid 50's mpg in the summer and 50ish in the winter, with driving gently. With a new battery it could do 60s in the city with gentle driving.

I had a new 2018 Prius in Maine. 3 times the car would not run because of too much ice in the exhaust pipe. I had it towed to the dealer, and the mechanic sent me pictures of the ice blockage in the pipe just prior to the muffler. Toyota denied they had a problem but offered a possible fix for $2,200, at my expense, Go figure. I traded it in for a gas Rav 4. My non- Toyota mechanic said he would have just drilled a hole in the exhaust pipe. Pictures of the ice are available if anyone wants to see .

Music works great, but audio coming from the video is 50/50 if it wants to adjust the volume. If it doesn't, it'll say "audio paused." If it works and you take a call, then go back to the video, it won't work anymore.

On my 3rd Prius (Scotty, plural is Priia) and currently driving the 3rd gen. Not the fanciest car but I was able to train the computer new and got 84mpg. I’ve had her 8 years now and only recently had to replace bulbs besides regular LOF. She may not be very exciting to look at but she is affordable, dependable, and pretty good response in traffic both accelerating and braking. Even brand new (I intend to drive her 300k+) she was $13k less than the new 2024. Lastly, my 2015 trim III with the solar roof, fan, and moon roof is the ONLY Toyota never recalled! Say what you will, I will take a VIN from Japan anytime over others. Blessed 2024 all!

😎 The generation 3 was the best Prius. In my opinion. The new one looks like a catfish from the front. The roof line lost 4 in, give us our headroom back!. And I thought the new CVT transmission actually had a first gear then it goes into CVT mode? As far as the dash all hybrids should have the The gauges way up in the center like gen 3 and you don't have to look through the steering wheel where the steering wheel gets in the way. I mean it really works,I really liked that. If you pushed power mode in the version 3 it was no slouch. It Was very Zippy. In regular mode. I even got 61 MPG on ours. If they want to improve the looks, the 2015 concept model front end which looked like a Pontiac was really a good looking model. To me, this one reminds me of a Porsche versus a Volkswagen beetle. It just looks squished down.😅

Now that is actually very interesting to hear about the new '23 Prius. I heard somewhere that Toyota was considering discontinuing the prius, because it was designed as the hybrid concept vehicle; and because literally all of their models have a hybrid transmission now, they felt the Prius was redundant. But it is good to still see the Prius ticking over the miles. Also it would be kind of neat to see a manual cvt transmission. I'm picturing a lever that you slide slowly forward, as you accelerate, and let off the gas.

I have a 2015 Ford Fusion Enrrgi plug in hybrid. 165,000 miles on it and still going strong. No issues. It does have a very similar drivetrain to Toyota hybrids, so maybe thats the reason. But the Fusion/Cmax hybrids and PHEV i think are pretty solid option and not "rolling piles of junk".😅 relatively inexpensive used as well. The Fusion is a much nicer ride than a Prius too as it's not so optimized for max MPG, but still gets 45 MPG city ( after EV range is used up)

The direct injectors are not for fuel efficiency, they are for max power. Most of the time it drives on normal injection for low emmisions. Also the whole point of the car is the electric cvt. It makes a really smooth driving experience without a complicated dual clutch system with a lot of parts that wear out. It also keeps the engine at the optimal rpm which a lot of people hate, but is actually much better. Not just for smooth driving but also for efficiency and wear. Straping a transmission with gears to this cars would be like bolting wooden wheel to it, because thats what cars had when you where young.

@@sunnydaze-ij2jf I have a hard time believing any car of that era *actually* achieved 50MPG. Even the EPA with revised formulas only estimates the most fuel efficient 91 CRX to have a 43MPG average, and a more typical 91 CRX model (still a 5 speed manual) is rated at 29MPG. At any rate, the CRX is significantly smaller, significantly lighter (over 1000 lbs lighter from what I can find - about 60% the total weight of what a Prius is), has no back seat, has next to no safety features, has next to no modern comfort amenities (the CRX HF doesn't even have A/C), has about 40% of the horsepower the Prius does, and the 0-60 time of that 91 CRX HF is estimated at 14.1 seconds.
