On a C5 the air leaks come from the plastic tubing between the throttle body and the air filter. The mass air flow sensor is all the way out by the air filter and as a result all the plastic tubing leaks and all the connections. The solution is to get rid of the pinch clamp use silicone sealant and put hose clamps everywhere. As soon as you do that all the pinging stops. This is a classic problem to all the c5s but I can't speak for the C6. Likely there too
@Toys4Life
@Toys4Life 10 ай бұрын
I see your point on the C5. More connections and the bridge is hard plastic (less likely to seal). The C6 uses a shorter rubber connector between the Throttle body and the MAF - less likely to leak.

@Toys4Life 10 ай бұрын
For a bone stock C5 or C6 probably not. You can do all of the fine tuning on the street carefully. Once you start increasing the horsepower by more than just a little bit than absolutely, the dyno or the track. Dino is more efficient track is more fun by track I mean quarter mile track where you can tune from mile per hour. All that having been said, nothing beats a load-bearing Dino for tuning with some shake-down testing on the street.

Dyno should be used in conjuction with HP tuners on the fly to get the most optimal tune. You can directly see what lambda produces the most power for the engine/fuel and program that for open loop (WOT)

@Toys4Life thank you so professional dyno for major mods such as cam, heads, intake work? And us hptuners as needed? My goal for my c6 is to have a dual purpose street and track car, I was thinking HPtuners would be good as I can do fine tuning of the car before and after I go to the track. Does thinking sound right ?

@soybeanrice thank you, see my reply to Toys would like your input on that line of thinking. So far the only mod I've done is headers for which I took it to a performance shop for dyno and tune.
@soybeanrice
@soybeanrice 10 ай бұрын
@@y0ungtchalla420 you should be running the same tune for both uses unless you are changing fuel type. A tune is to create the most power for open loop, typically by running a little more rich. Closed loop just goes to stoich (0 lambda). You cant do any of this without a wideband. You may need to adjust idle rpm depending on how aggressive your cam is. You may be able to adjust your rpm limit depending on the valvetrain components that you put in (stronger springs). I'm pretty sure disabling the 1-4 shift (CAGS) is a checkbox in hptuners. Will verify in a couple weeks. Your best bet is to get a tune as best as you can and then go to a dyno to finalize your tune.

Would changing my afr for 10% ethenol affect my dyno tune and do I need to adjust amy other tables or will all the other tables fall in place after I correct the afr? Please make some more tuning videos. I love your content, very informative.
@Toys4Life
@Toys4Life 10 ай бұрын
If they dyno tuned it and used the correct stoich for the fuel that was in your tank - you can change the stoich if you go to a different ethanol content fuel and that should be it. Unless you go to something like E85. You should change timing, injectors, fuel pump and perhaps some other items.

In my opinion there is no reason you can't use long-term field trims for part throttle tuning. After all that's the way your car runs each and every time you run drive it. A quality wide band is obviously the only way to do open loop tuning. If I'm missing something, be specific and let me know please. Enjoy that C6!

A unrelated question, I have a C6Z06 and did a stage 3 cam and heads correction. With that change I was told to use a 160 thermostat, the fans are set to come on at 220 so what's the purpose of a 160 thermostat? So my questions is should I change the fan settings or change the thermostat back or meet in the middle with 180 thermostats. My thinking is that once that thermostat opens it just runs wide open and there is no change to exchange the heat and the temperature runs away. I have always had the thinking that you need to allow the coolant cool then to exchange it via the thermostat regulating and given time to cool the fluid. I would like to hear what the community thinks or has experienced along with your input.

On the 96 C4, you need to drive approximately 60-70 miles before the long term and short term fuel trims line up after a tune. Its fun however at the same time, its a pain because even if you change one small or large parameter in whatever category your tuning, you still need to drive 60-70 miles to see or feel any changes made. I would assume the C5 and C6 will be the same. Because of that, It took me 3 solid months to street tune my 96 but its well worth it because along with my mods, my car is extremely fast compared to stock. Those timing retard tables will kill your horsepower. They are overdone by GM. Cut those numbers down a little bit as well as leaning out wot and small timing bumps and your car will be faster than it is now.

I think they call it Block Learn Factor or something like that on the OBD 1 GM stuff. It's been a while (:-). Gen 3 and 4 GM PCM's adjust much much faster with the STFT and LFTS's. Yes, that knock is bringing down the power - that is what I am going to remedy in as we work through the process with this car (:-).

I know you posted this 3 months ago but im curious to know where you found the stoich ratio for the octane rating and ethanol. I picked up my 06 corvette about 3 months ago and my wife got me a mpvi3 for Christmas so im looking to start optimizing the tune for my car but i just dont quite understand how you got to 14.19 based on your ethanol percent. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Try googling ethanol fuel storage calculator. Should be able to find a couple of calculators you can bookmark or you plug in different ethanol contents and it spits out the stoichiometric ratio and their octane rating. I have one that I downloaded a spreadsheet for several years ago, but I can't remember exactly where I got it.

Delete the rear bank 02 sensors. After I replaced the exhaust manifold now my car is burning lean. New plugs installed 35kms ago and now showing white tips. Getting codes P0140 and P0160. I had a guy take the rear 02 sensor out of the program As a delete but doesn’t appear that it was done now that I am seeing these codes. I’m almost positive that’s why my car is running lean now.
