My XE200 should arrive today to replace my ASUS XT8. I plan on using the 10Gbps port as the wired backhaul I guess because I have a cable going from downstairs to upstairs. I’m excited to see how this thing performs.

@@landpet So, I installed it and I’m returning it. I don’t have any 6E devices yet but I get better speeds from my XT8 on Wi-Fi 6 devices. After I got it all setup and tested it out, I had a slightly slower system with fewer options. At this point I would either stick with the XT8 or upgrade to the ET12 for the additional multi gig ports and features to future proof my home a bit. Or wait for the Wi-Fi 7 stuff to drop. The units themselves are also large and awkward.

@@imperialdoggo5826 .. You do realize that most of these Wi-Fi mesh units you can't even use Wi-Fi 6 on them because they use Wi-Fi 6 for their Mesh backbone!!?? The point of the newer TP-Links with Wi-Fi 7 is because they have at least 2x 2.5 GbE one for WAN (ISP) and one for your LAN (local network).

So, after reviewing this, does it change your overall “best” option when cost is and isn’t in the equation? Previously I think you chose the quad band Orbi as best if price isn’t considered, but the ASUS ET12 if price is considered. This Tplink seems to be a sweet spot?
@landpet
@landpet Жыл бұрын
This is very good, so is the ASUS ET12. I'll do a comparison between the two in a future video. Short summary is that the ASUS provides better range, 2 "fast" 2.5Gb ports and is more customizable. I think this one has better wireless backhaul speeds and 1 really fast 10Gbps port and costs less. My recommendation would be, if your internet speeds are gigabit or less, this is a better buy. If your internet speeds are between gigabit and 2.5Gbps, I would go with the ET12 if you're going to use wired backhaul. If your internet speeds are faster than 2.5Gbps, then this is a better choice cause it has the fast 10Gbps port. Unless you really want to drop some money and get the Orbi RBKE963.

@@landpet Thanks for the overview! I’m using FiOS at slightly under 1Gbps. While I value the features available in the ASUS, my desire at this point is performance and stability. I am using the ASUS XT8 right now and it’s great, but it has odd issues from time to time and just seems a little more buggy than it should be. I love having the features but if I’m being honest, I don’t really use them. I worry that the ET12 might suffer from the same odd bugs occasionally.

I don't know why they put only 1 10gbps port on these. This renders them useless if you want the full multigig speeds throughout your house using wired backhaul. There should be at least two multigig ports. My XE75 Pro also suffers from this. Only one 2.5gbps port.

Thanks! That's a tough choice, if you're internet speeds are gigabit or less, I probably would go with the Deco XE200 since they cost less than the ET12. ET12 has more range and two fast ports where the XE200 has one very fast port. If you need a ton of options, ET12 is the way to go but the Deco is a simplified machine with great results.

I recently purchased the TP-Link XE200, I must say i am impressed. !!! My house is now saturated with strong wifi ( all 3 levels) anywhere from 500 mbps at the at the farthest point to 750-900 mbps in the same room to the router NOTE and only using wireless backhaul. Additionally my mailbox is about 250 ft away and I am getting about 40 mbps. The complete set up for the router and satellite took 5 minutes. I used your advise and used the old network names and all my devices connected seamlessly. Thanks for the advise.

With so many isp rolling out gig plus and multi gig its really too bad they didn't put two 2.5g ports on these. One for wan and 1 to run to a eithernet switch for wired devices (or wired backhaul). Not enough future proofing imo.

I agree. I would've preferred that to 1 10Gb port.
@iambenmitchell

You could use a 10Gbit managed switch and have your WAN and LAN on VLANs through the 10G port. You'd cap out at 5Gbps WAN speed though (5Gbit through lan + 5Gbit WAN) minus any overhead. However, more realistically you'd have 1.5Gbit WAN and 8.5Gbit left over for LAN. Multi gig internet connections are a pointless gimmick in 99.9% of applications as most download servers only support 1Gbit these days. The only scenario where it makes sense if if you're in a house with more than 200 people... which is no longer a house so much as a hotel or other business.

In a 1800sqft home, is it better to use a single node or two? I know they all cover huge square footage per node but can it have any negative effect using two? I currently use 2 and it seems fine. I have 1 downstairs and 1 upstairs. I have an old home with thick walls.

Short sighted to not have at least one of the units with dual 10 Gbit ports. Or even a 2.5.
@landpet

Yeah, unfortunately, there are others that have the same limitations like the Linksys Atlas MAX 6E. Only the Orbi RBKE963 and ASUS ET12 have dual "fast" ports. For my internet speeds, this would be fine since I'm limited to gigabit but anything faster, I would want 2 fast ports.

@@landpet I suppose, they'll just churn out another model, with additional, faster ports. When they figure enough users have faster than Gigabit internet. They don't look after their customers though! Look what they did with their M9 models. They promised to enable the, included, USB port with a firmware update. Two years later and Users are still pleading for it on their forums, with no response from TP-Link.

You can use 2 nodes and have the same SSID however only one of them would connect to your modem directly. The other would have to connect to the deco or a switch. I’ve done videos on the setup guide. If you keep your isp router, you would need to run the deco in access point mode however I would recommend you disable or remove your isp router and have this connect directly to the modem and use this with the other deco as the mesh

Can you VLAN on the 10G port such that the incoming internet connection and the LAN are sharing the same port? In theory, if the Deco XE200 allowed VLAN in that manner, we could pass 5G speeds over the ethernet backhaul, but you would need a 3+ port 10G (or 5G, 2.5G, for lesser benefit) L2/3 switch negotiating the packets between the modem and two XE200’s

Thanks, well this mesh system creates your LAN. So I'm not quite sure I understand the question, this mesh is supposed to connect to your modem via ethernet which it then creates your LAN. I did a video on how to connect Deco XE75 in pretty much all the possible ways, the same logic applies to this mesh system: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7x7hbR11NHPmHk.html

@landpet
@landpet Жыл бұрын
No problem! Good question, let me change the response a bit. It's not that wifi 6E doesn't support that, it's that certain mesh/routers don't support that, it has nothing to do with the wifi standard. So if you got an ASUS ET12 Pro, you can separate all the bands and call them a different name (SSID) and the ET12 Pro is also a mesh wifi 6e system. I'm not running the deco at the moment but from what I remember, you can't separate the 2.4 from the 5GHz however you can with the 6GHz by calling it a different name. So you will have 2 SSID's with this one instead of 3. I would check out the ASUS ET12 Pro if that's what you're looking for, there are other models from other brands that support this feature as well.

Thanks for watching and sharing! I have to look at the numbers again for the ET12 but there are advantages to both. Et12 has the better range and two fast ports so it's great for internet speeds over gigabit. This one I think has better wireless backhaul speeds and a crazy fast port but only one of those. I'll make a video comparing the two in the future. Simple way: if you have internet speeds over gigabit or need range or need tons of options, Asus is the way to go. X60 doesn’t have 6GHz to use. It would communicate via the 5GHz and 2.4GHz, just not sure how the XE200 would handle that on the dedicated backhaul. Thanks appreciate the feedback. Here's my reasoning: My older videos used to be just internet speed tests. Now I do internet speed tests and local speed tests. Many people have asked for local speed tests since different people have different internet speeds. So if I cap the router to my Internet connection speeds, it doesn't show how fast it can go for someone with faster internet. I include local speed tests regardless if I buy the router or receive it for review.
