FYI, I had '07, double cab that I bought new. About 3 years ago I started to read all frame issues so I called Toyota. They sent me to have the truck inspected at the dealer. Dealer claimed it was fine but wanted to take preventive measure to make sure it will not get any worse. I brought truck back to them, they sprayed frame and everything else with rubberized undercoating and said it was good to go, WRONG. Few weeks later while changing oil, I've noticed that undercoating is pealing off at rapid pace. They did not clean any rust from the frame, just sprayed undercoating on top of it so it looked good. All undercoating did is trapping salt/moisture even more. I traded the truck on another vehicle soon after.

So very happy for you. Bought an 07 FJ Cruiser, and I've had to get under there with air chisel, wire wheels, rust convertor, por15, and rust paint. Came out looking like I went through a war zone. One year later, rust is back. I'm frustrated, disappointed, and angry. I really like my rig, but this video really has me thinking. Having purchased it used, however, I think I'm out of luck.

sandy you are lucky to be alive. toyota has had this trouble since the 1980s they tried to hide it but in the 2000 it got so bad some wouldn't last a year. i have 1955 dodge. 1948 ford , 1976, 2001, 2003 chevy's and 1984, 1988 gmc's trucks never had a rust out frame . i will never own a toyota that's for sure. take care, be safe and stay well.

I had a 95' Tacoma with the same issue, but I didn't know about the recall until after it was too late. You are doing a great service by telling other owners about the problem. The scary thing is that other owner's are driving around with the same problem, and they don't know it. Well done.

So my 2008 Tacoma started making a strange rattle a few weeks ago. I started trying to track it down between trips to my farm... Today I did some research on the net for recalls and such. I came across your video and ONE VIDEO IS WORTH MORE THAN ALL THE REPORTS I FOUND; as are the comments. The "humourous" part is that I recognized Sandy, after subscribing to his excellent website a few weeks ago and was surprised to hear he has suffered with this in his past, as well. So thanks for the heads up and I am off to take a closer look at my frame...

Please name the rotten dealership

When we get these in, the frames don't much bother me - I'm used to fixing those. What bothers me is the rear tubs - they are a real pita to repair, parts are either crazy dear or unavailable, used tubs are all pish too (customers bring me used tubs to replace their rusted ones, the "replacements" are generally just as wrecked when you delve past the shiny paint. Pull the entire rear arch liner, every bit of it - if it's just starting to go bad up there, drench it in ATF - really spray it up in there. Let it soak in. If it's already crusty, well good luck. Then it gets time consuming.. Above the tanks of these (and Landcruisers) always rusts like mad - even the shiny ones that look mint will be rotted up there - as well as above the front left wheel.. always.

A neighbor gave me an 2003 Toyota Tundra because they stopped driving it for over a year, the cause was from how much rust was underneath and the frame having multiple holes the size of my hand…

Glad to hear that you got taken care of...so often, as Canadian consumers, we get treated like crap on recalls. It's insane that manufacturers can get away with denying a recall to Canadian owners that they are happily fulfilling in the U.S.

I sprayed mystery oil in side the orig holes in frame. They rot from inside out. Don't use rubber undercoating that holds the moisture in I

I have to take my '09 in to have the frame inspected. I'm worried they will just try to put a bandaid on the rot. Then again, the same dealer replaced the frame in my dads Tundra when it was 10 years old... Sorry to hear you had to deal with this, but glad things worked out.

Looked at a 2019 tacoma today, all the structural welds on the frame were rusted LOL what a joke of a manufacturer.

Toyota put a brand new frame on my 2006 TRD Sport 4WD Double Cab back in 2016 right at 100,000 miles. My service person showed me the bill, $11,000 to be billed to Dana Corporation. Still ended up having to replace all 4 shocks, upper control arms, cv axle's, and tie rod ends. Drives fantastic now. Fingers crossed that the engine holds up, should get another 100,000 miles out of it.

man im glad they dont salt the roads here in montana, we still get winter but no salt. most vehicles even from as far back as the 70s and older are usually still on the road in decent shape. we still have rust as anywhere does but not bad.

That’s correct “that thing is a solid ride “ I have my 09 Tacoma just got it last year definitely I am going to take it in to get checked

Tacomas from 2005 to 2007 have serious factory problems with there frames.
