I know y'all have reviewed the Sienna before, but you really undersold the hybrid nature of the van in this review. I regularly got 40 mpg on it, and the ability to ride in EV mode is also a great saver for little trips within a small radius. The MPG is simply incredible for the size of this vehicle.

i thought anything over 10-15 mph automatically goes back to gas; it's something like if you're cruising in your neighbourhood or parking garage the EV only may work.

@@MrCarpediem6 not true. The ev mode works until 25mpg. I can post a video demonstration if you want to see how it works. After 25mph if your foot is might in the pedal and there is enough battery life the van will stay in ev mode. I regularly can accelerate from 0-35mph in ev mode and I take my foot off the pedal early for regen to charge the battery.

I got the 2023 Sienna XLE, and I was once someone who would never never buy a mini-van. I am now an awesome DAD, and I am thinking what took me so long to buy a mini-van. I love everything about. Now before bed, I just take the kids for drive to but them to sleep. I love the tech, convenience, and mpg

I got this vehicle and installed a 3” Journey lift kit plus Wildpeak all terrain tires. Looks great and can go *almost* anywhere I wanted to go. Went to Tahoe a week ago during the heavy snows and didn’t need to put in chains. I was able to negotiate the deeper snow even on inclines and declines. Love this car.

The biggest con with these is you can't get them. In my area the dealers quote a year wait time and used ones are selling for thousands and thousands above new MSRP. Kinda crazy to me to spend $7000 over original MSRP for a used two year old car or to pay original MSRP for a car with 50k miles. Even with the great fuel economy the value proposition just isn't there at those inflated prices which is a shame because I think its such a compelling car. That is unless you can wait for a year or more.

In Toronto Canada we have a 3 year wait for them also the highlander hybrid and rav 4 hybrid. It's just brutal. We have to order the highlander hybrid and then lease an interim car. It sucks

We’ve had our 2021 Sienna AWD platinum for a couple years now and it has been a great vehicle. My wife absolutely loves it, and when you have 3 kids, lots of trips to soccer practices, to the mall, school, etc., there is no substitute. The Tahoe moms in my neighborhood are constantly fighting fuel economy, lack of sliding doors and general unwieldiness. Downsides: in cold climates it takes a long time to actually blow hot air from the vents. Heated seats and steering wheel provide “Luke warmth” And not really heat. Real world mpg around town is about 31. Highway cruising is great, not too much NVH. Tech is crap, cameras are low resolution as is typical for Toyota. No wireless CarPlay. No USB c for CarPlay. Emotion factor: if people see you driving this they know you feel good about yourself and that you’re not trying to play in the suv rat race. That said, my fun cars are a 392 wrangler, manual Supra and f250 tremor 😂

We bought a 2021 Sienna XLE and do not regret it at all. We went from a Town & Country and the Sienna is better in every way. BTW we got it in Green and it is the only car I have ever been complemented on the color (several times)

Yes, my kids eat 2-3 packs of them, just not the costco size seaweed. Minivans are truly remarkable. I wish Odyssey comes in Hybrid and AWD as well so we can show and compare. Also not sure where we can get Sienna at MSRP in tri state NY area. Everything is marked up $5k or more.

Hi Micah, thank you for the great review. I have two questions. At 10:49 the mpg reading was only 26.8. Any guesses on why that's so low compared to the estimate of 35/36? And, of all the current minivans on the market which one do you like best? Specifically I'm wondering about the Pacifica hybrid vs. the Sienna.

Great question. The reason we don't use our experience to demonstrate real world fuel economy is because our use case throws off the numbers in a hugely negative way. Simply driving home involves a mountain climb in excess of 6,000 feet. Then shooting driving footage involves a lot of full-throttle acceleration. Quick gist, we burn a ton of fuel reviewing cars that most buyers won't.

from what i understand some minivan fit 4x8 foot sheets of plywood or drywall inside - with the sienna sounds like i will have to strap it to the roof - would prefer to have both options but if i can attach it to the roof not a deal breaker

If Toyota made the sienna in a cargo version with the 1500 W inverter they would sell 250,000 a year in the United States! Yes there would be a waiting list for this van, Wait there already is a waiting list for this van without a cargo version. Yes that means that it would be a amazing van in the cargo version. Yes I have already owned this van 2021 XSE with the inverter package . Yes if you are easy with it you can easily get 40 miles per gallon. #ToyotaPleaseMakeASiennaCargoVersion.

The second row of the sienna may be harder to move, but that sacrifice is worth it to have the most comfortable second row in a van and most other large vehicles.

It just reminds me how little soft touch matters in vehicles. It is so over stated many times how important this is in areas you hardly touch.

I agree they don’t really matter but in a 40k+ vehicle I’d expect leather/soft touch and soft armrests.

It is amazing how much reviewers care about things like soft touch dashboards. Personally I really only care about the areas I actually touch on a regular basis. I want comfortable armrests and don't want me knee smacking hard plastic. Beyond that I'm fine with everything being hard and durable plastic. I do think Toyota could do better with armrests. The armrest comfort is a real weakness in Toyotas I've owned. Honda, in my personal experience, does a better job of padding the areas you will come in contract with.

The headlights are bright. I have not had anyone flash their highbeams at me thinking I had my highbeams on (except when I did.) There is an adptive high beam control. I never use it, but it works when I have accidentally bumped it.

I just got one and when the lights are dimmed, people are always putting their brights on me. I have a platinum, so I'm not really sure if the headlights are different between models. I honestly don't think the headlights are adaptive.

That rear hitch really hangs down low. I'd expect that from an aftermarket affair, but feel like if it's a factory or even specific model dealer installed option that it should be a bit better integrated. I can see that crunching even some low profile parking stops or curbs.

The factory hitch is the smaller size 1.25” and is almost low-profile. I added an aftermarket 2” hitch (Kurt brand) and it’s reeeealy low. Stick with the 1.25” if you can get away with it for your usage needs.

I noticed quite a bit a few videos expressing extra focus on the number of cup holders in some of these vehicles, such as the Toyota sienna for year 2023, or the 2024 Toyota Grand highlander, etc. What I failed to see is why this is either attractive, or necessary. I do not want 13, 18, 100 cup holders. I don't consider that storage. I don't think this cup holders really matter. It's a beautiful looking vehicle anyway.

Just tried to order this Woodlander at one of the largest Toyota car dealership in my state. There's a waiting list of 100 people. The dealership said they will get "1" from Japan. So whoever's on the list first will get first dibs. Doesn't make sense to make people think they can order one and get it.

The prices on the Transit Connects are utterly insane. Even used they appear to hold their price. Which is nuts. It’s a plastic box with 4 wheels. I’d totally have one of the price reflected what you were purchasing.

I love minivans. Toyota can design hydrogen fuel cells but not a latch to remove the middle captain chairs :( I'll have to try seaweed snacks. :)

The issue I have heard is that the side airbags are integrated into the seats and unplugging that would cause issues in the safety systems. The airbags are in the seat bacause of how far the seats can slide. A regular curtain airbag would not be able to cover the entire area.

I love literally everything about this vehicle, and I would have ordered one instantly as soon as this new generation became available, but there was one massive deal breaker. The inability to remove or stow the second row is just not acceptable for my needs. I have talked to many others who are in the same situation. Crazy how one simple thing can alienate many buyers. I suspect Toyota will lose many sales because of this.

Try finding and buying a new one-they are very sought after and often with markups. Side curtain airbags for 2nd row and more padded 2nd row seats are why they are not removable. It’s not a truck, so this trade off adds up.

Same for us. We had a 2004 Sienna, and now a 2015 Odyssey. We have the 2nd row seats out all the time for various stuff; it's a dealbreaker for us too.

I agree regarding buying I-pads but when traveling this becomes a problem Every time you get out the car you have to leave them in the car to possibly get stolen or you have to haul them around with you. Because of this I'd have to opt for the $1700 built in.

We have a 2020 Honda Odyssey and we are considering to get a 2023 Toyota Sienna after renting one. The gas mileage was fantastic and we felt it was more spacious than the honda. We also like how it doesnt feel like a large vehicle and it has a tight turning radius. The downside though is the noise when you push the engine too hard because its a 4 cylinder w/ a CVT.

The video mentioned that the turning radius in the odyssey is tighter/better than the Sienna. I have yet though to drive the new Sienna myself

@@levimagnusson5880 that is just how I felt driving it, honestly I only drove it twice and it really feels light than the odyssey.

@@damilolaakanni they are almost the same, I mean they dont shift like a conventional automatic transmission but I must say it drives better than a normal CVT which has the rubber band effect.

Couldn't this trim have cladding around the wheel arches and bottom sides or something? I hear "Woodland", but I see an ordinary-looking trim Sienna.

The Sienna is the best looking MPV imo It is slow and plasticky inside but it is reliable and economic. There you go :-)

MPV to me is something akin to the MAzda MPV, not as big as a minivan but the same sort of utility structure (e.g., slide doors; big hatch, high seating etc) - much like what's available in Japan ?

Here's to you Mom's and Dad's you need to get past the psychological thing of it Being a Minivan!!! A Minivan is all about being practical. You get into a parking lot at Walmart the doors don't hit other cars doors they slide open. A Toyota is way2go especially when you can get all wheel drive for MN Winters.

If you want quality interiors, pay the bills. Toyota and Japanese manufacturers may have a slightly different sense of values from the rest of the world. I think that the luxurious interior can be satisfied if leather, interior covered with soft pads, real metal dials, and decorative parts are used, but the vehicle price will be high accordingly. When ordinary people buy it, it's a burden, right? Also, are starting acceleration and top speed important factors in your life? I doubt it. You can build any number of fast cars at any time! 0-400m, 0-100k is easy if you want to do it. If you always drive like that, what about your license? Get picked up or go to jail.
